Derek sat in the chair in the small room which he had slept in. It was already past noon and the sun was at its peak. Its light sweeping in through the window.

He was amazed after he selected the reward for full recovery and all his sore muscles and injuries were recovered. It was nearly impossible for the young man to understand and to check if he was actually back to his peak condition, he ran back to the house.

"I ran back here but didn’t feel tired at all. Is this the effect of full recovery?" His lips curled up into a smile as he stared at his hand, no longer in pain.Full novel: Bloodline Ascension in a Game-Like World — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

"Wow. If I had known about this earlier, I would have done the quest yesterday and would not have gone through all that." He glanced at the system. "One moment I am punished for not completing the quest. Next, I am rewarded for completing it."

Derek did not dwell on the matter for long as he already accepted it. He stared at the crimson window before him and saw the remaining two unselected rewards.

"Attribute point?" His eyes narrowed. "That’s right! I saw it in my status." His hand moved to his chin as he relaxed his back on the chair.

"Just three? If I remember correctly, the attribute points then were zero. So does this mean I can use it for my attributes?"

"Status"

Derek called out for his status, and almost instantly, a different crimson window appeared at the corner of his eyes.

[Player’s Status]

{ Rewards }

1. => Full Recovery [Unavailable]

2. => Attribute Point +3

3. => Random Loot Box

You may choose any of the rewards below.

Derek scanned through his status window and nodded... Seeing how the attributes point is not yet updated, that means I need to accept it first.

"Accept... Attribute Points"

[Reward 2. Attribute Point, selected.]

Upon selecting the second reward, it was granted and the digit of the available attribute points changed from zero to three.

{Attributes Point: 3}

"Okay. Now, how do I use it?"

Almost as soon as the question was asked, a small line of details appeared below the attribute point.

{Attributes Point: 3}

[Description: The Player can increase any of their attributes by allocating the desired number of points to it.]

Hm. So basically If I allocate one attribute point to my strength it will increase by one. Which could also happen if I allocate two points. I think I guess the gist of it.

Derek had understood the use of {attribute points} and how it worked.

"Now, which should I increase?" He leaned forward, his fingers clasped together. "I only have three, so I need to pick the most useful."

Damn. Now that I look at it up close, my stats are pretty low. No wonder I was barely able to pass the penalty quest. If I’m to fight something like that again I would need strength. But since it’s just survival and not actual fighting, then speed would be the best. I could just keep running... Derek was deep in thoughts about his available options.

Hold on. If I complete the next daily quest does that mean I can earn more attribute points?... The thought came into the young man’s head and he was a little intrigued about it.

If that is the case, then I can assign one or two attributes now. Then tomorrow, after I get new points I can raise the others... Derek nodded as he was satisfied with his idea.

"I have zero speed, so I should at least increase it by one. Or two? I might be doing a lot of running in the future so my speed is needed. As for strength... that can be increased the next time."

Derek allocated two {attribute points} to his {speed} attribute as the number instantly changed from 0 to 2. He had a single attribute point left to use.

"For the last one... now." His hand moved to his chin.

Why is my agility null though? I would like to increase it. Pairing it with speed is a good fit. It’s not zero which means I can’t just increase it. Perhaps a trigger to unlock?

Derek was very familiar with what the null value signifies and didn’t need the system to understand it. Knowing this, his gaze shifted from {agility} to other attributes.

"Perception seems like a good fit to increase. But do I need it now? I might definitely use it sometime in the future. But for now, I will give the last point to strength."

Upon saying this, the {strength} attribute increased from 1 to 2 and Derek was satisfied by it.

He did not consider the last two attributes since they were not his main priority. Plus, one of them was good enough and didn’t need to be increased. He had concluded that by completing the daily quest, he would obtain more attribute points.

"Now for the last reward. I saved you for last because you sound more mysterious." Derek stared at the third reward, his gaze fixed on it.

"Accept... last reward."

[Reward 3. Random Loot, selected.]

At that exact moment, a small box materialized in the air and dropped. However, Derek was able to catch it on time before it hit the ground.

In his hand a square, deep blue gift box rested, elegantly wrapped with a matching satin ribbon tied into a large silver-trimmed bow.

"Is this the reward? A box?"

At the corner of his eyes, a different crimson window appeared.

[Random Box: Fortune Random Box]

[Description: Gives the player an item they want.]

"Give the player an item they want?" Derek was taken aback as he read the description of the random box.

Does it know what I desperately need? Will it give me a guitar if I asked for it?

Derek was excited. The concept of getting what he wanted thrilled him and he couldn’t wait to see how it was going to unfold.

"So, do I wish first and it will come?"

He placed his hand on the silver-trimmed box and unlatched it. The four sides instantly dropped away, revealing a blinding light within. It glowed brightly for a moment before fading to reveal an item floating in midair.

Floating before him was a small glass bottle filled with a vibrant red potion sealed tight with a wooden cork.

Derek’s gaze was fixed at the potion when the window that displayed the description of the random box changed and new information was revealed.

[New Item: Red Potion]

[Description: Heals physical wounds and restores health points.]

No way. This is exactly what I wanted. I mean it’s not a guitar but considering the situation I have been in, this would really come in handy.

The empty box disappeared while the red potion stopped floating in the air and landed on Derek’s hand. He held the potion carefully so as not to break.

"This is good, Everything is looking good."

The young man had a smile played on his face as he held the vibrant red potion.

...

A few days passed, and the day for the royal academy entrance exam arrived. Derek had completed his daily quests without fail and felt more than ready to take it on.

That morning, the young man with messy, spiky hair and striking crimson eyes was overflowing with energy. He wore a black long-sleeve tunic, the same one the old man had bought. Paid with tailored brown trousers tucked into sturdy knee-high boots.

Steeping out of the building, he climbed into a carriage bound for the capital.

"To the royal academy."
