Adrian's attention gradually shifted toward Kael Draven.
The young man rarely spoke to other students.
He attended classes, practiced alone, and frequently visited the academy's northern history section.
One evening, Adrian found him examining an old map.
"Still researching the north?" Adrian asked.
Kael glanced at him.
"Yes."
"Looking for your family?"
Kael nodded.
Adrian pulled out a chair.
"I recently read about the northern watchtower."
Kael's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Where?"
Kael studied it carefully.
"I've heard of this place."
"From your family?"
"My father mentioned it once. He said there was something beneath the tower."
Adrian remained silent.
That was useful information.
Kael continued.
"He believed it was connected to an ancient dragon."
Adrian's interest increased.
An ancient dragon?
That was far more significant than a forgotten knight's inheritance.
But he didn't show his excitement.
"Do you plan to investigate?"
"Eventually."
Kael folded the map.
"I know."
He stood and left.
Adrian watched him disappear between the bookshelves.
The northern watchtower was becoming increasingly interesting.
It might contain multiple inheritances.
Or perhaps the knight's chamber and the dragon's secret were connected.
Adrian returned to his room and reviewed his notes.
There was no reason to rush.
He needed more strength, better equipment, and reliable information.
Still, he made a decision.
Once the opportunity arose, he would travel north.
And he would prefer to do it before the original story's heroes arrived.
