In the night, Louis Jefferson drove his white BMW across the neon interchange bridge in the city center of Yunhai, amidst the bustling traffic.
“Ella, what’s wrong? Are you unhappy?” Louis, who was driving, glanced at Ella Lacey, who was sitting in the passenger seat, every now and then, looking concerned.
It was all because of that damn Arthur Lindsey.
Ella told herself not to think about him, but his image was all she could think about.
Thinking of him made her feel terrible.
“Brother, Ella probably just needs some sleep.” Sally Jefferson saw that she was silent, kindly stepping in and changing the subject.
“Did you fly back from W Country today?
Has everything there been taken care of?”
“Yes, everything’s been sorted.
I landed an hour ago.”
While talking, Louis glanced at Ella again, his intuition telling him she was still unhappy.
In a gentle voice, he said, “Ella, I ran into Uncle Chuan and Aunt Xue in W Country.
They miss you a lot and even asked me to bring back some gifts for you.”
“Really?” Ella’s interest perked up, and she suddenly seemed more lively.
Her eyes shone brightly, “How are daddy and mummy doing over there? I miss them too.”
They had only called once from W Country, across the vast ocean.
“With Abigail there, you have nothing to worry about. They’re living comfortably, and the air there is much better than here – it’s a great place to live,” Louis reassured.
She had moved to W Country with her husband years ago and had her own wealth management group and sea-view villa in the affluent area.
After Louis finished speaking, he took out a gift box from below his seat and handed it to Ella, “I’m not lying, there really is a gift, have a look.”
Ella received it and opened the colorful packaging box.
Inside was a red password box, with a sticky note on the side: “The password is the initials of your catchphrase.”
Catchphrase?
Ella’s heart fluttered, and she input the letters ‘PDGDD’.
With a crisp ‘click’, the password box opened.
As expected, it was the initials of the phrase “Crush Arthur” – her catchphrase!
It seemed that this truly was a gift from them.
Ella was extremely excited.
However, the moment she saw the gift, she hurriedly locked the password box again, her cheeks flushed like ripe apples.
“Ella, what’s the gift?” Sally Jefferson, who was sitting in the back seat, asked curiously.
“It’s…a polar bear.”
Sally was clearly not happy. The source of this chapter is g.com.
She didn’t believe that a polar bear was brought back from W Country, as they were common in the mall.
If she weren’t helping Louis get closer to Ella by allowing her to sit in the front, would Ella still have been able to keep secrets from her in the back seat?
“Brother, didn’t Uncle Chuan and Aunt Xue send a gift for me too?” Sally asked, not willing to be left out.
“Yes, of course.” Like a magician, Louis pulled out another gift box and handed it to Sally.
Sally cast a sideways glance at Ella in front, her expression saying ‘Hmph, if you got one, so did I.
We’re equal.’
“Ah, it’s really a little polar bear, a silver-furred polar bear from W Country.” Sally was happy yet disappointed when she saw the gift.
She was pleased because Ella must have a polar bear too, but disappointed because what’s so great about a polar bear?
It’s just a plush toy.
Louis pulled over slowly in front of the Jeffersons’ house, looking at Ella who was holding tight to the gift box, her cheeks flushed, as if she was keeping something to herself.
He guessed her gift must not be a polar bear.
And Sally’s polar bear was actually bought at the airport in W Country.
Uncle Chuan and Aunt Xue hadn’t sent her any gifts at all.
