The Great Spirit Archive of the Central 46 was the quietest place in Soul Society.

Miles of towering wooden shelves stretched into the dim, vaulted ceiling, holding over a million sealed scrolls.

Every birth, death, promotion, and execution across two thousand years was logged here under layers of heavy Kidō wards.Full novel: Bleach: The Lazy Captain — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Late at night, Fifth Seat Sōsuke Aizen walked soundlessly down the narrow aisle of Section Nine—the military roster records of the pre-war era.

He didn’t carry a lantern.

The faint glow of a low-grade illumination Kidō hovered over his shoulder, casting long, sharp shadows across his spectacles.

In his hands, he held three separate personnel scrolls, each tied with the faded red silk cord of the Tenth Division.

“Sato Kazuma,” Aizen murmured, his voice echoing faintly between the tall shelves.

He unrolled the earliest parchment.

*Entry Date: One hundred and twelve years ago.*

*Origin: District 79, Kusajishi.*

*Academy Entrance Score: 51 out of 100.*

*Zanjutsu: D-minus.*

*Kidō: Fails basic binding incantations.*

*Graduation Rank: 240th out of 250.*

Aizen’s eyes narrowed slightly behind his lenses.

He pulled open the second scroll—the combat service log from Kazuma’s thirty years as an unseated boundary guard and Seventh Seat in the Tenth Division.

Across three decades of field reports, every single incident followed the exact same absurd pattern:

– *Year 42: Adjuchas neutralized via ‘severe cranial trauma on limestone boulder.’*

– *Year 58: Gillian class Hollow destroyed after ‘accidental self-detonation of spiritual core.’*

– *Year 71: Three high-grade Hollows eradicated by ‘unfortunate mudslide during seasonal rains.’* Visit g.com for the full chapter.

Aizen traced the black ink with a gloved finger.

“A man who scored in the bottom five percent of his class,” Aizen spoke softly to the empty aisle, “yet possesses a perfect survival record across eighty years of border combat without suffering a single cut on his Shihakushō.”

He opened the third scroll: Kazuma’s Captaincy qualification exam.

It was signed by Captain-Commander Yamamoto and Captain Shunsui Kyōraku.

The Shikai evaluation was listed simply as: *’Defensive impact dispersion.’* The Bankai assessment was entirely absent, waived under the clause of battlefield merit and senior officer recommendation.

“Impact dispersion,” Aizen chuckled softly, a cold gleam dancing in his dark eyes.

“A convenient lie to appease the old man.”

Aizen thought back to the limestone crater in District 78.

He had spent six months personally engineering that eight-legged Adjuchas specimen.

Its outer shell was reinforced with high-density Reishi plating designed to counter kinetic impacts.

Even a seated officer using a direct Hadō #63 strike should have caused an explosive shockwave upon impact.

Yet Kazuma had not used force.

He had taken the kinetic energy of the charging beast, made it vanish completely from the physical plane, and then crushed the creature’s entire skeleton with a light tap of his sandal.

“Not dispersion,” Aizen whispered, rolling the scrolls back up with meticulous precision.

“Total energy absorption.

A domain of absolute thermal and kinetic suppression.”

He tied the silk cords, placing the scrolls back into their exact wooden slots on the shelf.

“A monster hiding in the skin of a lazy fool,” Aizen smiled, his polite facade returning in the dim light.

“How remarkably arrogant of you, Captain Kazuma…

to believe you can remain asleep while the world changes around you.”

Aizen turned and walked out of the archives, his footsteps dissolving into the dark.

Kazuma was lying on his back against the warm ceramic roof tiles, chewing on a dried persimmon, his straw hat resting over his forehead.

Beside him sat a small, unadorned brass bowl filled with clear spring water.

On the surface of the water, a microscopic circle of white frost floated, spinning in slow, perfectly rhythmic circles.

Whenever someone inside the Central Archives pulled a file stamped with the Tenth Division seal, the faint kinetic vibration in the paper was transmitted through a hidden thread of cold moisture Kazuma had planted in the binding sixty years ago.

The spinning frost slowed, then came to a complete halt.

Kazuma took a bite of his persimmon, chewing slowly.

“Section Nine, Shelf Fourteen,” Kazuma muttered to the night sky.

“Took him three weeks to check my academy scores.

Slower than I expected.”

He had known Aizen would dig into the archives the moment the crater incident ended.

A genius who believed he was the only chess master in the room could never resist the urge to inspect an unexplainable piece on the board.

Kazuma reached out and tapped the brass bowl with his finger.

The water froze solid in an instant, locking the moisture thread in place and erasing any trace of spiritual feedback.

“Look all you want, kid,” Kazuma sighed, pulling his hat down over his eyes to block out the moonlight.

“The paperwork is completely clean.

The excuses are on record.

And if you try to pull another ‘accident’ on my border…”

Underneath his white Captain’s haori, the scabbard of *Jakumetsu* pulsed once with a cold, silent heartbeat.

“…I’ll make sure your glasses end up at the bottom of a very deep ditch.”

He closed his eyes, let out a long yawn, and drifted off to sleep, waiting for the next move on the board.
