Amara’s POV

“I’m looking forward to it.” The words dripped with venom as Lydia glided away, her entourage of pureblood sycophants trailing behind like shadows.

Their designer gowns rustled against the marble floors of the grand estate, each step radiating their collective disdain like cold mist off winter stone.Full novel: Claimed by His Blood Rival, Rejected by My Mate — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

I remained perfectly still until their figures disappeared completely around the ornate corner before making my move.

The suffocating atmosphere of the monthly blood court had left me feeling trapped, so I’d planned to take the moonlit path through the gardens that usually cleared my head.

But somehow my feet carried me in the opposite direction, straight toward the Pendleton clan manor.

Standing in the manicured courtyard, I stared up at the imposing Gothic structure.

Mist was practically vibrating in the depths of my mind, her obsession with Prince Killian pulling me forward like an invisible chain.

I couldn’t fight her ancient vampire instincts, even when common sense screamed at me to turn around and flee.

The heavy brass doorbell resonated through the vast halls when I pressed it.

Within moments, the same blood servant who’d answered before appeared, but her entire demeanor had shifted.

Gone was the cautious hesitation from our previous encounters.

She welcomed me inside immediately and guided me toward the private library without question, her movements swift and deferential.

Killian stood alone beside a massive mahogany table, an ancient tome spread open before him.

Several more leather-bound volumes lay scattered around, creating a landscape of scholarly chaos.

His brow was furrowed in concentration, green eyes scanning the yellowed pages with intensity.

“Hey,” I announced my presence.

His head snapped up, surprise flickering across his aristocratic features.

“Didn’t expect to see you here.

Thought you’d avoid the manor unless absolutely necessary.”

“Guess you thought wrong.”

“Apparently so.

Come in.” He gestured toward the expansive room with its towering shelves.

I stepped inside and my jaw nearly dropped.

The library stretched impossibly high, with floor-to-ceiling cases packed with countless volumes of vampire lore and history.

A rolling ladder provided access to the upper levels, and moonlight streamed through stained glass windows depicting ancient blood rituals.

“Bigger than you imagined, right?” Killian’s voice held a hint of amusement, though his expression remained guarded.

Though I’m surprised to find you buried in here instead of handling clan politics.”

“Something bothering you?” His emerald eyes studied my face intently, and I felt the familiar tingle of his mental probe testing my shields.

“Why would you think that?”

“You look different.

Angry, maybe frustrated.” He set down the ancient text he’d been holding, giving me his full attention.

“Nothing I haven’t dealt with before.

Comes with being a half-blood in pureblood territory.” I shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant while Mist stirred restlessly in my consciousness.

“Someone giving you trouble?

I could handle it.” The offer came out protective, almost possessive, and I caught the flash of crimson in his irises as his vampire spirit Caius pushed forward.

“And raise suspicions?

People would wonder why the Prince suddenly cares about defending a mixed-blood nobody.” The reality of our impossible situation hung between us like a barrier of silver.

“Right.

Good point.” His expression darkened, jaw tightening with frustration.

“So what’s all this research about?” I nodded toward the books covering every available surface.

They all seemed ancient, with similar Gothic lettering suggesting a focused search through clan archives.

“Trying to track down information about an old blood treaty.

Supposedly my ancestors made some kind of agreement with a witch coven long ago.

Most people consider it clan legend now, but these grimoires might hold the truth.” He gestured toward the mystical volumes.

“Would you honor it if the treaty’s legitimate?”

“I’d have to.

My blood oath has to mean something.”

“Good answer.” I nodded approvingly, feeling a grudging respect despite everything between us.

“Surprised you feel that way, considering what my father put you through.”

“What he put both of us through,” I corrected firmly.

Killian’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t argue the point.

The previous Prince’s cruelty had damaged us both, though in different ways.

“If this treaty exists, I’ll need to arrange a meeting with these witches.”

“Best of luck with that endeavor.”

“What do you mean?”

“Witches aren’t exactly easy to locate, are they? Find the original chapter at novelpin‌g.com.

I’ve never encountered one personally, but then again, I’ve barely left clan territory.” The lie rolled off my tongue smoothly.

No way was I mentioning Zarek’s unexpected visit to my shabby apartment, or the strange magical energy I’d felt around him.

“Maybe these texts will provide leads.

Want to help me search?

There’s a lot of material to cover.”

“Sure, why not?”

We settled onto the plush velvet couch with different volumes, methodically searching for any mention of supernatural treaties or coven names.

The work required patience, scanning page after page of archaic script and faded ink that spoke of blood bonds and ancient magic.

Time seemed to blur together as we worked in surprisingly comfortable silence.

I was deep in a particularly detailed account of inter-species alliances when I felt Killian’s intense stare burning into me.

Looking up, I found him watching me with predatory focus, his research forgotten in his lap.

The hunger in his green eyes made my breath catch.

Both Caius and Mist were pushing forward in our minds, creating an electric tension that made the air itself seem to shimmer.

The atmosphere felt charged, like the moment before lightning strikes during a blood storm.

Without warning, Killian reached out and cupped my face with his cool palm.

He drew me closer, and then his lips were on mine.

The kiss sent shockwaves through my entire system, every nerve ending coming alive at once.

It felt like I’d been existing in shadow until this moment of blazing connection.

He shifted to his knees and gently pressed me back against the velvet cushions, his powerful body covering mine as the kiss deepened.

Mist was practically singing with joy in my mind, demanding more of this incredible blood bond recognition.

She wasn’t alone in that desire.

Every point where our bodies touched generated sparks of supernatural energy.

This was what I’d been missing, what I’d been craving without even realizing it.

Killian’s lips moved against mine with a hunger that matched my own, and I lost myself completely in the sensation of finally, truly being claimed.

The world outside the library ceased to exist.

There was only this moment, this blood-deep connection, this overwhelming rightness that made everything else fade into insignificance.
