The abandoned warehouse stood on the edge of the old industrial district.
Broken windows rattled in the evening wind.
Rusted metal doors creaked with every gust.
The entire place looked forgotten.
Perfect for someone who didn’t want to be found.
The taxi stopped several meters away.
Lily paid the driver and stepped out.
Her heart pounded so loudly she could hear it.
She looked around.
There was no sign of Eleanor.
Only silence.
Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the heavy warehouse door.
It groaned loudly.
“D…Damian must never know I’m here,” she whispered to herself.
She walked inside.
The smell of dust and old machinery filled the air.
The warehouse was dimly lit by a few hanging bulbs.
“Lily.”
The familiar voice echoed through the darkness.
Victoria Harrington stepped forward from the shadows.
She wore black trousers, a leather jacket, and gloves.
Her once elegant appearance had been replaced by something colder.
Something desperate.
“You came.”
Lily looked around anxiously.
“Where’s Eleanor?”
Victoria smiled.
“She’s safe.”
Lily frowned.
“You lied?”
“I needed you to come.”
Anger flashed across Lily’s face.
“You used a sick old woman to trap me?”
Victoria shrugged.
“It worked.”
The Truth
Lily stood her ground.
“Why are you doing this?”
Victoria laughed bitterly.
“You still don’t understand.”
She walked slowly around Lily.
“I spent years beside Damian.”
“I loved him.”
“I planned a future with him.”
“And then…”
She stopped directly in front of Lily.
“You appeared.”
“I didn’t steal him.”
Lily replied quietly.
“I never tried to.”
Victoria’s eyes filled with rage.
“You didn’t have to.”
“He chose you.”
A Desperate Woman
Victoria pulled a folder from a nearby table and threw it onto the floor.
Pictures of Damian and Lily.
Newspaper articles.
Business reports.
Even old photographs of Damian with Victoria.
“I watched everything.”
Victoria whispered.
“I watched him smile again.”
“I watched him laugh.”
“I watched him become someone he never was with me.”
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
“I wasn’t enough.”
Lily’s expression softened.
“Victoria…”
“You need help.”
Victoria laughed through her tears.
“Help?”
“The only thing I ever wanted…”
“…was him.”
She slowly reached into her jacket.
Lily’s breath caught.
Victoria pulled out a handgun.
Lily instinctively stepped backward.
“Victoria…”
“Please.”
“You don’t want to do this.”
“I’ve already lost everything.”
Victoria’s hands trembled.
“If I can’t have my happy ending…”
“…neither can you.”
The Race Against Time
Several kilometers away…
Damian’s black SUV sped through traffic.
Marcus sat beside him while Captain Holloway coordinated officers over the radio.
“We’ve traced Lily’s phone.”
Captain Holloway’s voice came through the speaker.
“Old Riverside Warehouse.”
Damian pressed harder on the accelerator.
“Hold on, Lily.”
Inside the Warehouse
Victoria pointed the gun toward Lily.
“Do you know what’s funny?”
Lily remained perfectly still.
“What?”
“I used to hate you.”
Victoria smiled sadly.
“But now…”
“I envy you.”
“You taught Damian how to love again.”
Lily swallowed hard.
“He loved you once.”
Victoria shook her head.
“No.”
“He respected me.”
“There’s a difference.”
The silence was broken by the sound of distant police sirens.
Victoria froze.
Her eyes widened.
“You called them!”
“I didn’t!”
Lily answered truthfully.
Victoria realized what had happened.
“Damian.”
She whispered.
“He followed you.”
The Confrontation
The warehouse doors burst open.
“Police!”
“Drop the weapon!”
Officers rushed inside.
Damian ran through the entrance.
“Lily!”
She turned toward his voice.
“Damian!”
Victoria panicked.
She raised the gun.
Damian lunged toward Lily.
A gunshot echoed through the warehouse.
Bang!
The sound rang through the building.
Everyone froze.
Lily looked up in horror.
Damian staggered.
A dark stain slowly spread across the shoulder of his white shirt.
He had been hit.
“No!”
Lily caught him before he fell.
Tears streamed down her face.
“Damian!”
“I’m okay…”
He whispered weakly.
Police officers surrounded Victoria.
“Drop the gun!”
She looked at Damian…
Then at Lily.
The gun slipped from her trembling hand and clattered onto the concrete floor.
She slowly sank to her knees.
“I never wanted this…”
She whispered.
Officers quickly handcuffed her.
Captain Holloway called for an ambulance.
Lily held Damian tightly, pressing her trembling hands against his wounded shoulder to slow the bleeding.
“Stay with me.”
“I’m not leaving you.”
Damian smiled faintly despite the pain.
“I told you…”
He whispered.
“I’d protect you.”
She shook her head, crying.
“You idiot…”
“You were supposed to protect yourself too.”
He chuckled weakly.
“I’ll try next time.”
The ambulance sirens grew louder.
As paramedics rushed inside, Damian reached for Lily’s hand.
His fingers intertwined with hers.
He refused to let go.
And neither did she.
Far across the warehouse, Victoria watched silently as the man she had spent years chasing looked at another woman with complete love.
Only then did she finally understand.
Love could never be forced.
And trying to possess it had cost her everything.
