“Um?”

Conan wanted to explain things for Shouichi, but he didn’t know what to say.

As the child supposedly being kidnapped, even Conan wasn’t sure.

“Come back to the station with me first,” Miyamoto Yumi said.

Shouichi sighed.

“It’s not like you can do anything to me, so why bother?”

Unable to stand Shouichi’s provocation, Yumi forcefully insisted on taking him in.

Conan, the brat who was supposedly the kidnapped child, was also invited to the police station by Yumi.

…

“Hey, honey, someone snatched him right out from under us.”

After Edogawa Fumiyo’s car was stolen, she and the Mouri family began chasing after it to find the culprit.

At a street corner, she slipped away from Mouri and his daughter to call her husband alone.

“What are you talking about?”

The man clearly didn’t understand what Fumiyo meant.

“Shinichi was snatched away by someone!”

“By who?

Was it someone from the organization that shrank Shinichi?”

“I don’t know,” Fumiyo said, racking her brains.

Who knows who it actually was?

The guy stole the car and the person inside it right out in the open.

He must be completely lawless!

With Shinichi falling into that man’s hands, things look grim.

Meanwhile.

Mouri Kogorou and Ran were bent over, panting heavily.

The car had driven off too fast; now they couldn’t even see its taillights.

“Let’s call the police first,” Kogorou said.

There was no other way.

They could only ask the police for help.

Human traffickers and thieves were far too rampant these days.

To dare steal a car and kidnap someone right in front of his house, in broad daylight!

The most infuriating part was that the thief actually succeeded.

Bent over, Ran said, “I guess we have to.

By the way, where is Ms.

Edogawa?”

“She probably couldn’t run anymore and is resting somewhere, right?” Kogorou guessed, looking around.

*Ring, ring!*

“Hello?”

“Hello, this is the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.”

Ran blinked in astonishment.

She hadn’t even called the police yet, so why were they calling her?

“Is there something the matter?” Ran asked.

“We have a child named Conan here who says he’s your younger brother.

He’s currently at the police station.

Could you come over and pick him up?”

“No problem, I’ll head over right now.”

Ran hung up the phone, completely bewildered.

How did Conan end up at the police station?

…

At the police station, Conan had also figured out his own situation.

He hadn’t lost his memory.

He had just been sitting in that lady’s car when this guy named Shouichi came over and stole it.

Since he was inside the vehicle, Conan had essentially become a complimentary gift with purchase.

Shouichi was a habitual offender.

He simply liked stealing cars and wasn’t affiliated with that lady or the organization that force-fed him the drug.

Although stealing was very wrong, the man had inadvertently rescued him from that lady’s clutches.

It could be considered doing a good deed with bad intentions.

Shouichi set down his water cup and complained with a hint of dissatisfaction, “Doesn’t the police station serve tea or coffee to its guests?”

Yumi looked at Shouichi with a fake smile and said, “The station doesn’t have those things.

Besides, you’re a criminal, not a guest.”

Shouichi sighed, pulled a checkbook from his pocket, scribbled a string of numbers on it, and handed it to Yumi.

“This is my donation to the police station’s funding.

I hope I can get some coffee next time.”

“The police station won’t take your money!” Yumi threw the check right back at Shouichi.

*Does this guy think he can do whatever he wants just because he has money?*

“Ahem, Yumi, come here for a second.”

Yumi was called away by an older officer.

Shouichi glanced over, then sat back in his chair, crossing his legs as he read a newspaper.

Conan felt that this guy was incredibly arrogant.

*You’re a car thief, yet you’re this relaxed inside a police station?*

Moreover, after that female traffic cop was called away by the older officer, she heard something that made her expression turn sour, and then she left without a word.

The older officer who came over spoke to Shouichi with a pleasant, accommodating expression, terrified that speaking too loudly might startle him.

Conan looked thoughtful.

*It seems this man isn’t just rich, but also very powerful.

Is he the young master of some financial conglomerate?*

Conan’s inner soul of justice began to flare up.

*Even if he’s rich and powerful, he can’t be above the law!*

“Young Master Shouichi, is your mental state alright?

You weren’t frightened by Miyamoto Yumi, were you?”

“I’ve been taking my medication lately, so my mental state is much better.

I won’t have a psychiatric episode just from a little scare.”

Conan’s righteous fury instantly fizzled out.

*If he’s a psychiatric patient, this is going to be a bit tricky to deal with.*

“Conan!”

“Sister Ran!”

Conan threw himself directly at Ran.

She patted his head and picked him up.

Surprisingly, Professor Agasa was following right behind her.

“How did you end up at the police station?” Ran asked Conan.

Conan explained how he had become a complimentary gift and was taken away by Shouichi.

Mouri Kogorou glared at Shouichi with an unfriendly expression.

The older officer anxiously stepped in front of Shouichi, blocking Kogorou, who looked ready to throw a punch.

“You need to calm down!

This is a police station!

It’s not a place where you can just start a fight!”

Shouichi folded his newspaper and placed it on the table.

A faint smile appeared on his face as he handed the check that Yumi had rejected over to Kogorou.

“I am terribly sorry about this incident.

Please accept this as an apology.”

“Do you think you can just resolve something like this with money?”

Kogorou snatched the check in annoyance.

He was going to let Shouichi know that not everything could be solved with an apology.

“F-F-Five million?”

Seeing the number written on the check, Kogorou stammered, his jaw nearly dropping to the floor.

He immediately swapped to a completely different expression and said, “Honestly, you’re far too polite!

I should be the one thanking you for picking up this brat, Conan.”

Kogorou wished Conan could get picked up by Shouichi a few more times.

Shouichi’s sincerity was simply too overwhelming.

If he picked Conan up, it was entirely Conan’s fault for not dodging out of the way.

“No need to thank me.

It was the least I could do,” Shouichi said with a smile.

Ran slapped a hand over her forehead, feeling utterly humiliated.

“Dad, how could you!

Give the money back to him!”

…

Leaving the police station, Shouichi rolled his wrists to stretch them.

After that little greeting, he was confident that Miyamoto Yumi would maintain a policy of strictly ignoring him for quite some time.

*Honestly.*

*I’m such a prominent young master, yet I don’t go around bullying people or running amok in the streets.

I just like to pick up abandoned cars.

Why keep such a close eye on me?*

*Oh, and I also pick up abandoned lolis.*

“Hello?

This is Shouichi.”

His driver hadn’t arrived yet, but a phone call did.

“Manager Shouichi, this is Kotani Jirou!

We really owe our company’s successful public listing to your guidance.

I was wondering if you have time tomorrow?

I’d love to treat you to a meal at the Beika Hotel to show my gratitude.”

“Of course I have time.

I’ll be there right on time tomorrow at noon.”
