Lynn looked at the handsome man in front of her and explained cheerfully, "Morgan’s shirt got wet, she’s gone to change clothes."
It was the middle of summer; the room had air conditioning, and there was a strong breeze on the lawn—shirts weren’t even hot. Renee had just sung and danced, all hyped up, sweating like crazy and unable to stop.
"Alright, no problem. I just wanted to thank her—and thank you all, too." Miles Yates spoke sincerely.
Because of his strained family relationships, he hadn’t celebrated his birthday in many years. Tonight’s livestream would definitely be seen by his family, letting them know he was doing well now—that was enough to make him feel satisfied.
...
After greeting Lynn, Renee went off to change clothes.
Halfway there, she happened to run into Wendy, who was also heading back to change. The two of them walked together.
"Renee, I didn’t expect your singing to be so nice—why not become a singer?" Wendy said sweetly.
"I prefer acting," Renee replied.
"Ah, what a pity, I was even thinking of introducing you to a record company." Wendy sighed in mock regret.
They chatted as they went, and quickly arrived back at the hotel. Renee’s room was on the second floor, Wendy’s on the third. As they passed Renee’s hallway, Wendy laughed and asked, "Renee, can I take a look at your room?"
Renee lowered her gaze, the corners of her mouth curving in a faint smile. "Sure, though I haven’t really tidied up."
Renee opened the door, and Wendy walked in first, scanning the room before heading straight for the bathroom. "I drank too much tonight—mind if I use your bathroom?"
Renee simply grunted, not even looking up as she rummaged through her suitcase for clothes.
Wendy lifted her skirt and entered the bathroom, but didn’t actually attend to any physical needs. Instead, she went to the towel rack, closely examining the two towels to confirm they were the ones she’d given Renee. A broad smile spread uncontrollably over her face.
The towels were wet, mixed with the scent of body wash—looks like Renee had been using them all along.
When Wendy came out, Renee had already removed her makeup and slapped on a cleansing mask. She glanced up at Wendy emerging from the bathroom, her gaze calm and serene.
Wendy was about to leave, but thinking of something, she sat down next to Renee with gentle concern: "I heard you mention this morning that the hotel’s bedding wasn’t clean, and that you were itchy all over. Did the ointment help at all?"
Renee subconsciously scratched at her back, then reached to undo her wrist cuff, revealing red marks. Maybe from scratching, the welts looked frighteningly swollen.
Wendy gasped, "How did it get this bad?"
Renee called out "Shit," hurried to grab the ointment from the table, and slathered it on the swollen areas, muttering, "It cleared up this morning—why is it back again..."
Wendy saw how anxious and irritable Renee looked. The smile at the corners of her lips grew, then was swiftly replaced by composure. "Your skin is pretty sensitive. Honestly, this little motel isn’t as clean as a real hotel. If you didn’t bring long-sleeved pajamas, I can lend you a set."
"What about you?" Renee asked, a bit embarrassed.
"I brought several sets, all washed clean." Wendy explained.
This time, Renee smiled and stood up: "Thanks, Wendy, I’ll go back with you to get them."
Wendy wanted to refuse, she could have brought them down herself, but Renee was already at the door putting on her shoes. She could only swallow the words she was about to say.
The two of them went upstairs to Wendy’s room on the third floor.
On the way, Renee suddenly took a phone call. She stepped into the bathroom to answer it, and by the time she emerged, Wendy had already bagged the pajamas for her.
Renee thanked her gratefully, took the bag and asked to borrow the bathroom—she needed to pee urgently.
"..."
When Renee entered the bathroom, she noticed Wendy’s towel hanging there—it was the same one from the hotel, only this towel was bone dry with no signs of use.
Since last night till now, Wendy hadn’t showered. She probably used wet wipes to wash her face this morning.
Renee didn’t touch the dry towel—that would arouse Wendy’s suspicion. Instead, she walked up to the rack in front of the mirror and took the toothbrush and wet wipes placed there.
She soaked the pajamas from the bag in water, scrubbed them thoroughly, then wrung them out and tossed the toothbrush and wet wipes in the water too.
Whether it was the shower towel, the face wipes, or the toothbrush, Wendy was bound to use at least one of them.
Renee thought back to her dream of a severe allergic reaction—it definitely wasn’t just an ordinary medication. This kind of stuff, once you come in contact with it, causes a massive allergic breakout.
She wanted Wendy to get a taste of rotting skin and that torturous discomfort too.
Renee kept count of the seconds before fishing the toothbrush out, putting it back in place, and taking out the entire pack of wet wipes, draining the excess water, drying the outside, and placing it back as well.
After handling everything, she finally left the bathroom with the bag and said goodbye to Wendy.
Wendy wished Renee would hurry back to shower, her face sweet and cheerful. "You go freshen up and change quick—we’ve still got the party to finish."
Coming back to change midway—the party wasn’t over yet; they still had to return.
Renee answered, waved farewell, and left with the bag.
When the party finished that night, it was already after ten. After showering back in her room, Renee turned off her phone and fell straight asleep.
Wendy waited until one in the morning. When she saw the trending drafted posts from her contact, she was suddenly wide awake, reading through them three times before tapping out a reply: "These are good. Let’s just stick with these—no need for edits. Post them right at nine tomorrow; make sure it’s trending."
After a few minutes, the other side quickly replied: "No problem, the trending slots are already booked. Send the posts over, and once you confirm the time, we’ll handle it."
...
When Renee woke up early the next morning, she did a set of yoga before starting to pack her suitcase. They had to head for the base today. She put the two towels and the pajamas together in a bag and stuffed it into the corner of her suitcase.
The production team handed out breakfast to everyone. After eating, they gathered to get ready to leave—by then it was around nine.
Renee was waiting for the director’s signal to gather, having no idea she was already blowing up online.
Renee was a newcomer, only blowing up online because Wendy bought trending slots, and it was tied to Miles Yates’s birthday.
