Luna woke up peacefully in her room.
For a moment, she simply stared at the ceiling, trying to remember where she was.Everything around her still felt strange.
The walls, the furniture, the curtains, even the bed beneath her felt unfamiliar.
Yet somehow, being in this house gave her a warmth she couldn’t explain.
This was her family’s home.
At least, that was what everyone kept telling her and somehow, a small part of her wanted to believe it.
She turned her head toward the wardrobe.
Her eyes immediately fell on the necklace she had found there the previous night. The moment she saw it, something strange stirred inside her chest.
It looked familiar.Far too familiar.
She reached for it and held it in her palm, studying the delicate chain and the pendant.
Why did this necklace feel as though she had held it countless times before?
She couldn’t remember.
With a quiet sigh, Luna placed it back inside the wardrobe before heading to the bathroom.
After freshening up, she was about to leave when she noticed a cup of coffee waiting outside.
Her younger brother stood there with a bright smile.
“Good morning, Luna.”
He gently handed her the coffee.
“I made this for you.”
Luna stared at him.
Her brother had never seemed particularly close to her in the memories she could access.
Yet here he was, smiling warmly and treating her as though she were someone precious.
“Thank you,” she said slowly.
He smiled again.
“You’re welcome.
You should drink it while it’s still hot.”
Luna watched him walk away.
Something about his kindness bothered her.She couldn’t explain why.
There was no obvious reason to distrust him, yet something deep inside her warned her not to relax completely around him.
But another part of her enjoyed the feeling.
For the first time in what felt like forever, someone was treating her gently.
And she wanted to believe she was finally home.
She took a sip of the coffee.
It was warm and comforting.
And somehow, it made her feel less alone.
After finishing it, Luna walked downstairs.
The moment she entered the living room, she stopped.
Two police officers were sitting across from her parents. Her eyes widened.
“You’re here?”
The officers stood.
“Good morning, Luna.”
She looked from them to her parents.
“I thought you were only coming to check on me.”
One of the officers exchanged a brief glance with his partner.
“We did come to check on you,” he said.
“But there are still some things concerning your case that we need to discuss with your family.”
Luna slowly sat down.
“Is something wrong?”
The room suddenly became quiet.
The officer hesitated before speaking.
“Luna, there’s something you need to know about what happened to you.”
Her heart began beating faster.
“What?”
The officer looked at her carefully.
“You were sexually assaulted.”
The words struck her like a blow.
Luna froze.
For several seconds, she couldn’t even breathe.
“What…?”
Her voice came out barely above a whisper.
“You said I was…”
She couldn’t finish.
The officer nodded solemnly.
“We have evidence from the investigation that indicates you were assaulted before you were found.”
Luna stared at him in disbelief.
“No.”
Her head slowly shook.
“No…
That can’t be true.” She pressed a hand against her chest. She couldn’t imagine it.
She couldn’t remember it yet somehow, the thought of it filled her with a terrible fear she couldn’t explain.
“Why didn’t anyone tell me?”
The officer frowned.
“We assumed you had already been informed.”
Luna looked toward her parents.
Her mother immediately stood and rushed toward her.
“My daughter…”
She wrapped her arms around Luna.
“It’s okay.
You’re safe now.”
But Luna couldn’t bear it.
The tears came suddenly.
She pushed away from her mother and ran upstairs.
“Luna!”
She ignored her mother’s voice.
She rushed into her bedroom, slammed the door shut, and collapsed onto the bed.
Her body shook as she cried.
She couldn’t understand what had happened to her.
She couldn’t remember the attack.
She couldn’t remember the people who had hurt her but knowing that someone had violated her was enough to make her feel broken.
“Why don’t I remember?”
She buried her face in the pillow.
“Why?”
Downstairs, the atmosphere had completely changed.Luna’s younger brother stood silently near the wall.
The pity on his face was difficult to read.He looked genuinely disturbed but there was something else in his expression…Nervousness.
His eyes repeatedly moved toward the police officers one of them noticed.
The officer slowly turned his gaze around the living room.
