(BLUE’S POV)

I woke up three days later chained to a metal bed and thirsty as hell.

That alone should have been shocking enough.Full novel: Blue Gem [BL] — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

But the real shock?

I wasn’t dead.

I was absolutely certain I should have been dead.

Instead, I found myself lying in a small room that looked like it had been designed by someone who hated sunlight.

The place was dark—no windows, no lamps, nothing.

Just thick shadows clinging to the walls.

And yet…

I could see everything perfectly.

Every corner.

Every scratch on the metal walls.

Every dusty footprint on the floor.

That was strange.

Very strange.

That should have also terrified me.

But it didn’t.

Because something else caught my attention.

Standing near the door were two familiar figures.

Jeremy and Sofia.

My father’s closest friends.

Except… they weren’t standing beside me.

They were standing far away, near the door, like they didn’t want to come any closer, like they were afraid of me.

And the looks on their faces…

God.

They looked so devastated.

Their eyes were red.

Their expressions hollow.

Sofia’s hands were trembling while Jeremy kept his arms tightly crossed like he was holding himself together by force.

Seeing them like that made my chest tighten painfully.

“Jeremy?” My voice came out hoarse and dry.

“Sofia?”

They both looked at me instantly; and hope rose in my chest like a desperate spark.

“Please tell me what’s going on,” I said, my voice shaking.

“Tell me… tell me that was just a bad dream.”

Neither of them answered.

The silence stretched, cold and heavy.

My stomach twisted.

“Please,” I whispered, panic creeping into my voice.

“Please tell me I didn’t just watch my entire family get killed… and drained of blood by monsters.

Please tell me.”

The moment the words left my mouth, Sofia suddenly covered her lips with both hands and then she started sobbing.

Not quietly.

Not politely.

She broke down completely.

The sound of it shattered something inside me.

The little piece of hope I still clung to.

That… that was my answer.

And I hated it.

“No!” I screamed and tried to jump off the bed but the chains yanked me back violently.

Cold metal dug into my wrists and ankles.

Rage exploded inside me.

Now I couldn’t see clearly pass my furry.

So I grabbed the chains that held me down and pulled.

Hard.

The metal rattled loudly through the room; but what I wasn’t prepared for was the sudden pain that shot through my entire body that I cried out.

It felt like my skin was burning.

Like someone had poured gasoline all over me and set me ablaze.

“Please Blue, stop!” Jeremy said urgently.

“Don’t do that.

You’ll only hurt yourself.”

But he still didn’t move any closer.

That only made the anger worse.

“What the hell is this?!” I gasped, staring at my burning wrists.

“Why does it hurt so much?!”

Jeremy hesitated before answering.

“The chains are made of silver,” he said carefully.

“They’re meant to suppress your strength… and keep you weakened for now.”

I stared at him like he had just spoken another language.

“What?”

The explanation made zero sense.

“Why would you do that to me?” My voice cracked as the anger boiled over.

“I’m not strong!

I couldn’t even stop the monsters that killed my entire family!”

My chest rose and fell violently.

“Why would you do this to me?!

Haven’t I suffered enough?!”

Jeremy and Sofia flinched.

“I thought you were family friends!” I shouted, my throat raw.

“Let me go!

Let me out of these things!”

But something strange was happening.

The more I yelled…

The weaker I felt.

The pain in my body intensified.

And worst of all, the thirst I woke up feeling, it was getting worse.

Much worse.

My throat felt like someone had poured fire down it.

Like it was drying up from the inside.

But it wasn’t normal thirst.

It felt like hunger.

A brutal, savage hunger clawing at my throat instead of my stomach.

“Blue please stop,” Sofia pleaded softly through her tears.

“You’re hurting yourself.

Just… calm down and let us explain.”

But calm down?

How the hell was I supposed to calm down?!

My entire family had been slaughtered!

My house destroyed!

And now I was chained to a bed like a prisoner!

Jeremy tried speaking again, but I kept shouting over him, not wanting to know anything that didn’t concern my freedom and thirst for revenge.

