A/N: Hey everyone! Firstly, thank you for the kind support and I’m relieved to see people enjoying what I write. This is just some basic information regarding the rules of ABO in this story. Initially, I wrote this story for fun to enjoy with my friends, but it wasn’t until later I decided to upload it on AO3 and SH. I took ideas from different sources to set up the ABOverse in this fiction.
I should’ve done this earlier since not everyone is familiar with the concept of ABOverse, but oh well! There’s some extra information to understand things better.
ALPHA RACE | 20% Population
Physique: They are notably taller and stronger. They carry a natural magnetism in their appearance, one that tends to draw both omegas and betas without effort.
Personality: Alphas are born leaders. At their best, they are assertive, confident, and self-possessed. At their best, these qualities make them fierce and devoted protectors. Confidence can become arrogance. Assertiveness can become control. Pride can become cruelty.
An alpha unchecked tends toward dominance for its own sake, stubborn, possessive, and in darker cases, abusive. Without restraint, they turn controlling, possessive, stubborn, and capable of worse.
Pheromones:
An alpha's scent is an extension of who they are: heavy, grounded, and nature-like. The specific character of the scent shifts with personality: a composed alpha may carry something cool and steady, like pine or stone, while a volatile one might exude something sharper, more aggressive.
BETA RACE | 60% population
Physique: Betas are physically unremarkable by design. Neither the imposing stature of an alpha nor the particular delicacy often associated with omegas. They appear average.
Personality: They are compromising where alphas are rigid, and grounded where omegas are feeling. Their personalities strike a balance between alpha drive and omega sensitivity, which makes them instinctively likable to both.
Pheromones: Betas carry no distinctive scent. What little they emit is subtle enough to go unnoticed under ordinary circumstances. They are similarly insensitive to the pheromones of others unless the signal is amplified: during an omega's heat, an alpha's rut, or moments of intense emotion, what was previously imperceptible.
OMEGA RACE | 20% Population
Physique: Male omegas tend toward smaller, slighter builds. Female omegas, by contrast, are physically indistinguishable from beta women.
Personality: Omegas are natural caregivers. Gentle, warm, and instinctively attuned to the needs of those around them, they bring a quality of presence that neither alphas nor betas quite replicate. That same selflessness is also their vulnerability. Their sensitivity tipping into self-neglect, their gentleness into submission. Low self-worth is a quiet, persistent struggle for many.
Pheromones: An omega's scent reflects who they are: sweet, fruity, or floral, with a quality that is instinctively soothing. It carries a lightness to it, something calm and unhurried, that puts those nearby at rest without them quite knowing why.
PHEROMONES [Alpha/Omega only]
Every alpha and omega carries a signature scent, an invisible reflection of who they are. Alphas and omegas find each other's scent instinctively alluring. Prolonged or concentrated exposure to one another's pheromones can trigger heat in an omega or rut in an alpha. This chapter was copied from novelping.com without permission.
Betas are insensitive to pheromones and will only detect them when the concentration is unusually strong during an omega's heat, an alpha's rut, or moments of intense emotion.
Emotion, notably, shapes the scent itself:
Positive emotions: joy, affection, love. It sweetens and intensifies the fragrance, making it more alluring to those attuned to it.
Negative emotions: anger, hatred, grief, irritation. It sours it, producing a scent that reads as bitter, dulled, or faintly rotten.
TEMPORARY MARKING
A temporary mark is a light bite applied to the back of the nape, or crook of the neck. It does not constitute a bond. Instead, it serves as a social signal, an indication that the marked individual is taken or currently in a relationship. It is most commonly understood as a gesture of reassurance, protection, or claim.
Scent Change: The effect of a temporary mark differs depending on who delivers it.
Alpha marking Omega: A subtle blending of scents occurs. The omega may carry a faint trace of the alpha's scent for a period of time.
Omega marking Alpha: No blending of scents occurs. The mark itself takes time to fade, typically lasting anywhere from a few days to a week depending on how hard they bite.
PERMANENT MARKING / MATING BITE
Permanent Blending:
A permanent mark is a deeper bite into the omega's scent gland, typically at the nape or the crook of the neck. Unlike a temporary mark, it is a complete and lasting claim between mates. The nature of the bond matters. A mutual bond, formed willingly between both parties, is deep and stable. A forced bond is inherently unstable and carries the risk of lasting harm to one or both individuals.
Scent Change:
Upon bonding, the alpha's scent is permanently imprinted into the omega, resulting in a full and irreversible blending of pheromones. A fusion rather than a dominance of either individual.
Once a bond is established, the omega's body will no longer respond to other alphas. Other alphas may instinctively sense the claim and find themselves naturally unattracted toward the bonded omega.
Alpha-Omega Pairing:
A mating bond between an alpha and omega is considered a lifetime commitment. It is the deepest and most permanent connection two individuals of opposing secondary genders can form.
BONDING
Alpha-Omega Bond: A bond is a deeply instinctive connection, biological and psychological in equal measure. It requires a completed mark upon the scent gland at the neck or nape. Once formed, it is considered permanent.
Alpha-Beta Bond: Unlike the instinct-forged pull of an alpha-omega bond, an alpha-beta bond is chosen. It is grounded less in biology and more in emotion, trust, and social connection. Making it quieter and more meaningful. Read the latest chapters at g.com.
HEAT [Omega only]
An omega's first heat typically arrives between the ages of 15 and 20, marking the beginning of their fertility. It signals biological readiness to mate with an alpha. Following the first heat, cycles recur every three months and last approximately one week. During this period, the omega is in their most fertile state and pregnancy is highly likely.
RUT [Alpha only]
An alpha's first rut typically arrives between the ages of 13 and 18, marking the onset of sexual maturity. Their rut is largely tied to energy accumulation. Their energy builds naturally over time, and once it reaches a threshold, rut becomes imminent. This can be easily managed through consistent strenuous activities. It is generally encouraged that all alphas maintain some form of regular physical activity.
HEAT AND RUT SUPPRESSANTS [Alpha/Omega only]
Omega Use:
Suppressants are most commonly used by omegas to manage their heat cycles. When taken correctly, suppressants allow omegas to function normally in their daily lives without disruption. Side effects are uncommon, though some omegas may experience them depending on individual sensitivity.
Alpha Use:
Alphas rarely require suppressants under normal circumstances, as rut can generally be managed through physical exertion alone. When used, it is typically reserved for emergencies. It is most commonly when an alpha finds themselves in close proximity to an omega in heat. In such instances, suppressants serve to prevent rut from being triggered by external pheromones.
SOULMATE
A soulmate is someone a person is biologically and fatefully destined to bond with. They are drawn together through pheromones, instinct, and an emotional resonance that can’t be explained. They are considered ideal partners in every sense: genetically, psychologically, and spiritually.
Northland Society:
Northland's society holds soulmates in a particular regard. Social standing does not matter between soulmates. It is a widely held belief that soulmates are bound together by divine will, born as one another's true partner. No social convention is considered justification enough to stand in the way of what fate has already decided.
A/N: Edited some information that can be useful for first-timers. Reminder, this is based on the setting of my world. My ABOverse will certainly be different from how others set up their ABOverse.
