By the time Ella Lacey returned to the Lindsey Family residence, it was already dark.

Sally Jefferson was watching TV in the living room.

Upon seeing Ella return unhurt, she raised her eyebrows and asked, “Ella, how did you get back? I thought if you didn’t catch the flight and had to take the bus from the suburbs, you wouldn’t make it home until after ten. But it’s only seven now.”Full novel: Becoming the Apple of Mr.Gong’s Eye — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Sally felt rather smug.

She had ridden on Arthur Lindsey’s private plane, but Ella had not.

It was clear that Arthur cared more about her, or rather, he liked her more!

Now was her time to gloat.

“A kind old man gave me a ride home,” Ella flopped onto the couch, feeling a little tired.

“You don’t know him?” Sally was surprised.

Did Ella have such good luck?

“Mm-hmm.”

“Weren’t you afraid he might be a bad guy!” Sally exclaimed in surprised.

On the surface, she appeared concerned for her, but inwardly she was wishing that the news about female passengers being raped by taxi drivers, often reported on TV, could happen to Ella.

“You know, the old man didn’t look like a bad guy at all.” Ella recounted how soon after she walked out of the college main gate, the uncle showed up at the intersection.

“Plus, the old man had disinfectant and band-aids in the car, which helped stop the bleeding on my palm.”

Ella was grateful to him.

Without the man’s help, she might, as Sally predicted, only make it home late at night.

Sally took Ella’s right hand and saw a white patch on the palm.

It appeared Ella wasn’t lying.

“The old man didn’t ask for money?” Sally was still doubtful.

To her, Ella was not attractive, nor was she charming.

Why would a stranger offer to help her?

“Nope,” Ella shook her head.

“I invited him to have dinner with me, but he declined.”

“Well, as long as you’re back safe and sound, that’s what matters. Who knows, you might bump into him again.”

Sally lost interest in the strange old man.

Instead, she grabbed Ella’s hand and began to brag, “Ella, you wouldn’t believe how grand and luxurious the private plane was! The cabin was like a movable mansion, all glistening in a texture of gold. The space was divided into a working area, a rest area, a bedroom, and a bathroom. The resting area had a widescreen TV, beige leather seats, sofa, and carpet. There was all sorts of entertainment and delicious food. I even had lots of imported fruits from Europe on the plane! It’s every bit as impressive as the mysterious castle you visited!”

What she didn’t mention was that Arthur had been in the work area the whole time and ignored her entirely.

The flight attendants were the only ones attending to her.

But she was still very proud.

At least now she was on par with Ella.

Although she hadn’t been to the mysterious castle, Ella had never been on a private plane. This chapter was taken from g.com without permission.

“Sounds like it’s as amazing as the castle,” Ella said, half daydreaming and half begging, “Sally, you must have taken pictures, let me see!”

“Just don’t tell Arthur, I took them secretly.”

Sally smugly pulled out her phone which held several sneakily shot photos of the inside of the private plane.

Although the cabin crew repeatedly told her not to take pictures or reveal the interior design of the plane, she agreed verbally while secretly taking photos to show off later.

Every picture showed the unique design and privileged quality of the cabin.

Among them was a back view photo of Arthur in his work area.

He looked broad and stern.

For some reason, Ella felt a pang of sadness when she saw him.

Only heaven knew that her tears of grievance hadn’t dried when she left the college gate.

If she hadn’t met that old man, she probably would have returned home with red eyes…

Meanwhile, Arthur was sitting upright in the study room on the second floor, working on the latest Apple computer.

He had just received an email: Mr. Lindsey, as per your instructions, I’ve safely delivered Miss Lacey home.

I have also purchased and used the disinfectant and band-aids as you instructed.

Mission accomplished successfully.

Arthur’s lips, tinted a wine red, curved up slightly.

Adhering to his habitual endorsement of his subordinates’ work, he typed two words in reply:

Good job.
