The next morning, the sun was already high in the sky when Lin Shu was awakened by the glaring sunlight.
She had just wanted to stretch when the soreness and aching all over her body immediately stopped her.
She really had no idea where Shen Huai got all that energy. Every day, he had to go for morning exercises before dawn. Just hearing about all the training exercises already made her tired, and when he came home at night, he would wear her out all over again.
He could sleep for only four or five hours and still have enough energy to go for morning drills.
No matter how hard she tried, Lin Shu simply couldn’t understand where men got all that energy.
She pushed herself up, took a shower, and freshened up before going downstairs for breakfast.
The moment Lin Shu came downstairs, Jiang Jie stared at her with a smile at the corner of her lips.
“Sister-in-law, what are you smiling about?”
“Mommy, what are you smiling about?”
The two of them asked innocently, making Jiang Jie laugh so hard she could barely close her mouth. She even turned around to laugh.
“Xiaonan, take this outside and leave it in the courtyard to dry.”
Lin Xiaonan took the small bamboo tray from his mother. It was filled with his favorite dried sweet potatoes.
“I really couldn’t tell. Your brother-in-law usually doesn’t say much, but at night, he’s quite energetic when it comes to tiring you out.”
Lin Shu suddenly remembered what she had seen while taking a shower. Her neck and upper chest were covered in red marks.
She had thought about covering them up, but she had gotten busy getting ready and completely forgotten.
“Sister-in-law, stop laughing. I’m going upstairs for a moment.”
When Lin Shu came back down, she had already changed her clothes. She was now wearing a white high-collared shirt that barely covered the red marks on her neck and chest.
When she saw that her sister-in-law was gone, she breathed a sigh of relief.
They were all adults, and it was perfectly normal for a married couple to do that sort of thing, but Shen Huai showed absolutely no intention of taking a break.
Ever since she had told him that they should properly live as husband and wife, he had come home every single day, and every night, he refused to let her off the hook.
To be honest, being taken care of by Shen Huai every day was more than just exhausting it was actually quite pleasurable.
But there still had to be some limits.
When Shen Huai came back later, she definitely had to have a serious talk with him about this.
After breakfast, Lin Shu cleared the dining table and searched around the house and outside.
Her sister-in-law had probably taken her nephew out to buy groceries.
There was no one at home, which was perfect. She could secretly “duplicate” some of her family’s clothes.
She already had no problem with her own daily necessities.
In fact, she repeated the experiments every day. By now, she had already duplicated several copies of her own belongings inside the space. Only after confirming that everything was fine did Lin Shu dare to use them without worry.
She sneaked into her brother and sister-in-law’s room and placed their everyday clothes into the space, duplicating a set before taking it back out.
Then she went to her father’s and nephew’s rooms.
While she was at it, she also duplicated all the photographs in the house.
These things couldn’t be taken away in the future. In fact, even the house itself would eventually be smashed apart.
Looking at the home where she had lived for more than twenty years, Lin Shu felt a little emotional.
“If only I could duplicate the whole house and put it into the space too…”
She murmured softly.
The next second, she suddenly found herself standing in a vast world filled with a pale green glow.
She looked up.
Her house was actually standing not far away.
Lin Shu cautiously walked over and opened the door.
The layout and furnishings inside were exactly the same as her home.
She quickly realized what had happened.
Everything she had just said had actually come true.
To test the theory in her mind, she took a large watermelon from the kitchen.
Then she glanced at the endless pale-green space outside and noticed a tiny point of light in the distance.
Her attention was immediately drawn to it, and she followed the light.
After walking for about five minutes, the light gradually came closer.
Only then did she realize that what she had thought was a point of light was actually a small spring, its water gently trickling.
For some reason, the moment Lin Shu saw the spring, she suddenly felt unbearably thirsty.
She immediately reached out, scooped up some of the water with her hands, and drank it.
The spring water was sweet and refreshing.
She hadn’t expected that even though it was so hot outside, the temperature inside the space wasn’t affected at all.
Lin Shu smacked her lips, savoring the sweetness of the water she had just drunk.
It was the best-tasting water she had ever had.
Unable to resist, she took another sip.
