Theon’s phone almost slipped from his hand.
His heart thundered loud in his chest.
Thump!
Thump!!
THUMP!!!
His grip loosened loosened and he was not sure his body had fully registered what he had just heard.
He had caught the phone just in time, tightening his grip around it as he stood there in the middle of the hallway, completely still.
His body felt cold.
On the other end of the line, Sienna’s voice came again.
“Sir… do you want me to do anything?
Should I engage with her?”
Her words sounded distant, it sounded like they had to push through something thick before reaching him.
It was muffled and his world seemed to be moving slow.
His thoughts weren’t even lining up properly.
Azaria… she walked into… Rhodes Industries… she walked in.
His breathing shuddered as he took a deep breath to steady himself.
He had to keep his mind focused, but the words weren’t coming forth, so he said nothing.
“Sir?” Sienna repeated.
“Would you like me to engage?”
Theon blinked and then forced himself to respond.
“No.” The word came out flat and almost slurred.
What was he feeling?
He’d never felt like this before.
His entire body felt locked up and cold, it was well past uncomfortable.
“Just watch the building… watch for her,” he added after a second.
“When she comes out, let me know and keep your eyes on her.”
Sienna and Nathan could hear a slight tremor in his voice.
“Understood,” she said and he ended the call without another word.
He stood there motionless with the phone still in his hand, his mind trying to catch up with the world.
He suddenly caught Nathan off guard as he moved quickly.
Nathan straightened the moment Theon started walking again and fell into step behind him again, but something felt off.
The change in the atmosphere was obvious and it kind of made him nervous to even ask.
“Cancel everything,” Theon said.
Nathan blinked.
“Sir?”
“Cancel.
Everything,” Theon repeated without slowing down.
There was no room for argument in his tone.
Nathan didn’t question it again.
“Y– Yes, sir.” He powered on the tablet, typing hurridly as they continued down the hall.
He cancelled the meetings, calls, and appointments they had scheduled for the day.
His eyes flicked up briefly, watching Theon.
Something was wrong and he had moved away a bit in order not to listen in on his call with his wolf hearing.
They reached the office, and Theon pushed the door open with enough force that it slammed into the wall, making Nathan flinch.
Nathan followed, but stopped just inside and he shut the door behind them gently.
He checked the wall and made sure there wasn’t a dent before he turned to Theon again.
Theon immediately started pacing back and forth, back and forth, running his hands through his hair and down his face.
His hands flexed slightly at his sides, like he was holding something back.
Nathan stayed where he was, off to the side.
He had seen Theon in serious moments, he had seen him angry, too, but this was on a different level.
He didn’t know what to classify this emotion as, so he quickly typed out a message on his phone.
Nathan slipped his phone back into his pocket, his attention returning to Theon.
The pacing didn’t look like it was stopping any time soon.
If anything, it had picked up slightly.
The room felt like it was closing in and Nathan moved from foot to foot in discomfort.
Theon ran a hand through his hair again and strands were falling on his forehead, then dropped it his hand again and his jaw clenched.
His mind had caught up finally, jumping from one thought to the next.
What was she doing in Rhodes Industries of all places?
He had a creeping suspicion, but he chose to kill it before it surfaced, but it kept coming back.
Rhodes wasn’t just another company.
It was them.
She didn’t know them like he did.
To her, it was just a job.
Just another step forward after leaving Aldrith Corp.
But to him–
He groaned softly just as the door opened and Idris stepped in, his eyes immediately landing on Theon before it moved briefly to Nathan.
“What happened?” Idris asked Theon.
Theon stopped pacing and turned slightly in Idris’ direction.
“Sienna called,” he said.
Idris frowned slightly.
“And?”
Theon’s expression hardened.
“She saw Azaria.” His jaw tightened and he placed his hand on his desk, gripping the edges tight.
“She saw her walk into Rhodes.”
The words fell heavily in the room.
Nathan went still, almost losing this tablet in the process as well, but he quickly caught it before it touched the ground.
Idris didn’t know how to respond.
They’ve kept their distance from Rhodes as much as possible and now this!
“You’re sure?”
“That’s what I was told, Idris.” Theon glared at him.
He turned away again, running a hand through his hair before dropping it back on the desk.
“She drove there herself.”
Idris exhaled slowly.
“Then she’s not just passing by.” He bit his lip and looked around in thought.
“No,” Theon said.
“I suspect she’s looking for work there, if she hasn’t gotten it already.”
A very heavy silence followed and Theon could almost hear static.
Nathan continued shifting his weight from foot to foot.
He was beyond nervous now.
Idris took a step closer.
“It might not be confirmed yet.
She might be there for… something else.”
“What could possibly take her there after quitting her job here, Idris?
What?” Theon asked in a flat tone.
His shoulders were tense, his grip on the desk tightened.
Then suddenly, he slammed both hands down hard against the surface of his desk.
The sound was loud and it surprised the other two men in the room.
“Fuck!”
Theon was not one to easily lose his control.
He was usually very composed, but this was something they understood.
Mates were never something to joke about in the werewolf world.
They were your other half and having your mate in enemy territory, where you were blind to anything that could happen to her, would cause any composed man to lose his shit.
Theon stayed where he was, his hands still pressed against the desk, his head slightly lowered as he tried to steady his breathing, but the tension in his bones did not ease even a little.
“I’ll just have to wait,” he said as he finally took a seat on his chair and fixed his hair.
“Please, give me the room,” he told both men.
They nodded and exited.
There was nothing they could do now except wait.
Theon intertwined his fingers together and placed his elbows on the desk and stared intently at his phone for the next two hours.
Fuck!
This is a bit shorter because I’m a bit drained and have writer’s block right now, so I will only have one chapter out tomorrow most likely unless I am well rested!
Be back soon with more!
I have to stock pile A LOT of chapters in the next few days, so here’s to three hours of sleep and a lot of writers block to Come!
Thank you for reading thus far!
I truly appreciate it!
