Third Person POV
Three supernaturals stood at the entrance of the cave waiting impatiently for the last arrival.
The Luna glared at the couple who were talking to each other lovingly.
She hated them because they had what she could never really have.
They had true love.
Sure, she has her alpha but what they have isn’t really love.
They weren’t even mates, just two wolves that rule a pack.
The person they’ve been waiting for finally arrives.
He struts like he owns the place which should be expected from a very high ranking supernatural king.
He usually has a large escort with him but since this was a rather confidential meeting, he comes with only one person.
The young man he came with carried an aura of sophistication.
He had dyed brown hair with the black roots becoming more evident.
His face held no emotion as he stood behind the king and looked over at the other supernatural beings.
“King Dracula, early as always” one of the supernaturals gave a sarcastic greeting.
His silver eyes looked Dracula over in distaste.
His wife matching the look as well.
“I had a few things to take care of”, Dracula retorted as he looked back at his escort whose facial expression had not changed in the slightest.
“May I ask why you brought the boy?” The Luna asked as she looked the young man over with suspicion.
“There are supposed to be no witnesses”.
The young man glares at her for the use of the word ‘boy’.
He could tell that she was probably born in the last few decades.
He has been alive for at least three centuries.
He was no boy and she had no right to call him such.
“He has every right to be here. He is also quite trustworthy”, Dracula tells them.
“I don’t care who is here as long as they don’t ruin my plans” the woman said and her husband nodded along.
“Cassandra is ours to kill” he adds.
“Jason is mine”, the Luna stated.
“No weak alpha can stop me”, she proudly says.
“Though I would have loved to get my hands on Cassandra as well”.
No one noticed the slight flinch in Dracula’s escort as he heard the names of the targets.
“Good then” Dracula nodded in approval “If you do your job right then I wouldn’t have to return”.
The group of supernaturals walk into the cave and there laid an open coffin.
Dracula climbs in and crosses his arms over his chest.
“Take care of things while I’m gone” Dracula instructs his escort.
“Of course father” he replies just as Dracula’s eyes close, starting his maybe eternal slumber.
The young man pulls the lid of the coffin down and steps back.
The witch couple load their power and black mist engulfs the coffin, eternally sealing it unless the prophecy is fulfilled.
“Prince Duke” the young man turns to face the Luna “I hope you will not disclose what you just saw”.
“I would not” Duke replied as he turned back to look at the coffin emotionlessly.
His mind wandered to the two targets.
Those two had both gone through a lot because of him and here he was again, in on another evil scheme.
“The Prince and Princess are in the Blood Moon pack house” the Luna informs out of the blue catching Duke’s attention.
“They’re what?” His surprised voice bounced off the walls of the cave.
“I wouldn’t hesitate to kill any of them if they get in my way” the Luna continues, ignoring his outburst as she makes unwavering eye contact with the now angry prince.
“Murder of royalty comes with consequences” Duke says an octave lower in a warning tone.
“I don’t care. I would get what I want no matter the consequences involved”.
The two challenge each other with their eyes before being interrupted by the king of witches clearing his throat.
“The princess of vampires is a witch so we’ll offer our protection to her. Prince Duke can protect his brother but you do know what he says is true. Killing royalty comes with consequences and if the princess dies, we wouldn’t hesitate to use brute force on your pack”, the king warns.
“And if any of them are harmed in any way, the vampires would not hold back in eliminating the Ice Moon Pack”, Duke snarls angrily.
The Luna looks at the leaders and scoffs, ” fine just keep the prince and princess out of my way and I’ll see what I can do”
“We need to be able to get into Blood Moon pack for our plans to be put in motion” King Alexander informs.
Duke feels goosebumps rise all over his skin at what he’s hearing.
“That wouldn’t be a problem. I can get into Jason’s mind easily” Queen Lucinda boasts as she inspects her nails in an arrogant manner.
“It’s all good then” Alexander nods his head proudly to his wife.
Duke feels the breath knocked out of him and he tries to control his emotions.
