The purple eyes of the wretched feind paired directly with mocking glee at that of Kyle.
Unlike he who was stained, with wounds and blood from having to fight his way here, the Knight appeared unharmed compared to him.
At this Kyle tightened his grip around his sword.
"Come and fucking face me like the bastard you are!!"
The Wretched Monstrosity stood with its sword stuck deep into the ground.
Its usual senile grin was plastered across its expression.
Even amidst the chaos.
Even surrounded by the carnage of the battlefield.
It looked completely at ease.
As though it had already seen the ending of this battle. And knew it would be a definite win for it.
"Proud bastard... Of all the kinds of fools that make my skin crawl, I despise your type the most."
The grim knight tilted his head slightly and chuckled once again.
Kyle used the side of his arm to wipe away the blood staining his face, clearing the crimson and black liquid threatening to obstruct his vision.
Then he straightened his stance.
"It seems our legions are at a stalemate."
The Grim Knight slowly raised its blade.
The obsidian-shifting sword shuddered in the grasp of the monstrosity, the weapon seeming to twist and move like a living thing.
"We will end this in a mighty one-on-one..."
With that—
The Grim Knight sprang forward.
Boom!
Its body crossed the distance between them in an instant.
Its sword descending with unnerving speed.
Kyle raised his own blade in response and blocked the attack.
The impact sent a violent tremor through his arms almost causing his grip to loosen.
Then another attack came.
And another.
And another.
The Grim Knight rained a flurry of blows down upon him.
Each attack was stronger than the last.
Faster.
More vicious.
Every swing carried enough force to carve Kyle into two halves like hot knife through butter.
But Kyle held his ground.
He parried.
Blocked.
Dodged.
And even retaliated.
Their blades colliding again and again, sparks scattering through the air like dying embers.
The two mighty forces were at a stalemate.
Every gruesome killing blow was blocked by the other.
Every attempt to overwhelm the opponent was answered with an equal measure of resistance.
What Kyle could not make up for in strength, he did in speed.
What he lacked in raw power, he compensated for with battle instincts.
His body moved before his mind could even think.
His sword followed his instincts, feet shifted, shoulders twisted.
He was fighting like a cornered beast and that was his greatest advantage in this battle... Hopefully.
For a moment...
It seemed both the Knight and Kyle were at the same level of strength.
But...
Kyle’s pride would not allow such.
No.
Even if he was without his hands, he would not allow this horrid monstrosity to be an equal to him.
Not after everything this monster had done to him.
Not after how it tore its fate from him and mounted it on some gruesome wall.
This demon had been the nightmare that terrorized his nights... No more!
"Give me back my fate, you bastard!"
Several sparks of dying embers scattered into the air as Kyle blocked a desperate thrust.
Then he jumped forward.
His sword shot forward, in a deadly thrust towards the heart of the Feind.
But to the horrid Knight...
It was predictable.
The creature purposefully sidestepped letting Kyle’s blade pass harmlessly beside its body.
The Grim Knight’s purple eyes flashed.
Its hand rose, sword flashing upwards.
The blade was aimed directly at Kyle’s exposed neck.
Kyle’s entire body had committed to the thrust. He was too close, too slow to maneuver himself to even evade the lethality of the attack.
If that sword dared come down... It would be his end.
"I win..."
The obsidian Knight raised its sword into the air.
Ready to bring it down, to end the battle and finally sever Kyle’s head from his body.
But then...
Its gaze met Kyle’s own.
And it hesitated.
’Those eyes... Why do they look so fierce...’
Grab!
"What?"
The eyes of the obsidian Knight shifted upwards.
To its sword.
Raised high overhead.
A pair of grotesque fingers were wrapped tightly around his wrist.
The fingers squeezed.
Hard.
With enough force that the armour covering the Grim Knight’s hand threatened to shatter.
The Grim Knight’s gaze shifted.
And there...
Standing behind it...
Was the Loyal Lord Roach.
The grotesque creature had silently crept behind the Knight during the battle and that moment of hesitation had been just enough for Lord Roach to wrap Its monstrous fingers around the Knights gauntlet, preventing the blade from descending.
"What in hell is this..."
Before the Grim Knight could finish—
The entire world tilted.
Left.
Then right.
Then left again.
The Knight’s body was suddenly lifted from the ground.
Its vision spun.
The battlefield became nothing more than a blur of black blood, monsters, knights and crimson flashes.
It spun through the air.
Once...
Twice.
Three times.
And then finally.
Thud!
Its head crashed down onto the cold, hard ground.
The impact sent a shockwave of dust and blood outward.
The Grim Knight’s eyes surging within their sockets in utter disbelief.
It had lost.
No! That was impossible.
The Knight had been certain.
It had seen the ending of this battle.
It was supposed to be the one left standing.
Yet now...
Its gaze slowly lifted.
Kyle stood before it.
The young man stared down at the purple eyes beneath the cracked visor of the Grim Knight’s helmet.
Slowly, but surely fade away
The colour disappearing and leaving behind nothing but hollow darkness within the visor.
The body of the Grim Knight buckled at the knees a number of times and then...
Clatter!
It fell onto its side.
Dead.
Around the bloody battlefield, the bodies of every single one of its legion suddenly began to tremble.
Every Decayed Knight bursting apart.
Their bodies dissolved into a wave of black dust that spread across the battlefield before immediately fading into nothingness.
Silence.
For the first time since the battle had begun...
Silence... That was what filled the air.
And Kyle amidst the remains of the battlefield, stood in the utter silence.
Blood bathed his body.
His sword hung loosely in his grasp.
His breathing heavy.
His body aching from wounds and battered bone.
Yet he had won.
His head slowly turned upwards.
He stared into the total blackness of the night sky.
For a long moment, he said nothing.
Then his eyes dimmed.
Kyle finally let out a sigh.
A happy sigh... A tired sigh... A truly fulfilled sigh.
After all...
The battle was won.
