The executive floor buzzed with activity as employees rushed from one office to another.
Phones rang constantly, printers hummed, and keyboards clicked without pause.
Lily sat at her desk, completely focused on the mountain of reports Damian had assigned her.
She carefully sorted each file into labeled folders, checking every page twice.
She knew this was more than paperwork—it was a test.
She wasn’t going to fail.
At 11:30 a.m., her phone rang.
“Executive Office, this is Lily speaking.”
“Miss Carter,” Damian’s deep voice came through the line.
“Bring me the East Africa expansion file.”
“Right away, sir.”
She picked up the blue folder, smoothed her blouse, and walked confidently to the CEO’s office.
Damian barely looked up as she entered.
“The file.”
She handed it to him.
He opened it immediately, scanning the contents with practiced eyes.
After a few moments, he nodded.
“Well organized.”
Lily smiled.
“Thank you, sir.”
“You may go.”
As she reached the door, he spoke again.
“Miss Carter.”
She turned.
“Yes?”
“You work quickly.”
“I’ve always believed that if a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing well.”
Damian held her gaze for a second before returning to the documents.
“Good.”
It was only one word, but coming from Damian Wayne, it felt like high praise.
Outside the office, Sophia watched Lily return to her desk.
Her smile disappeared.
Three years.
Three years of working tirelessly, and Damian had never complimented her work.
Yet Lily had earned his approval in less than two days.
“This has to stop,” Sophia whispered.
She picked up her phone.
“Meet me in the records room.”
A few minutes later…
A junior employee named Kevin entered the records room.
“You wanted to see me?”
Sophia closed the door.
“I need a favor.”
Kevin looked nervous.
“What kind of favor?”
She handed him a small envelope.
Inside was a thick stack of cash.
Kevin’s eyes widened.
“All you have to do is move one file.”
“What file?”
“The financial report Lily is preparing for Mr. Wayne.”
Kevin frowned.
“That’s risky.”
Sophia folded her arms.
“Only if you get caught.”
He hesitated.
Then he looked at the money again.
“…Fine.”
Meanwhile, Lily was in the archive room searching for additional documents Damian had requested.
She hummed softly as she worked, unaware that someone had just slipped into her office.
Kevin quickly opened her filing cabinet.
He removed the most important report and hid it inside another department’s cabinet.
Less than thirty seconds later, he walked away.
No one noticed.
At exactly 4:00 p.m., Damian stepped out of his office.
“The board meeting begins in one hour.”
He looked directly at Lily.
“I’ll need the complete report.”
“It’s almost ready, sir.”
She returned to her desk and reached for the final folder.
Her smile vanished.
The most important file was gone.
She searched the left drawer.
Nothing.
The right drawer.
Nothing.
She checked every folder on her desk.
Nothing.
Her heartbeat quickened.
“No… no, no…”
She emptied the cabinet onto the floor.
Pens, notebooks, sticky notes…
But not the report.
Mrs. Brooks noticed her panic.
“Lily?”
“I can’t find it.”
“What?”
“The expansion report…”
Her voice shook.
“It’s gone.”
Across the office, Sophia hid a satisfied smile.
Five minutes later…
Lily stood in Damian’s office.
“I can’t find the report.”
Damian slowly looked up from his laptop.
“You lost it?”
“I know where I left it.”
“Yet it’s missing.”
“Yes.”
His expression hardened.
“Miss Carter…”
“I didn’t misplace it.”
“You expect me to believe someone stole confidential company documents?”
Lily met his eyes.
“Yes.”
The office fell silent.
Damian leaned back in his chair.
“Do you have proof?”
“No.”
“Do you know who took it?”
“No.”
“Then all I have are facts.”
Lily lowered her eyes.
“The report was in your care.”
She felt tears threatening to form, but she refused to let them fall.
“I understand.”
Damian stood.
“Find that report before six o’clock.”
“And if I don’t?”
His voice was calm.
“Then tomorrow will be your last day at Wayne Corporation.”
Lily nodded quietly.
“I’ll find it.”
She walked out of the office determined not to give up.
As the door closed behind her, Damian stared at the city through the window.
Something didn’t feel right.
Lily hadn’t struck him as careless.
But in business, instincts were never enough.
He needed proof.
Back in the hallway, Lily took a deep breath.
“I didn’t come this far to lose everything,” she whispered.
She looked around the office with renewed determination.
“If someone set me up…”
“…I’m going to find out who.”
Far down the corridor, Sophia watched with a triumphant smile.
She believed she had already won.
She had no idea that the security cameras in Wayne Corporation recorded every hallway, every office entrance, and every records room.
And by morning…
The truth would begin to surface.