He has to warn them somehow but the question was how to get into Blood Moon pack grounds.
If they saw him he probably wouldn’t live another day.
They would likely kill him on sight.
But somehow he needed to get into the pack grounds anyway he possibly could.
He looks back at the sealed coffin, it should be a bit easier now that Dracula is out of the picture.
At least for now.
Cassandra POV
“Preston’s busy right now so I decided to join you guys. I’m so bored!” Caroline groaned right after she catches up to us.
“Sure, why not?” Drake shrugged.
We start to head towards the forest where Drake said I’ll take my flight lessons.
Now that I think about it, ‘flight lessons’ sound like I’m going to learn how to fly a plane.
If I did, it would crash within two milliseconds.
“What about Natalie?” Caroline asks as she looks back in the direction of the training field.
She always seems to want Natalie around.
I think she really admires Natalie, but who can blame her?
“She needs to train the new recruits some more” Anna answered.
“New recruits? I thought those were the pack soldiers?” I ask.
“Aspiring pack soldiers” Caroline informs me.
“If the werewolves at the borders were fully trained pack soldiers, we probably wouldn’t have passed the borders without getting killed” Anna mumbles “we didn’t even have a solid plan” she says the last part and looks over at Drake as if just realizing that they risked their lives by coming here.
“Damn, that was quite the risk” Drake’s eyes also widen as if just realizing he would have indeed been dead.
And they only realize that now.
“Ya think?” Caroline replies sarcastically with an eye roll.
She pulls out a granola bar from her pocket and begins to snack on it.
She’s just lucky that werewolves can’t get fat if not, she probably would be obese.
“The soldiers left for a mission and left the recruits to handle the borders. Of course they left some pack soldiers behind as well but at the time you guys showed up, they had changed shifts so you just got lucky”, Caroline explains.
“What did you guys even risk your lives to find?” I ask as I tilt my head in curiosity.
I’ve always wondered why they showed up out of the blue.
Anna smiles a little, “actually we came for someone”.
“Jason right?” They had been with Jason when I found them so it was probably him.
He must be really special to them in some way.
Besides they seem rather close to him which I consider weird since one of them is a vampire and he’s a literal werewolf alpha.
A very rude werewolf alpha.
“No dummy, it’s you” Caroline pointed out and looked at me like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
“Me?!”
“Yes , you don’t think you’re special enough for us to risk our lives for you?” Anna asked me with a teasing smile.
Actually…
no but they seem to think otherwise.
Anna just shakes her head and smiles but doesn’t say anything else as she looks over at my surprised face with an amused expression.
“Enough chitchat.
Let’s hit the trees” Drake cheers, changing the topic “Cassie can’t hit the skies yet” he mumbled making me scoff in annoyance.
“Yeah” Caroline cheers and discards the pack of the granola bar before running behind a tree.
She comes back out as a very beautiful red wolf that pranced around playfully.
She walked up to us barked and wagged her tail before using her head to nudge me as if telling me to be quick.
“C’mon shift already” Anna urges me as she outstretches her arm and Drake shifts and lands on it.
He is noticeably bigger than me but surprisingly not as much as I thought he would be.
I take a deep breath hoping with everything in me that it wouldn’t hurt as much as it did before.
‘Let’s hit the trees’ Drake cheers again.
I hear his voice in my head just as his eyes glow green, indicating our telepathy.
He takes off almost immediately after saying this and Caroline barks excitedly before immediately following Drake into the forest.
Anna gives me a look that clearly said ‘what are you waiting for’.
I open my wings and begin to flap a bit, making me lift gently off the ground.
I’m pretty sure Drake should be the one teaching me this stuff but I guess he’s a terrible teacher.
I think he’s just using this whole flight lesson thing as an excuse to stretch his own wings.
I flap my wings a bit faster…
a bit too fast.
The next thing I know, I’m flying into the forest at lightning speed and in a very chaotic manner.
I have no idea how to control these death traps that people call wings.
How do birds even do this?
‘Aah!
