Then she froze.

The familiar browser page made her scalp tingle, and her mind went blank for a moment.

It actually could connect to the internet!Full novel: Back to the ’80s with a Farmstead: From Hated Stepmom to Family Favorite — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

She took several quick breaths, then her hands almost trembling as she began typing on the keyboard.

Moments later, she pressed the search button with shaking fingers.

But the screen that appeared next made her pause again.

She had searched for Lucky Farmhouse.

That was the full name of her farmhouse resort. She had chosen the name back then because she felt that obtaining the space had been a stroke of luck.

However, the search results returned a large pile of related information and many pictures—but they all looked unfamiliar and somewhat chaotic.

Suddenly, a piece of information caught her eye.

She froze again.

Thinking of something, her hand trembled as she quickly switched back to the desktop and looked toward the bottom right corner of the screen.

Then she completely went still.

2023/10/20.

How could this be…

Unwilling to believe it, she checked the desktop clock and the timestamps on the news repeatedly.

They were all correct.

Why was this happening? The time was wrong.

The car accident should have happened in 2005.

How had it suddenly become 2023?

She couldn’t help tugging at her hair.

After staring blankly for a moment, she switched back to the browser and searched for Qin Zhiyi’s name.

This time, the very first result was his profile.

The first thing she noticed was his title.

Qin Zhiyi, still wearing a military uniform in the picture, looked much older, his expression still stern.

Then she read his introduction.

Xu Sangluo’s fingers curled slightly before she finally leaned back into the chair as if drained of strength, letting out a helpless, bitter smile.

Time had actually moved forward to more than ten years after her death.

How could this happen?

Was it because she had been reborn?

She remained silent for a while.

Her fingers hovered over the keyboard for several seconds before she slowly typed several keywords into the search box:

Lucky Farmhouse Xu Sangluo Car Accident

Then she pressed her lips together and hit the search button.

This time, the results were far more precise.

The first link was a news report from Huashi Television.

Judging from the date, it was indeed news from 2005.

After reading several articles in succession, her emotions suddenly became complicated.

Some of the reports simply described her and the farmhouse in a straightforward manner.

Others passionately recounted the story of her life.

Some even pieced together messy accounts of her grudges and relationships.

From these articles, she roughly pieced together what had happened after her death.

After her car accident, the state launched an investigation.

Because she had died in an accident overseas—and was connected to many national projects—the authorities initially suspected foreign forces were involved.

In order to pressure those forces into cooperating with the investigation, the government publicly revealed the real work behind her and the farmhouse.

At the time, many medicines on the market that treated various illnesses were related to materials she had provided.

So even though she had only supplied materials and hadn’t participated directly in the research, under the government’s publicity she had become an extremely influential scientist.

Many citizens angrily demanded an investigation into the cause of her death online.

To clear themselves of suspicion, foreign powers had no choice but to cooperate with the investigation.

In the end, the trail led to Liu Xiuhe and Xie Huaishu.

Now the foreign side had something to say, loudly demanding that China give an explanation.

At the same time, researchers discovered that the organisms in the farmhouse had lost the special active substances they once had and had become no different from ordinary organisms.

It seemed that all those miraculous properties had disappeared along with Xu Sangluo’s death.

The authorities were almost furious with anger.

Under such circumstances, it was easy to imagine what kind of ending the culprits would face.

Not only the mother and daughter, but also the Xie family, the Zhao family, and even Liu Xiuhe’s relatives were almost all implicated.

Some of them had gone to prison, others had fallen into ruin.

It had to be said that after seeing the fates of those people, she felt a small sense of satisfaction.

She searched several more names in succession and found plenty of follow-up information.

The inheritance rights to the countryside guesthouse eventually went to her youngest maternal uncle overseas, and it was later bought by Qin Zhiyi.

In the end, it was turned into a manor.

Qin Zhiyi retired in 2023 at the age of sixty-five and moved directly into the manor, which even sparked another round of media reports.

Xu Sangluo felt complicated emotions while reading this.

Mother Qin had already passed away, yet he was still alone.

She searched for information about other people.

Xie Huaishu and Liu Xiuhe had directly hired someone to commit murder, with Xie Feng acting as an accomplice.

All three were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Xu Sangluo was quite satisfied with that verdict—she even felt like praising the judge.

Death would have been a release.

Living on was the real torture.

Xu Sangluo stayed in the office inside the space until she noticed activity outside. Only then did she reluctantly compose herself and leave the space.

When she opened the door, she saw Qin Zhifeng standing outside with an excited expression.

“What is it?”

“Sister Sangluo, I made two new designs myself. Do you think these could sell?”

He opened his palm as if presenting a treasure, looking at her with eager anticipation.

That bright and energetic smile instantly drove away the last trace of gloom lingering in Xu Sangluo’s heart.

She chuckled and reached out to examine them.

Qin Zhifeng had made a hair clip and a scrunchie.

On the hair clip was something about the size of a thumb, resembling a small cloth doll—maybe a cat or a dog.

Although a little rough, it was quite interesting.

The scrunchie was the most basic kind, but it had a small standing rabbit cloth doll sewn onto it, about two thumbs in size.

It was somewhat similar to the plush scrunchies from later years, though the craftsmanship was rather simple.

Both were made from scraps of cloth.

“The idea is good. If you can make them more delicate, girls would probably like them. But making something like this must take a lot of time, right?” she said tactfully.

The brightness in Qin Zhifeng’s eyes dimmed immediately. He nodded dejectedly.

“Yes.”

Xu Sangluo was amused by his puppy-like disappointment and couldn’t help rubbing his head.

“The creativity is great. It’s just that we lack time and tools right now. When we earn more money later and buy a sewing machine, we’ll be able to make them. They’ll definitely sell well then.”

“Really?” Qin Zhifeng’s eyes lit up again.

“Of course. When have I ever lied to you?”

Qin Zhifeng immediately grinned foolishly.

“No.”

“Well, there you go.”

Encouraged, Qin Zhifeng became excited again. Like a happy puppy set loose, he ran back to the main house noisily.

Xu Sangluo watched his back and shook her head with a smile before returning to her room.

After Qin Zhifeng’s little interruption, her mood had improved quite a bit.

So she stopped thinking about the past, took out the items she had finished from her space, and continued her handicraft work.

When she finished, she returned to the space and used the computer to look up how to make different styles of handmade crafts.

She actually found quite a few new designs.

One of them caught her eye—knitted wool items.

There were many kinds of knitted products, though the different stitching methods were somewhat complicated.

Since winter would arrive soon, she wondered if they could make some warm yet attractive knitted goods.

Things like gloves, scarves, hats, and sweaters.

Looking at the dazzling variety of knitted items in the pictures, she couldn’t help smiling.

In the evening, Qin Zhiyu ran home as soon as school ended.

Qin Zhishu had been thinking about it all day and, for once, didn’t even do his homework, returning early as well.

When he learned about today’s earnings, he was so shocked that he couldn’t recover for quite some time.

As usual, Qin Zhiyi didn’t arrive home until six-thirty.
