In a certain consultation room at Renhe Hospital in Shangjing.

“What did you say? You can snap rebar with your bare hands? And you can directly stop a moving truck?”

The doctor on duty listened to the description from the man in front of him, a hint of seriousness appearing in his eyes. Just as the man thought he was about to hear a detailed answer from this authoritative doctor, the physician finally spoke.Full novel: Before the apocalypse, I recruited the big shots and handed them over to the state — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“You shouldn’t have come to surgery; you should have made an appointment with psychiatry.”

The suggestion was delivered with total sincerity; it didn’t look like he was joking.

“…”

Yet another person who thought he was crazy.

The light in Ji Lin’s eyes began to fade. He slowly stood up, yet even then, he didn’t lose his manners. “Alright,” he said softly before leaving the consultation room.

In truth, Ji Lin really wanted to say that he could prove it to him, but it seemed the person in front of him wasn’t particularly interested. Because the doctor was convinced he had a mental problem, no matter how much he said, it would be to no avail. It was better to just leave.

Ji Lin had discovered the changes in his body three days ago.

As a normal adult male, his strength wasn’t exactly weak to begin with, so he hadn’t initially taken the fact that his strength seemed to be increasing to heart. He simply thought it was an illusion. It wasn’t until he accidentally twisted his bedroom door handle into a pretzel with a single tug that he finally realized something was wrong. No matter how much strength he had, it shouldn’t be that much. That handle was a solid metal pipe; the fact that he had twisted it so easily was something that would have been absolutely impossible before.

Fearing he was turning into a monster, he began looking for other things to test the limits of his strength. He found a discarded steel pipe roughly the thickness of his forearm and wanted to see if he could snap it. He succeeded. Not only did he succeed, but the pipe deformed immediately even when he wasn’t using much force. When he exerted his full effort, the steel pipe was snapped in two by his bare hands…

To put it simply, his strength had become superhuman.

Ji Lin was afraid of becoming a monster. After all, one could always see movies about mutations and aberrations on the internet; he was terrified that he would turn into a mindless beast. It was for this very reason that Ji Lin had come to the hospital. He wanted to see if there was something wrong with his body.

As for the incident of stopping a car with his bare hands that he told the doctor… it wasn’t a lie; it was the truth.

On his way to the hospital, he had been so preoccupied that he was almost hit by a car. Seeing that he might be crushed into a pulp in the next second, Ji Lin had reached out and pushed against the hood the moment the car was about to hit him, hoping to stop it. Then, the terrifying thing happened. The car stopped. He had forced it to a halt with one hand.

The driver had looked at him as if he had seen a ghost, muttering, “I clearly didn’t have time to hit the brakes…”

The driver only suspected that something was wrong with his car; he didn’t suspect that something was wrong with the man in front of him. But the result now was that Ji Lin could only return empty-handed because no one believed him.

Walking along the small path outside the hospital, Ji Lin was somewhat dejected, completely failing to notice that someone was approaching him.

“That’s him, right?”

Pulling up the photo they had just taken, Li Sang looked down at her phone and then up at the man walking dejectedly down the road not far away. She directed the question to Jiang Tai’an beside her. After all, Jiang Tai’an had extraordinary vision. Even from this distance, he could see well enough to be nearly certain.

“It’s him.”

Once this was confirmed, Jiang Tai’an shot a look at Qi Yan. It looked like he intended to fall back on his “old trade.”

Wait, old trade?

Realizing what was happening, Li Sang suddenly reached out and grabbed Qi Yan’s arm, stopping him in his tracks. “What are you trying to do?”

Even as she asked, Li Sang already had the answer in her heart. Nevertheless, she waited for Jiang Tai’an’s response. She wanted to hear him say it with his own ears.

She soon did.

“Special circumstances require special measures.” As he spoke, he tilted his chin again, signaling for Qi Yan to continue forward. He was incredibly stubborn.

Li Sang stared at him and reminded, “This is an ability user. Qi Yan is no match for him.”

This was the truth. But Jiang Tai’an didn’t believe it.

Thus, Li Sang watched helplessly as Qi Yan walked up to Ji Lin’s side and suddenly tapped him on the shoulder, only to be instantly slammed into the ground. There wasn’t a moment’s hesitation in the motion; it was seamless and incredibly swift. From this alone, it was clear who had the upper hand between Qi Yan and Ji Lin.

A one-shot takedown—what was the point of fighting?

Li Sang also noticed that the moment Qi Yan hit the ground, his hand instinctively moved toward his waist, as if he were about to pull something out. But he quickly gave up on the idea because he realized he was in public. Pulling a gun in this situation would absolutely cause panic and draw unwanted attention. That was not what they wanted. More importantly, his life wasn’t in danger. The person in front of him had only taken him down and done nothing else.

Moreover, seeing that Qi Yan meant no harm, Ji Lin immediately reached out to pull him up.

“I-I’m sorry…” he said, his voice full of apology. It had been his instinctive reaction, and making the other person fall on the ground like that was too much. “A-Are you hurt?”

The young man’s tone was very soft and laden with guilt. It was obvious that he truly felt deeply sorry for the Qi Yan in front of him.

Although they could understand part of Ji Lin’s personality from the files they had obtained, after seeing him in person, Jiang Tai’an still couldn’t connect this weak-looking young man with the “one-man army killing machine” Li Sang had described. Other than both being male, what did these two images have in common?

Consequently, Jiang Tai’an couldn’t help but ask Li Sang for confirmation: “Are you sure… he can take on a thousand men alone?”

How could he possibly believe that?

Li Sang knew it sounded ridiculous, but that was how the author had set it up—what could she do? It was probably meant to create a “sense of contrast,” right? A frail-looking boy who looked like a zombie could crush him with one hand, but who could actually wipe out a zombie army single-handedly—isn’t that enough of a contrast for you?

So, meeting Jiang Tai’an’s skeptical gaze, Li Sang nodded with certainty. “Of course. I never lie.”

As they spoke, Jiang Tai’an’s group walked up to Ji Lin. While Jiang Tai’an was still contemplating how to initiate the conversation, Li Sang went straight for the “ultimate move.”

She stared at Ji Lin. Although her voice was lowered, it was unmistakably certain. “You aren’t sick.”

Ji Lin, who was still thinking about how to make amends, felt his pupils contract violently at those words!