Eventually…

They stopped trying.

They both just stood there and watched me scream.

Jeremy leaned against the wall with a tired expression while Sofia wiped tears from her face.

In that moment, they looked like parents waiting for a stubborn child to finish throwing a tantrum.

And when my voice finally gave out…

When I was too weak to shout anymore…

Jeremy finally spoke again.

“Blue,” he said quietly, “have you noticed something strange?”

I glared at him weakly.

“What?”

Jeremy gestured around the room.

“We’re in a completely dark room,” he said.

“There’s no light source.

No windows.”

I frowned.

“So?”

“But you can still see perfectly.”

I paused.

He was right.

I could see everything.

Every detail.

Even the tiny crack in the wall behind him.

That… wasn’t normal.

Still, anger pushed the thought aside.

“And?!” I snapped.

“What does that have to do with anything?!

Let me out of here!

I need to go find my family!”

My voice trembled.

“They might have survived the attack too!

I survived, didn’t I?!”

Jeremy didn’t react.

He just kept talking.

“Secondly,” he continued calmly, “by now your throat must feel like it’s burning… like someone lit a fire inside it.”

My entire body froze.

“How…?” I whispered.

“How do you know that?”

He exchanged a glance with Sofia.

“And all you want right now,” he added quietly, “is to drink something.

Anything.

Just to make that burning stop.”

I stared at him in complete shock.

How did he know that?

Was I poisoned?

Bewitched?

What the hell was happening to me?

Jeremy noticed my expression and sighed softly.

“There’s an explanation for what you’re going through,” he said.

His voice suddenly sounded heavier.

More serious.

“And unfortunately… it has everything to do with the monsters you encountered five days ago.”

My mouth dropped open.

“Five… days?”

My brain struggled to process the words.

“Did you just say five days?!”

Jeremy nodded slowly.

Sofia wiped her eyes before answering.”The monster invasion happened five days ago,” she said softly.

Her voice broke again.

“You’ve been unconscious the entire time.”

“And as for your family’s bodies…” Jeremy continued slowly, like every word weighed a hundred pounds.

“I had them cremated.

It was the only option we had.”

The words hit me like a punch to the chest.

Cremated.

Gone.

My entire family was gone.

Just like that.

Jeremy rubbed the back of his neck, clearly uncomfortable.

“You may not believe me now,” he added quietly, “but you will someday.

Sofia and I—along with a few of our friends—tracked those monsters back to their hideouts.”

His eyes hardened slightly.

“And we massacred every single one of them.”

The way he said it was calm.

Too calm.

“They won’t be bothering anyone again anytime soon.” He added.

I stared at him blankly.

Slowly, my head shook.

No.

I didn’t believe him.

Not even a little.

In my mind, Jeremy and Sofia were hiding something.

Maybe they knew those monsters.

Maybe they worked with them.

Maybe this whole thing—my family’s deaths, me being chained to this bed—was all part of some twisted lie.

My thoughts were spiraling, suspicion growing darker and darker.

But I couldn’t keep arguing because my throat was on fire.

The thirst was getting worse.

Much worse.

It felt like my throat was drying out from the inside, like something was clawing its way up my neck demanding to be fed.

My breathing became uneven and then…a horrifying thought slipped into my mind.

I wanted to bite something.

No.

Not just bite.

I wanted kill something.

I wanted to sink my teeth into something.

The urge was so strong it made my stomach twist.

The thought alone scared the hell out of me.

Why would I want something like that?

What the hell was wrong with me?

What was happening to my body?

My hand flew to my throat as another wave of burning pain shot through it.

“What… is happening to me?” I rasped, gripping my neck desperately.

Jeremy looked at me with an expression full of sadness.

Real sadness.

“You’re thirsty, son,” he said softly.

The way he said son made something ache in my chest.

“You’re thirsty for blood.”

My mind went blank.

“Wh… what?” I tried to say, but the words barely came out.

My throat felt too dry to even speak properly.

Jeremy didn’t stop.

