“That’s right.

I’ve been doing these things the whole time.” Eddie stared into Annette’s beautiful eyes as he spoke.

“Listen—Spencer might not be a good man, but some of his ideas can still be applied.Full novel: Coming Clean Starts with Resident Evil — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

We have to be careful of Spencer.

Dr.

Birkin’s last conversation with Spencer was very unpleasant, and Uncle Marcus’s death definitely has something to do with Spencer too.

We’re the same—we share a common enemy!”

When someone looks you straight in the eyes, you can see the sincerity there.

Annette had no reason to doubt him.

She knew Marcus’s death was tied to Umbrella’s internal power struggle.

The details, she didn’t know at all—William never told her.

After all, who would have the face to openly say they personally killed the mentor who taught them?

“Your talent surprises me,” Annette said, turning her head away.

Holding a gaze like that made her feel guilty.

“I honestly suspect… maybe you were lying to me from the start.”

Everything Annette had done was meant to buy time—stalling Eddie so he wouldn’t discover William’s progress.

Deceiving a friend—one rare friend—made Annette feel ashamed.

After working at Umbrella for more than ten years, aside from her husband William, she wasn’t close to a single colleague.

“I don’t lie.” Eddie said proudly.

“Besides biology, I also know a lot about mechanical engineering.” A man wasn’t afraid of being poor—what he feared was being poor and talentless.

Ding!

A chime interrupted what Annette was about to say.

Inside the instrument, a faint, barely visible pale-blue serum appeared.

Eddie picked up the test tube and smiled.

“Do you think I should test it on myself?”

Annette pondered for a moment.

“As your friend, I don’t recommend it.

As a scientist, I don’t recommend it either.

This is gambling.

Even though biological science can be unstable and full of variables, generally speaking, once you mutate, it becomes very difficult to revert back.”

“I have confidence in myself,” Eddie said.

“I want to protect my family and my friends.

You’re my friend too.

I don’t have many friends—only a few since coming to Raccoon City.

Do you know what’s happening in the Arklay Mountains?

That place is a bioweapon testing ground.

I’m worried it will spill into the city.”

Telling these things to someone who wasn’t fully “his own person” was foolish.

Eddie bet correctly.

Annette didn’t tell William anything that happened during this period, including the fact that she and Eddie had become friends.

“I didn’t know,” she said quietly.

“This is dangerous.

You need to be careful.

I won’t tell William.

I believe you won’t betray us.”

“I need you to help me with something.” Eddie held the serum, his expression solemn.

“There’s a low-temperature controller here.

I’ll get inside.

I need you to watch it and make sure nothing goes wrong.

If anything feels off, lower the temperature further—to minus thirty.

Then inject some nutrient solution.

I’ve prepared everything.”

Annette hesitated.

“You’re not afraid I’ll harm you?”

“Haha.” Eddie laughed, and for once cracked a joke.

“We’re friends.

We’re both people obsessed with science.

It’s hard to come by a good friend.

I trust you, Annette.

We’re friends, right?

Good friends.

I believe time will prove your judgment.”

Annette frowned.

“My daughter is already in middle school!” Then she sighed.

“Fine.

If you trust me, I’ll help you.

You’re right—we’re friends.”

Success.

With sweet talk, Eddie had earned Annette’s trust, and no longer needed to step as cautiously as before.

Putting aside Annette’s mature charm and pretty face, she herself was a scientist with deep expertise in biology.

She was also the only woman who knew both the G-serum and the G-vaccine.

If Eddie wanted full G-serum data in the future, he would have to secure her help.

Playing the “emotional card” was shameless and despicable.

Eddie didn’t care whether it was shameless or not—if it achieved the goal, he’d even trick the King of Hell himself!

The serum was slowly injected.

A cool sensation spread through his whole body as his veins throbbed, and in an instant Eddie felt extreme agony—like he was being torn apart, as if his body couldn’t withstand it.

Staggering, he stepped into the low-temperature cryo pod.

The hatch closed quickly.

Tubes surrounded him, connected to nutrient fluid.

Under the effects of modified ether, Eddie gradually fell into a sleeping state.

This modified ether would not leave behind the usual side effects of ordinary anesthesia.

Annette stood at the control console with her brows knitted.

Her pale fingers—painted with bright red nail polish—tapped the keyboard.

“Eddie… my friend.

I hope you’re right.

And I hope you won’t stand against us.

Otherwise… I can only apologize to you.

I’m selfish.

I only care about my family.”

The T-serum surged wildly through Eddie’s veins.

Even in low-temperature dormancy, he could still feel faint threads of pain.

His mind stayed tight, as if he could see his own cells changing.

This special improved serum had been mixed with his own cells—cells from his immune system: white blood cells.

To fuse perfectly, the first stage was overcoming the human immune system.

Once the serum was detected, the immune system would judge whether it was harmful.

If harmless, it would be allowed through.

If harmful, it would be blocked within a certain range—and the white blood cells would devour the harmful cells, often through a mutual-destruction method.

Eddie’s improved serum contained a portion of his own genetic material.

That caused the immune system to treat the T-serum as “one of its own.” The serum itself also carried white blood cells belonging to the same system.

Even though the serum’s violent devouring effect had been reduced by a lot, reshaping an adult’s body—already formed and “set”—was extremely difficult.

Everything needed to be destroyed and rebuilt, constructing organs specifically suited for the serum.

Those newly formed organs would be more vigorous, and each individual organ would have enough drive to bear the corresponding load of strength.

The freezing time passed according to the preset program—six hours.

Then the hatch opened.

A wave of cold air spilled from the cryo chamber, and it somehow carried that “unusual entrance” feeling—like something significant was about to appear.

Annette nervously picked up a gun.

She knew perfectly well: either success… or death.

And the fastest “bad outcome” was turning into a mindless zombie.

Even if the body was still human, it would no longer be the original person—only a beast controlled by the serum.

It’s not really mandatory—I’ll eventually upload all the chapters here—but it helps a lot in supporting me and allows me to dedicate more time to it.