Help me!
I’m too young to die’ I scream in my head through telepathy while I’m squawking in panic, desperately trying to gain control.
“Dammit, do something!” Anna yelled out from somewhere below me.
Drake comes from the side and tries to grab me but I panic and turn the opposite direction causing me to fly right into a leafless tree.
Drake lands right under the tree and shifts back.
“When I said ‘hit the trees’ I didn’t mean literally, you idiot!” He scolds while looking up at the tree.
‘Sorry, I didn’t know’ I answer sarcastically through telepathy.
Anna appears behind Drake in a matter of seconds with wind surrounding her.
It seemed like she used her wind powers to boost her speed a bit.
That’s so cool.
“Can you get down?” She asks.
‘Actually, I’m too scared to get down’ I answer honestly as I look at the long way down.
Drake relays what I say causing Anna to sigh.
“Alright then” she says and waves her hand slightly.
A gust of wind blows, pushes me off the tree branch and I squawk in surprise.
I find myself landing on something soft which I soon realize is Caroline’s fur.
I get off her before changing back to my human form.
“Thanks” I mumble in embarrassment as I felt my cheeks slightly heat up.
Caroline licks the back of my palm as if reassuring me it’s okay.
I pat her head and scratch the fur behind her ears which she seems to enjoy.
“I guess we can do this another-” Drake is interrupted the moment the moment I shift.
The thing is I didn’t initiate the shift knowingly, it just happened.
Before I can even comprehend what I’m doing, I take off.
Though my movements are chaotic, I still somehow manage to fly in one direction and it just felt like that’s were I needed to be.
Like some kind of weird magnet was pulling me in that direction.
I’m flying in full speed but suddenly crash when I collide with something or…
someone.
I immediately shift back to my human side due to shock and end up on the ground on top of the person.
My lips are inches apart from Jason’s and his arms are wrapped around my waist.
I gasp in shock and embarrassment my cheeks turning red as a tomato.
“S-sorry” I stutter as I get off him.
He doesn’t seem to notice the situation we’re in.
He gets up as well but doesn’t even spare me a single glance.
It almost seems like he’s trapped in his own world and I wonder for a second if he even knows I’m there.
“Hello?” I wave my hands frantically in his face to get his attention.
“Earth to Jason”.
He blinks a few times and looks over at me as if just noticing me.
“Oh Cassandra, what are you doing here?” He asks with a raised brow just as Preston comes up behind him.
“Yeah, aren’t you meant to be out of sight” Preston sneered.
“Damn! How the hell did you fly so fast?” Anna asks out of breath.
She’s crouched down panting as she leans unto a tree for support.
Drake is watching me with curious eyes while Caroline just struts her way to Preston’s side.
He crouches down and pets her head.
He ruffled her fur a bit before giving her a warm hug and a peck on the nose.
Caroline’s tail wags from the show of affection.
The way Preston acts with Caroline is completely different with everyone else.
It’s beyond obvious that he loves her.
“Why is she here?” Jason turns to Drake.
His voice is emotionless and almost robotic.
No one else seems to realize this.
Just me.
“Why shouldn’t I be here?” I ask in confusion.
Jason doesn’t even look at me he looks at nothing in particular, his eyes held a lost look in them.
” ‘Cause Jason doesn’t want you here.
There’s a bonfire tonight and I guess he is embarrassed to be seen with you” Preston tells me with a wide, cocky smirk.
Jason suddenly seems to come back to reality.
He nudges Preston a bit and sends him a glare.
“It’s not because I’m embarrassed to be seen with her” he growls which seems somewhat uncharacteristic.
He’s always kind and friendly- to his friends anyway, especially to Preston even when he snitches on him sometimes.
He and Preston seem pretty close so his behavior right now confuses me.
“Then why?” Anna asks him.
“She’s a vampire. No werewolf would want to see a fucking vampire in a pack event” his words and tone were hostile but they don’t seem to notice.
It was almost like they were hearing him in a different way, or as if they were hearing him say something else.
