Far beyond the Human Trial Space, another world was awakening.

The Tower did not belong only to humanity.

Its vast structure stretched beyond ordinary perception, containing countless spaces separated by rules that even awakened beings could not yet comprehend.Full novel: Beyond the Beginning — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Humans had entered one section, while beasts and plants had been drawn into environments suited to their own forms of existence.

None of them could see the others.

Yet all of them had entered the Tower on the same day.

The day Aetherion changed.

Deep within one of the Beast Trial Spaces, a young wolf opened its eyes.

It had lived for three years in the northern forests of Aetherion.

Before the Awakening, it had been nothing more than an ordinary beast, guided by hunger, instinct, fear, and the simple struggle to survive.

Then the world changed.

Something had awakened inside it.

Its body had become stronger.

Its senses had expanded.

Its mind had opened.

And with that awakening came something it had never possessed before.

Thought.

Not instinct.

Not memory.

Thought.

The wolf slowly raised its head.

It could understand the ground beneath its paws.

It could understand the air.

It could understand the sound of its own heartbeat.

Most strangely, it could understand itself.

The wolf looked toward the enormous Tower environment surrounding it.

A message appeared.

[Race: Supreme Beast.]

The wolf stared.

Another message followed.

[Bloodline awakening.]

Pain suddenly spread through its body.

The wolf staggered.

Its bones shifted.

Its muscles tightened.

A strange heat moved through its blood.

Then something ancient appeared within its mind.

A memory that wasn’t its own.

It saw an enormous creature flying beneath a red sky.

Four wings.

Golden scales.

Eyes like burning stars.

The creature descended upon a mountain and released a roar that shook the land.

The vision disappeared.

The wolf fell to one knee.

It didn’t understand what it had seen.

But something inside its blood understood.

An ancestor.

Not an ancestor it had personally known.

An ancestral path.

Knowledge preserved within its Bloodline.

The wolf slowly stood.

It understood how to strengthen its body.

How to circulate energy.

How to sense the weakness of another creature.

How to evolve.

But the knowledge was incomplete.

It wasn’t being given power.

It was being given a possibility.

The Tower was doing the same thing with countless awakened beasts.

A serpent received memories of ancient venom.

A bird received knowledge of wind currents and aerial movement.

A bear received an instinctive understanding of physical strengthening.

A dragon-like creature received fragments of an ancient bloodline.

Every beast received something different.

The Tower adapted to what they were.

A beast with a weak Talent received less ancestral knowledge.

A beast with a powerful Talent received more.

An awakened being with exceptional compatibility could receive enough information to discover an entirely new evolutionary path.

But none of them were simply handed mastery.

They had to understand what they had received.

They had to develop it.

They had to become something beyond what they had been.

The wolf looked toward the distant horizon.

For the first time in its life, it wondered what existed beyond the forest.

Then the Tower spoke.

[Trial begins.]

The wolf lowered its body.

A creature appeared in front of it.

The wolf recognized the scent immediately.

Predator.

Its instincts screamed at it to attack.

But now there was thought behind those instincts.

It watched.

It waited.

The creature attacked.

The wolf moved.

Its body reacted faster than its mind could fully understand.

It dodged.

Turned.

Struck.

The battle began.

Elsewhere, the Plant Trial Space had begun its own awakening.

An ancient tree stood in an endless valley.

Its roots extended beneath the earth.

Its branches reached toward a sky filled with unfamiliar stars.

For hundreds of years, it had existed without thought.

It had absorbed water.

Collected sunlight.

Spread its roots.

Produced seeds.

It had never wondered why.

Then the Awakening came.

The tree became conscious.

The first thing it experienced was silence.

The second was pain.

Its roots suddenly became aware of the earth surrounding them.

Every stone.

Every underground stream.

Every insect moving through the soil.

Every other plant connected to its roots.

The world became enormous.

Too enormous.

The tree’s consciousness expanded outward until it could sense an entire forest.

Then came the Bloodline.

[Chaos Tree Bloodline awakening.]

The tree trembled.

Its bark changed.

Branches twisted.

New leaves appeared.

The tree suddenly understood something that had never been possible before.

It was not alone.

There were countless other plants.

Some had awakened.

Some had not.

Some would evolve.

Some would die.

And some would become something entirely different.

A message appeared.

[Ancestral knowledge available.]

The tree received images.

Ancient forests.

Life Trees.

War Trees.

Sun Trees.

Elven forms.

Vast plant beings whose roots stretched across entire continents.

But the images were not instructions.

They were possibilities.

The tree understood that it could evolve.

But it didn’t know what it would become.

That choice belonged to it.

The Tower continued.

Across the Beast Trial Space, thousands of creatures fought, adapted, learned, and evolved.

Across the Plant Trial Space, forests became conscious, roots moved, vines learned to manipulate energy, flowers developed strange abilities, and ancient trees began understanding the world for the first time.

And among all of them, something noticed the sky.

It was a newly awakened cosmic being.

It had not been born like the others.

It had existed before the Awakening.

