Another call from Sienna came in two hours ago which almost felt like an eternity to him.
His phone buzzed against the desk, and he picked it up immediately when he saw the name on the caller ID.
“Tell me everything is okay.”
“It seems so, Alpha.
I’m following her again right now,” she said.
“She just left the building.”
Theon’s eyes closed.
He leaned back, pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed heavily.
This whole thing was giving him anxiety and he never had anxiety.
He did not like feeling like things were out of his control.
Sienna replied.
“She walked out about a minute ago.
Got into her car and drove off.”
His grip on the phone tightened just a little.
“Where is she heading?”
“I’m keeping my distance,” she said.
“But it seems she’s heading back to her apartment.
I’ll update you if anything changes.”
Theon nodded even though she couldn’t see him.
“Good.
Thank you, Sienna.
Please, make sure she’s okay at all times.”
“You’re welcome, Theon, and I will.”
He ended the call.
Theon was able to let his shoulders relax a bit now.
He still had the phone in his hand, and he threw himself deep in thought.
She had definitely gone in for a job interview.
What else would she have gone there?
That alone was enough to rattle him.
Whether she got the job or not didn’t matter yet because he wasn’t going to let it happen anyway.
The fact that she was even considering it was already a problem.
He set the phone down slowly, then picked it up again almost immediately and this time, he dialed his father’s number.
The call didn’t take long to connect.
“Theon, anything good for me this fine afternoon?” his father’s voice came through.
“Dad.
I have something serious to speak to you about.
It’s about Azaria,” he said.
Theon could hear a slight movement on the other end and Dorian’s chirpy demeanour was completely erased as he turned serious.
“What is it?”
Theon didn’t waste time.
“She went to Rhodes Industries today.
I have Sienna watching over her.
She called me and told me this morning.”
Heavy silence followed.
The news surprised Dorian as much as it had surprised Theon when Sienna called him.
He was still a bit rattled by it.
“You think she’s seeking a position there?” his father asked.
“It’s very likely that she is,” Theon replied.
A low sound came through the line as Dorian growled in anger.
“She cannot be there, son, she’s not safe,” Dorian said in a firm tone.
“I know she’s not safe there,” Theon said, rubbing his hand on his forehead.
He didn’t know where to start.
“Then get her out of there,” his father continued.
“Immediately.
Make sure she doesn’t get work there.”
Theon ran a hand through his hair, his expression tightening.
“It’s not that simple.”
“It doesn’t need to be simple,” Dorian replied.
“It needs to be done.
You need to get her away from Rhodes” Theon nodded and agreed.
“She will be part of this family,” Dorian continued. Read this novel at g.com for the best experience.
“That is not something that can be compromised.
If they find out she’s your mate,” Dorian said slowly, “there’s no telling what Aziel could say or do to her.”
Theon’s expression darkened.
He didn’t even want to think about Rhodes finding out without Azaria being within his reach and protection every time first.
“He wouldn’t dare,” he started.
“We don’t know that,” Dorian cut in.
“He may understand the value of a mate, but there’s no telling what he may do or say to use this as leverage to bring you down, son.”
The words sat heavily in Theon’s chest, crushing him and bringing back the fear for Azaria.
He just needed her with him and everything would be under control.
Nothing and no one would touch her when she was with him.
“We can only hope he’s not foolish enough to harm another man’s mate,” Dorian added.
“But hope is not something we rely on right now.
Make sure she doesn’t go back there.”
Theon exhaled slowly, his grip on the phone tightening again.
“I’ll handle it,” he said.
“You need to, and fast.
I don’t think the plan with your mother is the fastest route right now,” his father replied.
“There is no room for delay.”
“I understand, Dad.”
Then Dorian spoke again, his tone slightly calmer.
“Your mother is here as well.”
A faint sound came through the line, it was more movement on the other end.
“Theon,” Lenora’s voice followed.
“Hi, Mum.”
“I trust you know what you’re doing,” she said.
“I do.”
“Be careful,” she added.
