Evelyn was about to repeat herself when something suddenly felt wrong.

Madam Callahan’s expression didn’t seem right.

The pride and authority that had been there in her moments ago had vanished completely.Full novel: Betrayed In Love, Bound In Marriage: The Mafia Enemy’s Forced Bride. — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Her entire face had gone pale, and the hand resting at her side had begun to tremble.

Seeing her reaction like that, Evelyn paused, her brows furrowing in confusion.

“Which family did you say?” Helena asked again.

Her voice was louder this time —almost frantic.

Xavier’s brows immediately furrowed in concern.

This was exactly what had kept him worried all this while.

The revelation that Evelyn was a Beaumont.

He glanced towards his boss —only to find Damian’s expression already darkening.

Evelyn glanced at Damian too, the furrow of confusion between her brows deepening.

She couldn’t understand what was suddenly happening.

“The Beaumonts?” Helena repeated, as though saying the name aloud had made something inside her snap.

“You said you’re a Beaumont?”

Evelyn stared at her.

“Yes.

I’m—”

“No.”

Helena shook her head violently.

“No, that’s impossible.”

She hadn’t been in favor of Damian’s marriage from the beginning.

But learning that he had married a Beaumont out of all, seemed to have shattered something far deeper within her.

She turned sharply towards Damian.

“You … you married a Beaumont, Damian?”

Damian immediately stepped forward.

“Mother, let me explain.”

But it was as though his words were no longer reaching her.

Helena’s eyes had turned red, and tears were already spilling down her cheeks.

Her breathing grew increasingly uneven as she stared at Evelyn.

“You fell in love with a Beaumont?” Her voice trembled.

“How could you?

How could you fall for someone of that tainted blood?

How?!!”

She screamed, shaking her head, almost as though trying to reject what she was seeing.

“How could you—”

Her voice broke.

And before she could say another word, her vision blurred.

The room tilted.

And then everything went black.

Damian noticed it instantly.

“Mother!”

His panicked voice tore through the room as he lunged forward and caught her before she could hit the floor.

Her entire weight collapsed into his arms.

Even Evelyn flinched.

She didn’t have a particularly good impression of Madam Callahan either.

But she was still an elderly woman. Follow the newest chapters on g.com.

Seeing her collapse so suddenly left Evelyn stunned.

She instinctively took a step forward.

However, before she could get any closer, Matilda rushed past her, pushing her back.

“Madam!”

She immediately crouched beside Helena, checking her condition before looking up at Damian.

“Sir, Madam hasn’t been feeling well the entire day.

She didn’t even take her medicine today.”

Damian’s face darkened instantly.

He didn’t wait another second.

Scooping his mother into his arms, he carried her toward the staircase in one swift motion.

“Xavier, call the doctor.

Have him here within ten minutes,” he barked.

“Yes, sir.” Xavier at once responded.

Damian didn’t look back.

He simply carried Helena upstairs, his steps quick and tense.

Not once did he turn around.

Evelyn stood where she was, watching his retreating back disappear up the stairs.

Xavier noticed her.

But seeing Helena collapse had caught even him off guard.

He could only nod in response to Damian’s order.

“I’ll call Dr.

Adler right away,” he whispered to her out of no particular reason before stepping away to make the call.

Evelyn remained where she was.

Her fingers curled tightly around the fabric of her red wedding gown.

Somewhere in the distance, she could hear the maids whispering among themselves, their voices low and uneasy.

But Evelyn said nothing.

She simply stood there —alone.

She had imagined countless things for this night.

But in none of those imaginings had she seen herself standing alone in an unfamiliar home, surrounded by strangers, feeling as though there wasn’t a single person left in the entire world who belonged to her.

And what she hadn’t even dared to imagine has now somehow turned into her only reality.

Her lips trembled before she could stop them.

She lowered her eyes and closed them.

A single tear slipped free, tracing a lonely path down her cheek.

For the first time that night, Evelyn wondered if this was what it truly meant to have nowhere left to go.

Meanwhile…

Less than ten minutes later, Dr.

Adler was brought to the Callahan Estate.

Since this wasn’t his first visit, he didn’t need anyone to show him the way to Helena Callahan’s room.

Over the past few months, he had visited the estate several times to monitor her health.

He knew her room was on the first floor.

The moment Xavier ushered him through the mansion, Dr.

Adler instinctively moved toward the staircase.

However, he paused briefly in his steps when he noticed a woman standing alone in the living hall, dressed in all red.

He adjusted his glasses and took a closer look.

Then he turned toward Xavier and asked quietly, “Who is that beautiful lady?”

“That’s Mrs.

Callahan,” he answered.

“Sir married her today and brought her home.”

Dr.

Adler’s brows rose in surprise.

He glanced at Evelyn again.

Then, with a hint of sympathy, he said, “If that’s so, she’s a new bride.

How could she be left alone in the living room?”

Xavier knew exactly how wrong that looked.

However—

“Dr.

Adler, please come and check on Madam Callahan first.

She fainted earlier, and Sir ordered me to have you here within ten minutes.

We shouldn’t keep him waiting.”

Dr.

Adler immediately understood.

Not only the urgency of the situation, but Damian as well.

He nodded.

And then, without wasting another second, he hurried upstairs.

Xavier followed closely behind.

When Dr.

Adler entered Helena’s room, Damian immediately turned toward him.

“Mother fainted suddenly.

She hadn’t taken her medicine today.” His voice remained controlled, but the tension in his expression was impossible to miss.

“Please check on her, Dr.

Adler.”

Dr.

Adler was an experienced physician, and he had known Damian since the young man was a child.

Damian had spoken only a few words, and his voice remained remarkably calm.

But Dr.

Adler could see the deep crease between his brows.

He could see the concern Damian was trying to keep buried beneath his usual composure.

Dr.

Adler nodded reassuringly.

“I’ll take care of her.” He stepped past Damian and immediately began examining Helena.

Xavier moved forward as well.

But before he could get any closer, Damian suddenly caught him by the arm and pulled him out of the room.

Xavier barely had time to react.

The moment they stepped outside, he let out a startled gasp.

However, when Damian’s cold, stoic face came into view, he immediately composed himself.

“Sir, is there anything you want me to do?”

Damian didn’t answer.

Instead, his gaze remained fixed on Xavier as he asked quietly,

“Where is she?”
