While Jiang Wan was cooking dinner, she received a call from He Yingtong.

She turned off the stove and went to her room to answer the phone.

Jiang Wan held her phone, not knowing what to say.

Right before hanging up, she asked where He Yingtong was, then quickly said to her, “Wait for me a bit.”

She sent Wen Jin a message, then grabbed her keys and went out.

Wei Jiyuan’s case hadn’t concluded yet. The process would take two or three months, then sentencing after that. The lawyer had already told He Yingtong the worst possible outcome.

He Yingtong hadn’t asked the lawyer to pass on any message to Wei Jiyuan. She only sent a meal in, then sat smoking on the steps in front of the police station.

When she finished that pack of cigarettes, she decided to leave this place.

When Jiang Wan rushed over, He Yingtong was still sitting on the steps, with over a dozen cigarette butts scattered on the ground.

“Hey.” He Yingtong lifted her head and greeted her lightly.

Jiang Wan walked over. “Let me treat you to dinner.”

“Sure.” He Yingtong smiled, stood up, and patted the dust off her back. “Let’s go to the street food stall then.”

The night street stall was packed. The two of them ordered over a hundred yuan’s worth of barbecue, and He Yingtong got two bottles of beer. She asked Jiang Wan, “Drink?”

He Yingtong clinked bottle mouths with her. “He deserved it. No one else is to blame. It wasn’t your fault either. So, don’t think too much.”

She raised her head and drank a big gulp.

Jiang Wan didn’t speak, just followed her and took a sip.

He Yingtong picked up a skewer of meat and took a bite. “I’m pretty selfish.”

She raised her head and drank again. “After something like that happened, I even begged you not to tell anyone. Thinking back on it now, I feel so shameless.”

Jiang Wan also took a sip of beer.

She had a lot she wanted to say, but He Yingtong spoke quickly, as if the words had been bottled up inside her for too long and only now could be poured out.

“I actually feel so embarrassed to face you.” He Yingtong laughed while wiping her face, her fingertips wet. Her lips were curled in a smile, but tears were sliding down her cheeks. “I thought you wouldn’t even answer my call. But not only did you answer, you even treated me to dinner.”

As she laughed, she started to cry. “I so wish I had never met you…”

Jiang Wan silently drank her beer.

He Yingtong kept crying. “Jiang Wan, I’ve always thought of you as my best sister. I don’t want to lose Wei Jiyuan, and I don’t want to lose you. But… how did things end up like this…”

Jiang Wan lifted her head to glance at the dark sky. She wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes and said softly, “I’m sorry.”

Yes, how did things end up like this?

She also wanted to know.

He Yingtong could really hold her liquor. She drank three bottles of beer, and when leaving, her steps were still steady.

Jiang Wan only drank one bottle. When she took a cab home, she felt fine. But as soon as she reached her door, the world began spinning, collapsing in on her. She fumbled with the key for ages before finally opening the door. New chapters come out on g.com first.

The living room was dim and unlit. She staggered into the bathroom, stripped herself bare, and turned on the shower.

The smell of barbecue mixed with smoke and alcohol had dulled her sense of smell. She knew she reeked and only wanted to wash it all away.

When she came out of the shower, she suddenly realized she had forgotten to bring clean clothes again.

She tugged a bath towel and wrapped it around herself.

But then she suddenly remembered the promise she made to Wen Jin that morning. She knocked on Wen Jin’s door, her voice softened with the drunken moisture of alcohol.

“Wen Jin.”

“I just finished showering.”

Her voice carried a hint of drunkenness, but her words were clear:

“Do you want to see?”

The man sitting in front of the computer took off his headset. When he turned around, he saw Jiang Wan wrapped in a towel, leaning against the doorframe, her face flushed, her fair skin exposed to the air.

His voice inexplicably grew husky.

“Yes.”

After saying that, he closed the livestream and shut down the computer.

He didn’t know that before he closed it, nearly ten million fans were frantically flooding the chat:

【I heard a woman’s voice!】

【Ajin has a girlfriend?!!!!】

【If I didn’t mishear, that woman just said she finished showering… ahhhhh! My husband has a girlfriend?! Why didn’t I know?!】

【Ahhhhhhh son!!! How did you get a girlfriend so fast! Mom doesn’t allow it!】