“This situation can turn quickly if handled poorly.”
“I won’t let that happen, Mum, I promise,” he said.
“Good,” she replied.
There was movement again and shuffling sounds, then Dorian’s voice returned briefly.
“Keep us informed, Theon, please.”
“I will.
Bye, Dad.”
The call ended and Theon lowered the phone slowly, setting it back on the desk.
Then he exhaled through his nose and straightened his back on the chair.
His parents were right.
He was right to have called.
Under these circumstances where no one knew how to approach and handle a human mate, he would need all the help he could get.
He could not assume he could do it himself and end up ruining things more and having her hate him for life.
This wasn’t something he could wait on anymore.
He reached for the intercom.
“Idris.”
“Yes, Theon,” came the reply.
“Come to my office, please.”
“I’m on my way.”
Theon stepped away from the desk, pacing once again, though this time his steps weren’t as frantic and panicked as before.
The urgency of everything, the entire situation, was still there, but he was keeping his mind under control.
If he spiralled, everything would go down the drain and he couldn’t let that happen.
A knock came, then the door opened and Idris stepped in, closing it behind him.
“You called.”
Theon didn’t waste time.
“I need some information.”
Idris nodded, he stepped closer.
“What kind?”
“Azaria,” Theon said.
“Did she have anyone she was close to here?” Theon asked.
“Anyone she spoke to regularly?”
“I’m not entirely sure.
I haven’t really paid attention to anything, but her work until recently.” He shrugged.
Idris said.
“We didn’t mix too much unless it involved work.”
Theon stared at him with a blank expression.
This wasn’t helping.
“But,” Idris added quickly, flaying his hands a bit, “the day she left… I did see her speaking to someone.”
Theon’s focus sharpened.
“Who?”
“I don’t know his name,” Idris admitted.
“But I believe he works in the Operations department.”
“That narrows it down a bit,” Theon said and shook the thought that his mate was friends with another man away.
This was not the time.
Idris nodded slightly.
“I can go now and find out.” He made a gesture toward the door.
“Do it,” Theon said.
“And bring him to me, please.”
Idris gave a short nod.
“Understood.
Be right back” He turned and left the office without another word, the door closed behind him.
Theon moved back to his desk, but didn’t sit.
His hands rested lightly against the surface as he stared ahead, outside one of the tall windows in the room, at the busy streets down below, his mind already moving ahead of what he was about to do.
If he was going to get her back, he couldn’t do it alone and he couldn’t really bring his family into this aspect of things.
Everything would get weird for her and she might ask why his family cared so much that she was back there.
He needed someone who could reach her without raising suspicion.
Someone she trusted.
Minutes passed before there was another knock at the door.
“Come in,” Theon said.
The door opened, and Idris stepped in first.
Behind him was a man Theon didn’t recognize.
He was tall with brown hair and dark eyes and he looked slightly out of place in the office, his posture a bit stiff as he stepped inside.
His eyes moved quickly around the room before settling on Theon.
“Sir,” Idris said.
“This is the employee I mentioned.”
Theon gave a small nod.
“Thank you, Idris.”
Idris nodded and stepped to the side and crossed his arms as the room went quiet.
The man stood there for a second, clearly unsure of what to do.
“Come closer, please.
Have a seat” Theon said and took his own seat as well.
The man did as told, though there was hesitation in his steps.
Theon studied him for a moment before speaking again.
“What’s your name, sir?”
The man almost blanched at being called “Sir” by his boss.
The Big Boss.
“Rowan,” he said quickly.
“Rowan Williams, sir.
I work in the department of operations.”
Theon nodded once.
“I apologize for the sudden call.”
Rowan shook his head slightly.
“It’s alright… uh… am I in trouble?”
“You’re not in any kind trouble, so don’t worry,” Theon added.
Rowan let out a small breath.
He was extremely relieved to hear that.
“Okay.”
Theon straightened slightly, his gaze steady.
“I need your help.”
Alright!
Now Rowan is in the mix!
I’m getting jittery!
