Two hours in, and June was already beyond bored. He kept staring at the ceiling as though it held the answers to his escape.
Then he turned to Nyx, who was still going through the books before him without moving a muscle. He shook his head as he asked, "Hey, don’t you get tired at all?"
Nyx stared at him as he said, "I think you should get some rest for real. You’re just boring..." He said as he pressed closed Nyx’s book and leaned closer to him.
Nyx stiffened as June’s face pulled closer, as though protecting his lips from an attack, his heart skipping a beat.
June stared at him straight in the eyes as though trying to study him. "Do you read BLs?"
"B... B... what?" Nyx blinked, asking.
June shook his head, speechless. "Yaoi?"
"Ya...?"
June gasped. "Oh heavens. You’re such a disappointment to the Gods of good brains. What then do you read?" He shook his head as he folded his arms in shock.
"What are they... Some special books...?"
"Exactly! Only the best literature known to man!" He was a bit loud as he looked around—eyes were on him as he placed a hand over his lips. And then continued, "You know what, we should read more of them. I mean, they help boost one’s inner mana a lot!"
Nyx slowly nodded. "Oh... they must be top-tier books then."
"Top-tier indeed. So top-tier that this academy can’t even obtain them." He shook his head as he stared at the boring books he was reading.
"Maybe... Tell me more about these books...?" Nyx questioned as June smiled at him.
"Of course. You have top-tier ones like Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, Heaven Official’s Blessing, Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System... Oh, MXTX is just top-tier." He smiled.
"But these sound like..."
"And you also have comics like Jinx. Or maybe web novels like Seducing Male Leads to Survive as a Villain in a Novel." June sighed as he shook his head. "Good stuff. Good stuff..." He took his time listing them and telling him stories about them.
Strangely, Nyx was quiet. He wasn’t nagging him to read but was strangely listening to what he had to say.
The next minute, he got a tap on his back. The librarian cast him a murderous glare as he blinked with a smile. "Hello..."
"No talking in the library."
June was back to boredom, staring at the pages of his book.
With a deep sigh, he slowly reached into his pocket and pulled out a huge packet of chips. The sound cracked in the atmosphere as everyone around stared at him, now frustrated.
"What? Don’t look at me, I’m not sharing my chips. Continue reading." He insisted as he slowly opened his chips as quietly as possible.
"Where did you get that...?" Nyx questioned.
"From home, obviously."
"But it’s not allowed here..."
"But I’m hungry... I can’t eat on an empty stomach." He said as he secretly threw some chips into his mouth. "Don’t worry, I’ll be as quiet as possible. Not even a dead body will know I’m having chips."
One second.
Crack.
Another second.
Munch.
Another second.
Crack.
Another second.
Munch.
Munch.
Louder munching.
Everyone had their eyes on him. Awkward silence as he looked up at the frustrated librarian standing before him.
June smiled. "Want some chips?"
"No eating in the library!" He snapped as he took the packet from him. "One last strike, and you two are out."
June sighed as he watched him leave. "That little thief, stole my snacks. He should have just said he was hungry and I’d share..." He scoffed as he turned to stare at Nyx.
"What? I said no dead body would know I’m eating it..." He said in his defense.
And so he continued another boring session of staring into the book.
And just then, that gang walked in again.
The dark-haired guy from the hallway—the two ladies and two guys walked behind him like some cringe 2000s popular kid fever.
As they walked past him, their leader cast him an eye as the girls giggled.
"Two dumb fools trying to read—what could possibly enter?" She scoffed.
"Double dumbness." They giggled as they walked past them.
June rolled his eyes as he watched them go take a seat in a corner, almost rolling his eyes. "Those annoying musketeers. Who do they think they are? Especially that leader guy. Always acting cold and mysterious—is he some male lead or something?"
Nyx stared at him. "Don’t you like him anymore?"
June glared at him. "Why on earth would I like that frog?"
Nyx said nothing.
"I’d be blind to even like someone like that. Even the original body can’t be that dumb to like such cringe." He immediately paused as he recalled.
"Oh, that’s the male lead. Simon Royce." He gasped as he quickly recognized that face—how could he have not recognized it before?! It was the fucking male lead! The same one his character was obsessed with!
Shame instantly set in as June slowly turned, picking up Nyx’s book and covering up his face.
"Hey, what are you doing...? I want to read..."
"You ungrateful little one. Protecting my dignity comes first." He snapped, hiding his face from Simon in between the books.
When he saw that wasn’t enough and that they were potentially staring at him, he got up to his feet.
"Where are you going?" Nyx asked. "We still have a lot to read..."
"I want to go to the toilet."
"But there’s no toilet that side."
"Exactly."
"..."
June sneaked behind the bookshelves, potentially looking for a quick escape route. Memories of all the embarrassing things the original body did to win Simon over haunted him. "Gosh, this is embarrassing. I can’t believe that fool would even consider wearing a cloth with that frog’s face imprinted on it and claim him publicly. Oh Jesus, just kill me in shame."
He shook his head as he moved behind the bookshelves. He hid there for a while before Nyx came looking for him.
"What are you doing here?" Nyx asked.
"Eh? Me? Well, I’m just looking for important books as always." He smiled with his hands running through novels as though looking for something.
But a simple wrong hand placement, and June sent the whole twenty shelves of the library corner falling—one by one, against each other, they all fell, the books flying over each other.
Nyx and June had their eyes wide in shock as they watched it fall.
"Oops..." June blinked, and soon the librarian was standing before them. And he did not seem happy at all.
June smiled. "Well, look on the bright side... Nothing broke..."
Immediately, a mini chandelier fell to the ground from the impact and shattered. Everyone stared at the scene in shock.
"Oh." June nodded.
And the next second, the two of them were standing outside the library, officially kicked out with a ban not to enter the library for the upcoming months.
