Baili Xia had no idea who the old man was.
Even though she was curious, what mattered the most to her at the moment was the injury of Night Shadow.
The blade was originally intended for her.
If not for saving her, he wouldn’t have been injured.
“You’re still bleeding.” Regardless of what Night Shadow said, she attempted to rearrange the shirt she was wearing, in order to tend to his wound immediately.
However, two buttons were missing.
The shirt could not be closed properly.
If a breeze blew, her stomach would be exposed.
Having noticed her awkwardness, Night Shadow caught a glimpse of her distress.
An almost imperceptible smile appeared in his eyes.
Suddenly bending over, he grabbed the hem of her shirt, and before she could refuse, tied a knot for her.
Although the knot was not aesthetically pleasing, it was functional.
The shirt was sufficiently long for her.
With the knot tied, it reached her waist.
At least, it wouldn’t be blown open by the wind anymore.
Feeling slightly thankful for his consideration, Baili Xia quickly picked up the upper garment that had been torn off by the rogues, once her clothes were fixed.
Her legs were aching and numb, almost causing her to fall.
Just by looking at Night Shadow’s wound, she instantly pressed the torn piece of cloth onto the muscular top of his wound.
As expected, the bleeding ebbed.
“We can’t delay too long.
We need to get you to the hospital as soon as possible.” Looking at him, she spoke anxiously.
Night Shadow really didn’t care.
His past training had made him long accustomed to such minor wounds.
However, being suddenly cared for by this young girl made him feel complex emotions, a kind of ineffable feeling lingering within his heart.
Nevertheless, he didn’t forget where his duty lay.
“Miss Baili, the old man wants to meet you.
Would you accompany me?
I assure you that I’m not a bad guy.” He reiterated.
Baili Xia nodded, hoping to quickly meet the old man he spoke of and swiftly get him to the hospital to treat his wounds.
With him having been kind to her, watching him bleed was heartbreaking.
“I’ll come with you.” With only one step taken, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her thigh.
Just after that one step, her legs buckled and she was about to fall face-first.
“Miss Baili, you seem a little unsteady.
I apologize.” He spoke sincerely.
There wasn’t an inkling of exploitative intention in his words.
“Your wound…” The only thing that concerned Baili Xia wasn’t about any advantage being taken but rather, since he was injured and was still bleeding, how could he carry her?
Nevertheless, Night Shadow simply shook his head at her, indicating that he was fine.
After lifting her, he strode towards the alley exit.
Baili Xia didn’t utter another word, leaning against Night Shadow’s chest, feeling increasingly melancholic.
Why could a stranger, whom she had never met before, be so considerate and kind to her?
Yet, her uncle, whom she had lived with for over a decade – even though not by blood, but they shared familial ties – could ruthlessly betray her?
Leaning feebly against his chest, she was moved to the verge of tears.
Experiencing a series of wounds, unexpectedly meeting someone this good to her was both heartbreaking and touching.
Apart from her mother, he was the only one who had ever been willing to protect her with his body throughout these years.
She committed the name ‘Night Shadow’ to memory.
In all her life, she would find some way to repay his kindness for rescuing her today.
No matter who he wanted her to meet, whether they were good or bad people, at least, his kindness at this moment was genuine.
