When Rex and the other two returned to Wayne Manor, they found guests already waiting outside.

“Hi, Gordon.”

Bruce greeted him first, then noticed a girl he had never seen before standing beside Gordon.Full novel: Conquering the Multiverse: Starting as the King of Gotham — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The girl looked slightly older than him.

She was quite pretty, with a somewhat full face dusted with a few freckles.

Coupled with her bushy hair and eyes that darted around looking at everything…

‘A bristling little kitten.’

This was the first impression that popped into Bruce’s mind.

“Let’s go inside first.”

Seeing Bruce staring intently at the young girl, Rex stepped forward to usher everyone in.

The group sat down in the study.

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Gordon got straight to the point and handed Bruce a sketch.

“She says this is the killer who murdered your parents.”

“She said she saw the killer’s face.

Does this look familiar, Bruce?”

Bruce shook his head.

“No.”

That night, Bruce could not see the assailant’s face clearly at all; he had only noticed the man wearing a pair of shiny leather shoes.

Rex also took a glance at it.

It was a very ordinary, generic face.

Knowing the plot, he understood that the little Catwoman was lying.

Although she had been in the alley that night and witnessed the murder of the Waynes with her own eyes, she hadn’t seen the killer’s face clearly either.

Right now, this was just Catwoman trying to fool Gordon so she wouldn’t be thrown into juvenile detention.

However, she never expected that Gordon would bring her directly to Wayne Manor.

Bruce asked about the girl, “What is her name?”

“Selina Kyle.”

“Do you believe her?”

Gordon nodded.

“Yes.”

“You want her to stay here with us?” Alfred asked at this moment, looking rather displeased.

“A street thief?”

“She is not much older than Bruce,” Gordon tried hard to persuade him.

“She is just a kid who saw something she shouldn’t have seen.”

“This is for her safety.”

“There are too many moles in the Gotham City Police Department…”

“Alright, how long do you want her to stay with us?” Alfred conceded, thinking it wouldn’t be impossible if it was just for a short while.

“I do not know.” Gordon was very frank.

He didn’t feel safe putting Selina anywhere else, and bringing her back to his own home was inconvenient, so he had no choice but to seek help at Wayne Manor.

“No, I do not agree.

Her being here will bring danger to Master Bruce,” Alfred flatly refused.

Bruce tried to interrupt him, but Alfred directly asked, “She is an eyewitness to a murder.

You understand the stakes involved, right?”

“She is also our best chance at finding the killer who murdered my parents,” Bruce voiced his disagreement.

He dreamed of bringing the thug from that night to justice.

“I have decided.

She can stay here, for as long as she needs to.”

Although Alfred was his legal guardian, he always fully respected Bruce’s opinions on all matters.

Seeing that Bruce had made his decision, he had no choice but to agree.

Gordon then stood up and said to Alfred, “Montoya and I are going to meet with a lawyer they trust.”

“Hah, a trustworthy lawyer.”

“In Gotham, no less?”

Alfred’s sharp tongue was performing as reliably as ever.

Gordon also knew this was hard to believe, so he tried his best to add, “If we find the killer, we will need Selina to testify.

She is very important.”

Knowing Bruce’s obsession with finding the killer, Alfred finally stopped objecting.

“Alright, Alfred.

Selina staying here has its benefits too.”

Rex walked over and patted the reluctant Alfred on the shoulder.

“Don’t you think this manor is missing something?”

“What?” Alfred was confused.

“Girls.

There is too much masculine energy and not enough feminine energy in this manor.”

“I do not think Master Bruce would care about that.” Alfred found the idea absurd.

Rex winked at him.

“But Bruce is only twelve, the exact age to be curious about girls.

Letting him interact with them early on will prevent him from getting tricked later.”

“Uh, you have a point.”

Alfred was left speechless.

Just as Rex had said, the moment Bruce left the study, he immediately sought out Selina to express his goodwill.

In their subsequent interactions, Bruce defended Selina at every turn.

Selina also didn’t treat Bruce any differently due to the gap in their social statuses; she treated him completely normally.

And this was exactly what Bruce needed.

At school, everyone knew he was the heir to Wayne Enterprises.

His classmates either kept a respectful distance, flattered him, or mocked him coldly—the only thing missing was normal interaction.

Thus, their relationship grew increasingly harmonious.

Bruce and Selina could frequently be seen chasing each other and playing around all over the manor.

This morning, Rex, Bruce, and Alfred were practicing combat in the garden when Selina suddenly walked over.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Practicing boxing,” Bruce immediately stopped.

“In case an accident happens, I can be prepared in advance.”

“I am hungry.” Get faster updates on novelpin‌g.com.

After a brief exchange, Selina stated.

She had always been very direct.

“Breakfast is at 8:00 AM, Miss Selina.”

“You overslept.”

Alfred beat Bruce to the punch in answering.

“There is a lot of good food in the kitchen.

Alfred would definitely be willing to make you some…” Bruce offered enthusiastically, but Alfred quickly cut him off.

“No, he will not, because this is not a hotel.”

When it came to making snarky remarks, Alfred was second to none.

“Alright, Alfred.

Selina is Bruce’s guest, yo wou should be a bit more polite,” Rex stepped in to smooth things over, putting an end to the artverbal clash between Alfred and Selina.

Since Rex said so, bringing the vote to two against one, Alfred had no choice but to agree.

He sighed.

“Just keep spoiling her, you two.”

With that, Alfred took off his boxing gloves and headed toward the kitchen.

“I will go make some waffles.”

‘Uh…’

Rex suddenly felt as if he had just doomed Selina.

He gave her a look that said ‘good luck,’ which only left Selina completely bewildered.

Alfred was now a skilled hand at making waffles.

Apart from the fact that they tasted terrible, there were no other issues.

Bruce took a tray of food and went to bond with Selina.

Seeing this, Alfred couldn’t help but complain to Rex.

“I never expected the young master to like her.”

“It is quite nice.

Their personalities complement each other well, one quiet and one active.” Rex was fully focused on enjoying the gossip.

Besides, Selina was Bruce’s official love interest anyway.

“She is arrogant, she is cunning, and she is a troublemaker.”

“You actually study girls too?” Rex cast a surprised glance at Alfred.

“I observe very clearly.

You said we should let Master Bruce interact with girls to prevent him from being tricked.” Alfred shook his head as he evaluated the situation.

“From the looks of it now, the young master is already completely enchanted by this Selina.”

“I agree,” Rex nodded decisively, entirely forgetting that he was the one who had given Alfred this terrible idea in the first place.

Alfred choked on his words.

He turned to look at Rex, his mouth opening and closing.

“With skin as thick as yours, you should stop hanging around the mob and go run for mayor.”
