The memory of bumping a stack of things... and that sharp crack echoing through the metal box and out into the empty worksite made me wince. I’d rushed out and Stashed the shipping container and everything in it so fast that I’d barely registered what had happened.
Only when I was already three blocks away did I realize one of the hunter’s rifles must have somehow discharged. I don’t know a lot about guns... as my world did not have them and Helene had never fired one.
> But it is just my luck that somehow it fell in just the right way. Did one of the other weapons falling over wedge onto its trigger, maybe? What’s wrong with you? Of course she does. Because apparently I cannot just stay well enough away from that woman’s influence no matter how hard I try. If he wasn’t a Rimecoat, would I have tried to intercept him for her instead of run? I’d like to think I’d try, but more likely if I did anything... I would probably just pick her up and run... Wait, Claire? Where have I heard that name before? Except he just as immediately shot his gaze into the sky to avoid acknowledging. That reaction makes me think of how quick Kyrie was to back off when we first met. Are city wolves all just that goody-goody around people they are interested in? <
She frowns and digs out her phone... and I’m sure that she is about to use the evidence she prepared. Honestly, the more I’m thinking of it the less I’m certain that I want to be used for-
"But we got along really good after that. See? Really good."
Luca stared at the woman like she was some sort of enigma. Then he grabbed for the phone and started to delete the photo... but just sighed and handed the device back when he realized there were a lot more where that came from.
"...You have a deathwish, don’t you? I can’t promise she won’t freak out."