“Those monsters you saw that night,” he said, “they’re known by another name.”

He paused.

“They’re called vampires.”

The word echoed in my ears.

Vampires.

“They were once humans,” Jeremy continued.

“Just like you.

But when a vampire bites someone, they either kill the victim or infect the victim with their venom.

The venom spreads through the body… and slowly transforms them.”

My heart began pounding violently.

“And when the transformation is complete,” he said quietly, “they become vampires too.”

My mouth slowly fell open as realization crept into my mind.

“No…”

Jeremy’s voice didn’t stop.

“And vampires survive by drinking blood.”

My chest tightened.

“No.”

The pieces of the puzzle started connecting in my head.

The darkness I could see through.

The burning thirst.

The chains made of silver.

Jeremy and Sofia keeping their distance.

“No… no… no!”

I shook my head violently.

“Don’t say it!” I shouted.

But Jeremy said it anyway.

His voice was gentle.

Apologetic.

“We’re so sorry, Blue.” Sofia started crying again behind him.

“But when that vampire bit you,” Jeremy continued, “you were infected too.”

My heart felt like it stopped beating.

Actually, ever since I woke up, I hadn’t heard it beat.

Not once.

“And now…” Jeremy swallowed hard before finishing.

“You’ve become a vampire.”

The words crashed into me like a tsunami.

“And right now,” he added quietly, “you’re burning from the thirst.

It’s always worse for newborn vampires.”

The room suddenly felt colder.

Smaller.

Like the walls were closing in.

My hands and entire body began shaking.

My fingers slowly curled into fists and a single thought kept repeating in my mind over and over again.

This can’t be happening.

This can’t be real.

“I said shut up!” I roared.

“I don’t believe you!

I can’t become a monster!

That’s impossible!

No!

I refuse to accept it!”

My voice echoed violently around the small room.

Jeremy didn’t argue.

He didn’t raise his voice.

He didn’t even look angry.

Instead, he simply stared at me for a moment… then quietly walked to the door, opened it, and stepped outside without another word.

The door shut behind him with a soft click.

Sofia stayed.

She looked absolutely heartbroken.

“Blue… please,” she whispered, taking a cautious step forward before stopping herself.

“Please calm down.

We’re trying to help you.”

But I couldn’t calm down.

How could I?

My chest felt like it was being crushed from the inside.

I was supposed to accept that I had become the very thing that slaughtered my family?

The very monsters that drained them of blood?

No.

I couldn’t.

I wouldn’t.

A few minutes later, the door opened again.

Jeremy stepped back inside.

And this time, he wasn’t alone.

A live deer struggled in his arms.

The animal kicked and cried in panic, its terrified bleats filling the dark room as Jeremy carried it inside and set it down beside his feet.

I stared at him.

Angry.

Confused.

Speechless.

The deer tried to scramble away but Jeremy held it firmly.

“What is this for?” I finally asked, my voice dry and hoarse.

Jeremy looked at me like the answer was obvious.

“Food,” he said simply.

“It’s going to cure your thirst.

At least for now.”

I blinked.

Then slowly looked at the deer.

Then back at him.

Then at Sofia.

Then back at Jeremy again.

He wasn’t serious.

There was no way he was serious.

“You… you’re not expecting me to kill that poor animal and drink its blood… right?” I asked slowly.

The silence that followed told me everything.

Jeremy nodded.

My stomach twisted violently.

“This is the only way you’re going to survive, Blue,” Jeremy said calmly.

“Right now, your body needs blood.”

His voice softened.

“We’re going to make sure you don’t become the kind of monster you hate.

We’re going to help you live as normal a life as possible.”

He held my gaze firmly.

“No matter how difficult that might seem right now.” Then he added quietly, “I promise.”

Sofia wiped her tears and nodded quickly.

“I promise too,” she said.

I couldn’t stop the bitter laugh that escaped my throat.

“Yeah, right.”

My eyes flicked toward the door where they had both been standing earlier.

“You’re going to help me?” I scoffed.

