“Am I still not good enough for you, Milla?
Why do you keep rejecting me time and time again?” Mike uttered in a wounded voice while keeping his face down, not knowing how to face her to avoid displaying weakness.
A few people glanced at them in curiosity, after all, most of the population in the return were werewolves.
“Let’s talk outside, Mikey,” annoyed, she stood up and made her way outside while Mike tailed closely behind her.
“What is it you want, Mike?
Speak clearly,” she huffed while looking away.
“I love you, Camilla, you know that much.
I was going to propose to you at the hall when you stopped me,” Mike said, sounding terrible.
Camilla took a deep breath and turned around.
“What use would it be to allow you to make a fool out of yourself when you knew I never had those kind of feelings for you?” she questioned, unintentionally raising her voice and sounding harsh.
“I made my stance clear from day one, Mike.
I never gave you a reason for you to believe I wanted more, so tell me why you would go as far as proposing to me, despite knowing I can’t feel any emotion inside me?” she demanded, while giving him a reality check.
Mike, who heard the last statement she made, looked up to her, stunned.
Not wanting to believe what he heard, he repeated, “You can’t feel any emotion?” he asked in absolute shock.
“Why do you ask as if you are ignorant of this fact?” she stared back at him in annoyance instead of answering his question.
“How could you not know when it’s a commonly known fact here in the university?
I even caught you eavesdropping on me and Lila’s conversation the other day, so why do you stand in front of me pretending to be clueless?
Or do you want to mock me for not being capable to love someone?” she asked angrily.
“You never told me yourself, Milla, so how could I believe an outside person to tell me what you should have told me?
And for moon goddess’ sake, why would I eavesdrop on your conversation with Lila?
I’m not that shameless,” he muttered angrily.
Camilla gave him an apologetic look when she realized she accused him unjustly.
“I’m sorry, but I really thought you knew, Mike.
And for accepting your proposal, I’m sorry.
I don’t think I could ever see you as anything more than being a friend.
Wait for your mate, Mike.”
Mike sighed as he raised his head to look at the sky, to control his tears.
“You really are mean, Milla.
You are really stone-hearted,” he chuckled.
“I forgive you for hiding this fact from me, dear friend.
I won’t impose my feelings on you anymore, but for now, I have to go organize my thoughts.
Let’s plan a picnic tomorrow,” he smiled sadly and nodded at Lila, who was behind him, and he left.
Lila, seeing the situation ended on a better term than she expected, smiled as she walked towards Camilla.
“I hurt him bad, didn’t I?” she asked as soon as Lila came closer.
“You did, but I trust him to be fine in the morning.
Don’t be sad, Milla, this is totally not your fault, as it isn’t a matter for you to decide.
You will come around, just give him time.
He is a big baby after all, a little cuddling will do, and he will be fine,” Lila assured.
“Let’s go home, it’s getting late,” Milla said as she glanced at her watch.
Upon getting home, she was stunned upon seeing that her family’s house had been decorated.
She rushed inside and she sighted her mom, who was giving instructions to the decorator.
“Mom!” she called out, and Julia, who was talking, froze before turning towards her, smiling.
“Camilla, my wonderful daughter!” she called out happily, while stretching her hands, which Camilla ran into to embrace her.
“You did it, Milla!
You are done with your studies, and it’s now time to think ahead,” she remarked with so much emotion in her voice.
Noticing her mom was getting emotional about her latest achievement, she looked down at her and wiped a tear that ran down her mother’s cheek.
“This is time for celebrating, isn’t it?
So why are you crying, Mom?” she said in a bid to calm her down.
“That’s right!
Today is for celebrating my beautiful daughter’s achievement, and celebrating your birthday tomorrow.
Oh my God!
I still have a lot of things to prepare against tomorrow.
Excuse me now, dear child, go find your brother,” Julia requested and made her way outside to instruct the workers.
Camilla shook her head as she glanced at her mother’s departing figure, and she chuckled.
She went up and made her way to her room to freshen up.
Upon reaching her doorway, she smiled as she sensed her brother hiding behind the door.
Pretending as if she had no idea of his presence, she opened the door, and immediately a fifteen-year-old Liam jumped out of his hiding place and jumped in front of the door to scare his big sister.
Camilla gasped dramatically, and they burst out laughing their hearts out.
“You are so silly,” she smiled and ruffled his hair, making him shriek in horror.
“You did not just do that!” he glared at her and jumped on her, tackling her on the bed while they laughed.
Julia, who was coming to get Camilla for a talk, smiled at their antics as her thoughts went back to the day Liam was born.
“Mom, Mom, are you okay?
Does it hurt anywhere?” a five-year-old Camilla questioned her as she looked at her mom’s protruding belly that was making movements.
“I’m fine, dear,” Julia looked at her lovingly.
Knowing how much their lives changed after she and her husband adopted Camilla.
She knew her becoming pregnant might have been because of her daughter’s good luck, as she herself couldn’t believe it after she found out she was pregnant.
She had already lost hope of ever bearing a child of her own till Camilla came into their lives.
“Let’s go for a walk in the garden, dear,” Julia said, and when she made an attempt to stand, a bolt of pain shot through her lower region and she clutched her belly.
“Dear, call your father,” she muttered with much difficulty, panting.
Camilla, who sensed the urgency of the situation, ran out to call her father, who was in the study.
“Dad!
Dad!
Dad!” she shouted as she ran up the stairs.
Mark, who heard her voice, came out of the study and met Camilla, who was panting from running up the stairs.
“What is it, Milla?” Mark asked fondly.
“Mom needs you, Daddy.
I think she is in labour,” she told him what she thought of the situation happening downstairs.