But after she finished drinking, she suddenly remembered something.
How was she supposed to get out?
What if she couldn’t leave and ended up trapped here for the rest of her life?
The moment that thought crossed her mind, everything in front of her rapidly disappeared.
She was back in the second-floor hallway.
There was even a watermelon sitting by her feet the one she had wanted to bring out earlier but hadn’t been holding.
Lin Shu quickly picked up the watermelon and hurried downstairs.
The large watermelon in the vegetable basket in the kitchen was still there, while she was holding another one that looked exactly the same.
Lin Shu sighed and put the watermelon down.
She understood now.
This bracelet was connected to her thoughts.
She stretched out her hand and silently thought about it.
Sure enough, the next moment, another watermelon appeared in her hand.
This watermelon looked much better.
Although its shape was exactly the same as the original watermelon, when she looked closely and even after cutting it open she found that it was far better than the original.
Jiang Jie returned and saw her sister-in-law fiddling around in the kitchen.
“Where did that watermelon come from?”
Lin Shu snapped back to reality. Seeing her sister-in-law suddenly return, she immediately said, “Sister-in-law, the watermelon you bought is white inside. So I went outside and bought two more.”
Jiang Jie walked over and compared it with the other one that had already been cut open.
The second watermelon was much bigger and much redder.
Still, the other one wasn’t completely inedible.
Afraid that her sister-in-law might notice something strange, Lin Shu quickly cut off a piece of the good watermelon and handed it to her.
“Sister-in-law, try this one yourself. The other one doesn’t have any flavor at all.”
Jiang Jie first ate the good watermelon, then took a bite of the one she had bought herself.
Her brows immediately furrowed.
“Hey, that dishonest seller swore to me when I bought it that it would be sweet.”
Lin Shu smiled faintly.
“Forget it, Sister-in-law. We can use it as compost.”
She cut up the watermelon and threw the pieces onto the few small vegetable plots they had cleared and cultivated.
Just then, Lin Xiaonan came running over crying.
“Auntie, someone outside said I’m the son of a landlord. They said they’re going to burn our house down.”
Lin Shu had experienced the same kind of treatment herself, being looked down on and treated as inferior in class.
Unfortunately, that was simply how things were in this era.
“Xiaonan, have you memorized everything Auntie taught you?”
“Yes, Auntie.”
“Good.”
None of this seemed particularly important right now.
But if an investigation team came later, even the three- or four-year-old children in the family would be able to recite these things. At the very least, it could lessen some of the so-called “guilt” attributed to them.
At that time, learning how to express the proper political stance was something everyone had to know.
Lin Shu used the watermelon in her hands to distract her little nephew, making him forget those upsetting things.
After lunch, Lin Shu had nothing else to do, so she decided to go outside for a walk.
The space had indeed given her tremendous convenience and confidence, but there were still many things they didn’t have at home.
Medicine, for example.
Conditions in the northwest were harsh. If someone needed medical treatment, they might have to travel dozens of kilometers to reach a hospital.
There were elderly people and children in the family. What if something urgent happened?
Without any means of transportation, what would they do if there were an emergency?
When Lin Shu arrived at the hospital, however, reality quickly defeated her.
She could only buy some relatively common medical supplies.
Bored, Lin Shu sat outside and suddenly remembered that she also needed to have some money on hand.
She had the space, but there were some things that still required money to deal with.
She rubbed her hands together.
Then Lin Shu remembered that she had accidentally cut her hand the day before.
She wanted to check whether the wound had healed, but she discovered something terrifying.
Yesterday, she had accidentally been cut by a book page badly enough to bleed. There had even been a little bloodstain on her clothes.
But now, there wasn’t even the slightest trace of a wound on her finger.
She looked at both hands carefully and couldn’t find any marks at all.
Even the scar she had gotten as a child after accidentally cutting herself with a kitchen knife was gone.
Lin Shu felt as though her head was about to explode.
She rolled up her sleeve and looked at her elbow.
There had originally been another scar there that had never disappeared.
But now, the skin was smooth, fair, and unbelievably soft.
Lin Shu stood there in a daze for a long time.
In the end, she came to one conclusion:
The spring water inside the space had miraculous healing effects!