“How exactly do you plan to do that?

By standing by the door like you’re ready to run the second I move?”

The burning pain had spread from my throat now.

It crawled through my chest.

My arms.

My entire body.

Jeremy suddenly laughed.

Not mockingly.

Just… amused.

“Son,” he said, shaking his head, “you think we’re standing near the door because we’re afraid of you?”

I gave him a look that clearly said obviously.

If they weren’t afraid… then what else could it be?

Without another word, Jeremy picked up the deer again.

Then he did something unexpected.

He walked straight toward my bed.

Confidently.

Like there was nothing to worry about.

And that’s when it hit me.

A sharp, very repulsive smell.

It slammed into my nose like a truck.

“Ugh—what the hell?!” I gagged.

It smelled awful.

Like wet dog and rotten garbage.

And something else I couldn’t even describe.

Disgusting.

When I first woke up, I had noticed a faint bad smell in the room, but it hadn’t been too strong.

I had simply assumed the room itself smelled terrible.

After all, who knew what horrible things had happened in a place like this?

But now…

Now the smell was unbearable.

And it was coming from Jeremy.

Probably Sofia too.

Which made absolutely no sense.

Jeremy and Sofia had always smelled… nice.

Comforting.

Their scent used to make me want to stay near them.

So why did they smell like a walking landfill now?

“What in the world is that awful smell?” I groaned, trying to cover my nose with my chained hand.

Bad idea.

The silver chain brushed against my face.

Pain shot through my skin instantly.

I hissed and jerked my hand away.

Jeremy chuckled.

“It’s not that bad,” he said.

I glared at him.

“It’s horrible!” He shrugged.

“That’s your new sense of smell,” he explained.

“Everything is a lot stronger now.”

He gestured toward himself and Sofia.

“That’s also why we were standing by the door earlier.

We didn’t want to overwhelm your senses.”

I opened my mouth to ask more questions but suddenly the thirst surged again.

Harder this time.

Stronger.

It felt like my throat was being ripped apart from the inside.

My vision blurred.

My thoughts became foggy.

And before I even realized what I was doing, my arms shot forward.

The chains rattled violently.

I grabbed the deer straight out of Jeremy’s hands.

The animal struggled wildly; and then, my teeth changed.

They grew longer.

Sharper.

I felt them extend painfully inside my mouth.

But the pain didn’t matter.

Nothing mattered.

All that existed was the thirst.

I sank my teeth into the deer’s neck.

Hot liquid filled my mouth instantly.

And I drank.

Greedily.

Ruthlessly.

The deer’s cries echoed through the room as it struggled desperately.

But the sounds grew weaker.

And weaker.

Until…they stopped.

Completely.

The moment my throat stopped burning, my mind suddenly cleared.

It felt like waking up from a nightmare.

Reality crashed down on me.

Horrified, I threw the lifeless deer away from me.

Its body hit the ground with a dull thud.

“I… I killed…”

My voice trembled violently.

“I just… killed…”

My eyes stared at the blood on my hands.

“I just drank…”

But I couldn’t finish the sentence.

Jeremy watched me quietly.

There was nothing but pity in his eyes.

“Blue,” he said gently, “calm down.

Everything will be fine.

It just takes time.”

His words only made the anger explode inside me again.

“How would you know?!” I shouted.

My voice cracked.

“You’re not the one who just turned into a monster that drinks blood!”

I pointed at him accusingly.

“How could you possibly understand how I feel?!” My chest heaved.

“You’re just some smelly human who thinks he knows everything!”

Jeremy’s expression hardened slightly.

“Blue,” he said firmly, “you are not a monster.”

His eyes locked onto mine.

“You’re a good kid.

And I will watch over you to make sure you never become like the creatures that hurt your family.”

Then a small smirk appeared on his face.

“And as for being just a smelly human…” He tilted his head slightly.

“Who told you I was human?”

My brain froze.

“…Or did you just assume that on your own?”

My mouth slowly fell open.

And suddenly…

I had no voice left.