I flinched at his words.
“Don’t worry about that” Anna assured while waving a dismissive hand “I gave her a potion to hide her supernatural identity”.
Jason’s eyes flash gold and for some time he seems completely normal before they turn blue again and he’s closed off all over again.
What’s happening?
“Whatever”, Jason scoffs as he walks the opposite direction from us.
Preston gives Caroline a peck on the nose before following after Jason.
When I’m sure they’re out of earshot I turn to the siblings, “Did you guys notice anything off about Jason?”
“Uh no” Anna and Drake say in unison while Caroline shakes her head, no.
“How didn’t you notice? He clearly wasn’t himself” I point out.
Drake just laughs it off, “either you’re just paranoid or you hit your head when you flew into that tree”, I glared at him.
That definitely wasn’t the case.
“Maybe she’s just worried about her mate and it’s making her paranoid”, Anna giggles.
Caroline runs behind a tree with her clothes in her mouth, probably to shift back probably so she can join in this silly argument.
It’s annoying that they say I’m paranoid.
Didn’t anybody else see it?
it was so obvious.
That’s when my mind actually catches the first thing Anna said.
“Wait, who told you we were mates?”
“He did” Drake says with a shrug.
I found myself being surprised by the fact.
I didn’t think he’d openly call me his mate ’cause let’s be honest, none of us want that.
Now that was what I was expecting.
I wasn’t thrilled by the fact either.
I have no idea what being mated entails- especially to the alpha that tried to kill me- and I also don’t know how to go about being Luna of the Blood Moon pack.
I mean, I’m a vampire for crying out loud and Blood Moon pack is the most powerful pack in the supernatural world.
“It’s not his fault” Drake mumbles and he looks a bit sad.
Before I could ask anything, Anna cuts in “we have a bonfire to get to. Let’s get ready”.
“Bonfire?” I ask as we start making our way back to the pack house.
Anna explains that Jason decided to throw a bonfire as a small celebration for the return of the pack soldiers and the pack members would be there.
It was a small welcome party of sorts.
“Is that why they are more wolves around than usual?” I decide to ask just to be sure.
“That’s because school and businesses are closed today” Caroline answered “it’s some kind of pack holiday to celebrate our soldiers and the pack house is like a public place for pack members so they came there”.
We get to the pack house after a few minutes walk.
“I just realized I don’t know where you guys stay”, I tell them.
“They’re apartments on the top floor for the alpha, beta and gamma. I live in one of them with Preston”, Caroline explains.
“Anna and I have rooms on the same floor as you”, Drake tells me.
I nod and we head to our different rooms.
I’ve never gone to a bonfire or many celebrations in general so I’m not sure what to wear.
The outfit I already had on was stained with dirt after falling over on the forest ground.
I pick out a pink hoodie and a pair of jeans with a pair of white converse and head to the mirror to brush my semi tangled hair.
I look in the mirror to see the locket that my father gave me on my tenth birthday with the name ‘Cassie’ engraved into it.
As I look at my reflection longer it seems to change a bit.
I see what looks like an older version on me with black hair and silver eyes as well but I’m very sure it wasn’t me.
I step back and rub my eyes to make sure I wasn’t seeing things.
The reflection is back to normal and I concluded that I was indeed seeing things.
I grab a coat and pull it over my hoodie before heading downstairs.
It’s going to be cold tonight and I really don’t want to freeze to death.
I meet up with Anna, Caroline and Drake and we head for the bonfire.
It turns out it’s actually being held at the large backyard of the pack house.
A lot of wolves are around talking and eating some snack or the other.
I suddenly feel self conscious.
What if the potion wears off and they find out I’m a vampire?
Would they kill me?
I don’t think Jason would let that happen though.
I don’t know how I know that but I do.
Caroline immediately runs off to find Preston and Natalie waves us over when she sees us.
She is standing with some men and I guess they are the pack soldiers.
“Guys these are my friends Anna, Drake and Cassandra” she introduced.
The men give us friendly polite smiles.