Then he looked at the family.
“We need to go over everything again.”
Mr.
Miller immediately wiped his eyes.
“Of course.”
“Where was Luna on the morning she disappeared?”
“She left for work,” Mr.
Miller answered quickly.
“She told us she was going to work that morning.”
“And after that?”
We waited for her.”
His voice cracked.
“We kept waiting, but she never came home.”
The officer watched him carefully.
“When did you report her missing?”
Mr.
Miller hesitated.
“We…
we didn’t know she was missing immediately.”
“Why?”
“We thought she might have stayed somewhere else.”
The officer’s expression hardened slightly.
“And you didn’t find that unusual?”
Mr.
Miller shook his head.
“We trusted our daughter.” His eyes became watery.
“Then one day, we saw her picture in the media.
It said she was missing.”
He lowered his head.
“We were devastated.”
His wife nodded quickly.
“Yes.
We were looking everywhere for her.”
The story sounded convincing almost too convincing. The officers exchanged another glance.
They had questioned the family before, but something still didn’t sit right.
There was no direct evidence connecting the Millers to Luna’s assault.
Nothing they could use.
Nothing strong enough to accuse them.
Still, the officer wasn’t satisfied.
“Did Luna ever tell you she was having problems with anyone?”
“No,” her father answered immediately.
“Did she have enemies?”
“Not that we know of.”
“Did she ever mention wanting to leave home?”
Mr.
Miller paused.
“No.”
The officer studied his face.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
Then Mr.
Miller suddenly lowered his voice.
“Officer, there’s something you should consider.”
The officer looked at him.
“What?”
“The man who found my daughter.”
Silence filled the room.
“Harrison Whitmore.”
Mr.
Miller’s voice trembled.
“We don’t know what happened between that man and my daughter.”
The officer frowned.
“You have no evidence against him.”
“I know.”
Mr.
Miller wiped his tears.
“But my daughter was found badly injured, and that man was the one who had her afterward.”
His voice became more emotional.
“What if he was the one who assaulted her?”
The younger brother lowered his eyes.
The officer noticed.
“We’ve already investigated Mr.
Whitmore.”
Mr.
Miller quickly continued.
“But he never told my daughter that she had been assaulted.”
The officer’s expression changed.
“He told her other things, but somehow this important information was kept from her.”
He looked toward the staircase where Luna had disappeared.
“My daughter deserves to know the truth.”
The officer remained silent.
There was something strange about Mr.
Miller’s sudden suspicion.
Especially because he seemed determined to shift their attention toward Harrison.
“Mr.
Miller,” the officer finally said, “we are investigating every possibility.”
He paused.
“But we cannot accuse someone simply because you suspect them.”
The officer leaned back.
“We already know who Harrison Whitmore is.”
His partner nodded.
“He’s one of the most prominent businessmen in the country.
His movements, security records, hospital records, and other information have already been checked.”
Mr.
Miller’s expression stiffened.
“That doesn’t mean he’s innocent.”
“No,” the officer replied calmly.
The officers continued asking questions about Luna’s disappearance.Where she had gone,
Who she had spoken to,what she had been wearing and whether she had received any threats.
The Miller family answered every question but despite their convincing story, the officers couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing.
Something important,Something the family wasn’t telling them.
Finally, one officer stood.
“We’ll continue the investigation.”
Mr.
Miller nodded.
“Of course.”
As the officers walked toward the door, the younger brother remained frozen in place. His hands were trembling slightly.
One of the officers glanced back at him.
Their eyes met for a brief moment, the boy’s face went pale. Then he quickly looked away.
The officer said nothing but he remembered that expression.
Upstairs, Luna continued crying alone.
Weeping bitterly….
The officers walk out but found something strange about the one of their neighbor….an old woman who frantically glared at them.
At first they brushed it off but it seems the woman glaring at them wants to communicate something important to them.
The officer just looked away and turned to their car and leave.
The woman still persistently glaring at them while they watch her confused through the car mirror.
Their instincts kept pushing on one thing….
“There’s more to the case than meet the eyes”….
