The room lights flicked on with a sharp click.
Bai Yunxia was awakened by a man’s scream, staring blankly at the man who had jumped off the bed as she let out a piercing shriek: “Ahhh—”
Mo Du practically launched himself off the bed, backing away several steps in succession. “Calm down, calm down, stop screaming first!”
He quickly scanned the room—this used to be his bedroom, but now there was no trace of his former space left. Everything had been replaced with feminine belongings.
He’d heard his brother had gotten married.
But why weren’t they sharing a room after getting married?
Mo Du explained, “This used to be my room.”
The face before him bore some resemblance to Mo Yanzhou. Being able to enter Cloud Creek Valley unimpeded and access this room confirmed this must indeed be Mo Yanzhou’s younger brother.
Hearing the commotion, Mo Yanzhou casually threw on a black robe and came over. Upon entering, he saw Mo Du hurriedly putting on clothes while Bai Yunxia curled up in bed, wrapped from neck to toe in a thin summer quilt with only her head visible. Her dewy eyes were filled with fear and panic, trembling visibly—clearly frightened.
A ripple passed through Mo Yanzhou’s gaze, his handsome brows slightly furrowing.
“Brother.” Mo Du rushed to Mo Yanzhou’s side. “Didn’t you and sister-in-law just get married? Why are you sleeping separately right after the wedding? And you took my room… where am I supposed to sleep when I visit?”
“This is the largest room besides the master bedroom.” Mo Yanzhou said expressionlessly. “There’s a guest room downstairs.”
“That’s not the point! The point is why aren’t you two sharing a room! You made me scare sister-in-law.”
He genuinely hadn’t known his brother and sister-in-law slept in separate rooms.
“I’m going to tell Grandpa and Grandma. They’ll be so disappointed, Brother you…”
“Get out!” Mo Yanzhou’s voice turned cold.
Mo Du’s attempted threat was cut off before it even began.
After their parents passed away, Mo Du had been raised by his older brother. The eldest brother acting as father was even stricter than their parents had been.
Mo Du wasn’t afraid of his grandparents, but he feared Mo Yanzhou.
He had originally hoped that with a sister-in-law now, she could help keep his brother in check. But it seemed sister-in-law’s presence couldn’t temper his brother at all.
She hadn’t even won his brother’s heart yet.
Poor sister-in-law.
How cold-hearted of brother.
Mo Du lowered his head and walked out, thoughtfully closing the door behind him.
Mo Yanzhou walked to the bedside and sat down, his voice much calmer now. “I forgot to tell him about the room change. Sorry he frightened you in the middle of the night.”
Mo Du hadn’t told him he was returning tonight either. He’d deal with that brat tomorrow!
Little pitiful Bai Yunxia lifted her teary eyes, threw off the thin quilt, and her soft body immediately threw itself into Mo Yanzhou’s embrace. Adopting the appearance of someone who had suffered a great fright, she clung tightly to him without speaking.
This fragile, frightened, pitiful appearance only deepened Mo Yanzhou’s guilt.
He wrapped his arms around Bai Yunxia’s back, unconsciously gentle as he stroked comfortingly. “That’s Mo Du, my biological younger brother. He wouldn’t dare tell Grandpa and Grandma, don’t worry.”
Buriying her face in his shoulder, Bai Yunxia wasn’t actually worried about their grandparents discovering they slept separately.
Their grandparents were far too clever—how could they not guess their current living arrangement?
Grandma had even considered moving in with Grandpa so the newlyweds would have to share a room daily, but ultimately decided against it, worrying that having two elderly people around might affect the young couple.
Bai Yunxia’s small hand tightly clutched his bathrobe, her voice soft and gentle, “You scared me. My heart is beating so fast, I can’t sleep.”
“Would you like a glass of milk?”
Does milk really have such good sleep-inducing effects?
Bai Yunxia shifted bit by bit, her little bottom moving onto Mo Yanzhou’s lap. “Is flying at high altitudes fun?”
“Not bad.”
Mo Yanzhou would engage in extreme sports when he was stressed. “If you’re scared, don’t think about trying it. You can play other things.”
“I do want to play something else…” Bai Yunxia slowly leaned closer to his handsome face, her nose tip gently rubbing against his. “Husband, will you let me play with you?”
She didn’t want to play other things—she wanted to play with him.
As Mo Yanzhou leaned back, Bai Yunxia followed, her red lips unexpectedly landing on his, gently nibbling his lower lip. Her sparkling almond-shaped eyes smiled seductively. “Playing like this—is it allowed?”
Mo Yanzhou restrained her soft waist, his deep, dark eyes silently fixed on her.
That gaze seemed to warn her not to move recklessly.
Besides “don’t move recklessly,” couldn’t Mo Yanzhou say something else?
Bai Yunxia felt deeply frustrated. “If my own husband won’t let me play, then I’ll go play with…”
Mo Yanzhou’s eyes darkened further, but he restrained himself from speaking.
“A devoted girl like me would never fool around outside.” Bai Yunxia planted a firm kiss on his lips. “I only want to play kissing games with my husband.”
Wearing her nightgown, her posture exposed her two pale, long legs entirely. Her fair legs pressed against his, swaying restlessly with subtle, teasing touches—all meant to provoke him.
Want to play with him?
What was so fun about someone as dull as him?
“I won’t be able to face anyone in the future…” Bai Yunxia smiled bitterly. “Everyone knows you don’t like me. Even though we’re married, it’s in name only.”
Mo Yanzhou murmured, “No one dares to gossip.”
Here, no one dared to gossip. Beyond this door, no one even knew their relationship.
Except for a few people.
Yan Ruse and An Keying naturally wouldn’t spread rumors.
She didn’t know about Zhan Bai.
As for the Bai family, her parents were in the hospital, and her older sister was busy with work, traveling everywhere on business. Her sister always had her best interests at heart and wouldn’t make things difficult for her.
Mo Yanzhou, the lofty authority, feared nothing.
Bai Yunxia’s eyes showed hurt, growing more fragile, as if she would shatter at the slightest touch. The corners of her eyes reddened as she held back tears and moved off Mo Yanzhou’s lap. “I suddenly feel sleepy.”
“Good night.”
Mo Yanzhou tossed out the words and stood up to leave.
As he exited the room, he saw Mo Du leaning against the wall nearby, holding a bottle of alcohol.
“Brother!”
Mo Yanzhou’s gaze was icy cold as he approached Mo Du with an aura of innate dominance. “Why aren’t you going to sleep?”
Scolded, Mo Du silently gripped his beer. “I was just curious to see if you’d stay there tonight. I think Sister-in-law is quite pretty—why do you sleep separately? If you don’t like her, why marry her? With your status, who would dare force you to marry someone?”
“Grandpa and Grandma.”
Oh.
That explained it.
Brother dominated him, and Grandpa and Grandma dominated Brother.
An unsolvable cycle.
“If I’d known, I would’ve come back a month earlier. I could’ve shared the burden of an arranged marriage for you!” Mo Du laughed heartily. “Grandpa and Grandma are so biased! All the good things go to Brother—they never think of me.”
Though Mo Du said this, there wasn’t a trace of jealousy in his eyes.
He knew exactly how difficult it had been for his brother—managing the company while also taking care of him during what should have been the prime years for romance. It had been especially taxing.
In his rebellious past, he had caused his brother no shortage of trouble.
A single stern look from his brother could make him drop to his knees on the spot.
Mo Yanzhou said coolly, “If you want to get married, go date. No one’s stopping you.”