“It’s nice to meet you. I’ve heard so much about the vampire and witch that are close with the alpha, beta and gamma” one of the soldiers shake Drake’s hand firmly before moving to Anna.
“And it’s nice to meet you too Cassandra” the soldier shook my hand as well.
I’m not used to meeting new people and just manage a small smile.
I look between the soldiers and don’t notice any other female apart from Natalie.
“Is Natalie the only female pack soldier?” I’m a bit curious.
“Yes actually” one of the soldiers answered “not many females step up for the job and it was actually against the rules to have a female soldier. Natalie was the first female to even attempt to join the soldiers”.
And she ended up becoming the Gamma.
“That’s so brave of her”, I gush.
It must take a lot of courage to step up like that.
Natalie is definitely someone I admire.
“So we’re just going to talk about me like I’m not just standing right here” Natalie says as she gives us a pointed look making us laugh.
Meanwhile, Jason goes up to the makeshift stage with Preston and gives a speech about how loyal and courageous the pack soldiers are.
He thanks them for their hard work in protecting the pack.
He congratulates Natalie on being the first ever female soldier and Gamma in Blood Moon pack.
While he gives the speech, I notice his eyes continuously flicker from blue to gold and back to blue.
Again, no one else seems to notice this and it confuses me.
Something tells me I’m not just seeing things and that something is seriously wrong.
Jason and Preston step down from the stage and just as I’m about to head in their direction someone pulls me back.
“Let’s make s’mores” Caroline cheered as she pulled me towards the fire.
The soldiers sat around telling exaggerated stories of their previous missions.
Pack members sat around roasting marshmallows and talking about everything under the moon.
The kids waved around their glow sticks while they ran around.
It felt somewhat warm like an actual family.
I remove my overly burnt marshmallows from the fire and begin to make the s’mores.
I’m not sure what I’m making is even edible and I know exactly who to give it to.
It’s the thought that counts.
I spot Jason standing on his own looking a little lost.
I head over to him with the very badly made s’mores.
“Hey Jason, I got you s’mores”.
His hands are in his pocket as he slowly turns and smiles at me before looking down at the s’mores.
“Thanks”.
I immediately realize something the moment he turns to look at me and grabs the inedible snack , “you’re not Jason”.
He now has the s’mores in his mouth and looks as if he’s considering whether or not to spit it out or just swallow it.
He ends up going for the latter as if not to hurt my feelings and it was then I was sure that he wasn’t Jason.
“Observant” he points out as his golden eyes meet mine.
He holds my gaze for a second and I feel my heart beat faster.
“Who are you?” I whisper in confusion and he leans forward as if examining my face.
I want to lean back but I don’t.
I just continue to stare into his eyes.
“I’m Jackson” he answers as he pulls away.
“And you’re pretty” he tells me with a wink.
Definitely not Jason.
“No, I’m Cassandra” I huff.
He gives me a half amused and half serious look, “you aren’t funny”.
I feel somehow at ease with him without even knowing who he was and that made me slightly worried.
“Judging by the look on your face, I’ll say you still don’t understand” I nod and he lets out an exasperated sigh but a small smile played on his lips.
“I’m Jason’s wolf”.
The moment he says that the eyes turn from gold to blue.
His eyes have a distant look in them again and I can see uncertainty in them.
He looks at me as if he wants to say something but then immediately dashed towards the forest behind the pack house.
I don’t know why but I feel panic and immediately chase after him.
He picks up the pace and I do the same.
He seems to be running with an aim but somehow it seems like he doesn’t want to.
“Jason!” I scream out but he doesn’t show any signs of stopping or slowing down.
I leap over a fallen tree trunk and unexpectedly shift into a raven.
I start to fly after him at full speed but I don’t find it difficult to fly in the slightest.
When I’m directly above him, I shift back into my human form causing me to land directly on him.
I’m straddling him and immediately grab his chin forcing him to look at me.
His eyes don’t hold that distant look anymore and instead look over at me with shock.
“What’s wrong?”
