The scorching sun blazed overhead—it was currently summer on this planet. After finishing the last mouthful of water in her flask, Cang Er finally saw the buildings of the town.
Skyscrapers towered into the clouds, their silver exteriors reflecting dazzling light under the fierce sun. From time to time, all kinds of flying vehicles passed through the sky, each following fixed aerial routes that perfectly avoided every building.
The ground had become an activity zone exclusively for humans and animals. Occasionally, people walked by accompanied by intelligent robots. Even the roads were no longer lined with trees; instead, structures made of unknown metallic modules were stacked into tree-like forms. Their tall “trunks” spread outward, providing shade from the blazing sun above.
Even though this was her second time entering the city, the overwhelming sense of advanced technology still left Cang Er in awe.
Everyone wore a thin metal piece on their wrist, about the size of a peanut, seemingly embedded into the skin and impossible to fall off.
Cang Er guessed it was something like a mobile phone from old Earth, because every so often someone would raise their hand and open an electronic light screen. However, the information on those screens was covered by a white film, presumably a privacy protection feature that prevented anyone but the owner from seeing it.
She lowered her head and looked at her own slender wrist, confirming once again—tragically—that she didn’t have one.
This damn interstellar era—why did it have to drag her here?! If they were going to bring her here, couldn’t they at least give her a system like everyone else?! If not a system, then at least give her some money!!
She tilted her head up at a seventy-five-degree angle toward the sky, shedding tears at a precise thirty-six point five degrees…
After letting out another string of curses, she resigned herself to walking toward the central plaza. Based on her 21st-century work experience, central plazas usually had job postings.
She wanted to earn money as soon as possible to buy a ticket to the main city.
In this interstellar age, children with talents generally completed all basic education before the age of thirteen, then entered special talent academies around the age of fifteen to formally study their abilities. This body looked to be about thirteen years old, so she still had a fair amount of time to work and earn money.
In the central plaza, a massive fountain sprayed a fine mist into the air, outlining rainbow hues under the sunlight. Standing on tiptoe beneath the huge recruitment light screen, the 1.4-meter-tall Cang Er scanned through the listings…

Cang Er scanned down the list, and her eyes suddenly lit up.
She looked around, planning to go to a nutrient solution shop to buy two low-grade nutrient supplements and, while at it, ask about the factory’s address.
Where there was spending, there was information.
Having no way to go online was far too inconvenient—she needed to save up quickly to buy a lightbrain.
Cang Er clenched her teeth, constantly brainwashing herself:
A worker’s soul for a worker’s life—work hard, and one day become someone above the rest!