It had simply never possessed intelligence.

It was a small celestial body drifting beyond the atmosphere of Aetherion.

A moon.

Not the red Moon that now hung above the world.

Not one of the artificial celestial bodies within the Ten Domains.

A natural Cosmic Race body.

For countless years, it had moved through darkness without thought.

Then the Awakening touched it.

Its existence became aware.

Its consciousness spread through its own surface.

It sensed its position.

It sensed the world.

It sensed the stars.

It sensed the energy flowing through the universe.

And then it looked toward Aetherion.

The first thing it saw was the Sun.

The Sun had changed.

It was black.

Seven strange cores could be sensed within it.

Its surface seemed to twist around an expression that should not have existed on a celestial body.

The newly awakened moon felt fear.

It didn’t understand why.

The Sun had always been there.

But now it felt wrong.

The moon turned its attention toward the other celestial bodies.

The stars were different.

Some had become blue.

Some green.

Some violet.

Some gold.

Others had taken colours that the moon could not name.

The moon could feel intelligence awakening among them.

Some stars were becoming aware.

Others remained silent.

Some planets had begun changing.

Some comets had developed primitive consciousness.

Asteroids shifted slightly as dormant energy entered them.

The Cosmic Race was awakening.

But not everything was awakening equally.

Some cosmic bodies had received intelligence.

Others had not.

Those that remained without intelligence were simply bodies.

And without a conscious will to resist, they were vulnerable.

The moon suddenly sensed something else.

A pressure.

A stain.

Something spreading through the darkness between worlds.

It was faint.

Almost impossible to notice.

But it was there.

The moon turned.

Nothing was visible.

Then a distant asteroid changed colour.

Black spread across its surface.

The moon watched.

The corruption moved slowly.

The asteroid trembled.

No intelligence existed within it to resist.

The darkness consumed it.

The asteroid became completely black.

Then it disappeared into the void.

The moon remained still.

It did not understand what it had witnessed.

But it remembered the feeling.

Hunger.

Not ordinary hunger.

Something deeper.

Something that wanted existence itself.

The moon looked toward the black Sun again.

For a moment, one of the Sun’s seven cores brightened.

The moon felt the pressure disappear.

Then everything returned to normal.

The Tower continued its trials.

But deep within its systems, something had changed.

The Tower had been built to accelerate evolution.

It had expected countless awakened beings.

It had expected strange Talents.

It had expected unusual Races.

It had expected even rare Bloodlines.

But the Awakening was producing something much larger than a generation of powerful individuals.

It was awakening the world itself.

The boundaries between species were beginning to change.

Animals were becoming intelligent.

Plants were becoming conscious.

Cosmic bodies were becoming aware.

Ancient bloodlines were returning.

And humanity was no longer alone.

Back within the Human Trial Space, Eryndor stood before another challenge.

He suddenly felt something.

He looked upward.

He couldn’t see the Beast Trial Space.

He couldn’t see the Plant Trial Space.

He couldn’t see the distant moon.

Yet for the briefest moment, he felt a strange connection.

Millions of lives were changing.

Something had happened beyond humanity.

He didn’t know what.

But the sensation disappeared almost immediately.

Eryndor frowned.

The future memories in his mind offered nothing.

That was unusual.

He had remembered many things from the future.

Wars.

Kingdoms.

Artifacts.

Beings that would eventually stand at the highest levels of existence.

But this moment wasn’t there.

It had never happened in the future he remembered.

Another divergence.

Eryndor smiled faintly.

“So the world is changing too.”

A message appeared before him.

[New trial beginning.]

He looked forward.

The environment began transforming.

Far above the physical world, the ten golden barriers surrounding the ancient Domains remained silent.

They had appeared with the Awakening.

They protected the regions beneath them.

They preserved ancient remnants of power.

They did not think.

They did not plan.

They did not understand what was happening.

Yet one of them reacted.

Only for an instant.

A faint pulse passed through the golden barrier above Vaelcrest.

Something within the ancient remnant had sensed an existence it could not identify.

The pulse vanished.

No one noticed.

No one except the Tower.

And even the Tower did not understand what it had detected.

Back within the Beast Trial Space, the wolf finished its first battle.

It stood over the defeated construct, breathing heavily.

A notification appeared.

[Bloodline compatibility increased.]

The wolf looked at its own paws.

Then it looked toward the horizon.

It had been an ordinary beast this morning.

Now it possessed a mind.

A Bloodline.

A Talent.

And the beginning of a path.

The same was true for the tree.

The same was true for the newly awakened cosmic bodies.

The same was true for humanity.

Aetherion was no longer the world it had been yesterday.

And the beings who had awakened with it were only beginning to discover what that meant.

For the first time since creation, the world was filled with minds that had never existed before.

Some would become heroes.

Some would become rulers.

Some would become monsters.

Some would seek knowledge.

Some would seek freedom.

Some would seek immortality.

And some would eventually seek to make every living thing the same.

But none of them knew that yet.

The Awakening had only just begun.
