“I swear, I absolutely did not reveal Selina’s whereabouts.”

While a group of police officers was cleaning up the mess at Wayne Manor, Gordon solemnly assured Alfred and Rex that he was definitely not the one who had leaked the information.

“What about your lawyer friend?” Rex asked.Full novel: Conquering the Multiverse: Starting as the King of Gotham — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“I never told him the witness’s name,” Gordon explained.

Rex thought for a moment.

“Then did he ever reveal your identity?”

“He promised me he wouldn’t make my identity public.”

“What about in private?”

Gordon thought about it carefully.

It really was a possibility.

“Damn it!”

“Thank goodness you are all okay.” Gordon let out a long sigh of relief, looked around, and asked in confusion, “Where are Bruce and Selina?”

“They are upstairs,” Alfred replied.

Rex’s expression suddenly changed.

“It has been so long.

Why haven’t they come down yet?”

Realizing something was wrong, Rex and Alfred hurriedly ran upstairs.

They searched every corner of the second floor, but it was completely empty.

“Alfred.”

Rex found a note on the desk and handed it to Alfred when he walked over.

It read: I went to Gotham with Selina.

“Good news: they left on their own,” Rex said.

“Bad news: they went to Gotham,” Alfred said, his face turning grave.

“Two kids.”

“Don’t worry too much.

Selina grew up in Gotham; she can take good care of Bruce.”

“But it is still best to find them as soon as possible.”

Rex comforted Alfred, but letting Bruce stay out for too long was not a viable option.

Moreover, the mastermind behind the scenes would not likely let this go; there was a high chance of a second wave of assassins.

“I will make a phone call.”

He remembered from the plot that when Bruce and Selina escaped Wayne Manor to avoid being hunted, Selina took Bruce to a fence to exchange stolen goods for cash, only to be betrayed by that fence.

The call connected.

“Carmine, I need you to help me find someone.”

“Who?”

“A fence named Brad.”

“Did something happen?” Falcone asked, noticing the urgency in Rex’s tone.

“Bruce Wayne is likely going to look for him.

There are professional hitmen hunting them down,” Rex made the situation sound very serious.

“You know the importance of Bruce Wayne to Gotham.”

The federal government would then take over the company’s shares, inevitably leading to a thorough investigation into its internal operations.

Given how shockingly corrupt Wayne Enterprises currently was, Gotham would inevitably plunge into total chaos.

“Alright, I will make contact right now.” Falcone knew the severity of the matter and agreed without hesitation.

“Once you find Brad, do not alert him.

Just tell me his location.”

Rex was worried that alerting Brad prematurely might cause the little cat to not bring Bruce there.

“I will send Zsasz to assist you,” Falcone added, knowing Rex did not have any available manpower on hand.

“No need, I can handle it.”

Rex quickly declined the offer.

Most other people thought the assassins were sent by Lovecraft.

Because Gordon and the lawyer, Dent, suspected that this billionaire was the mastermind behind the murder of the Waynes, Dent intentionally leaked information about Selina to flush the snake out of the grass.

But Rex knew these assassins were actually sent by the Court of Owls.

In their attempt to eliminate the eyewitness, the little cat, they would also end up killing Lovecraft.

So he naturally could not let Falcone send his men to intervene and directly confront the Court of Owls.

Otherwise, if the Court contacted Falcone later, Rex’s identity might be exposed.

“Rex, who did you contact?

Does he have a way?”

As soon as Rex hung up the phone, Alfred hurriedly asked for information.

“Falcone.”

“Uh, that Falcone?”

Alfred was momentarily stunned.

Of course, he knew the name of Gotham’s overlord.

Seeing Rex nod, he couldn’t help but sigh, “It seems you are doing quite well in the mob.”

They did not delay.

After giving Gordon a heads-up, they drove straight to Gotham.

Although the Court of Owls did not currently plan to kill Bruce, the streets of Gotham would not be so forgiving.

Gordon also planned to find the lawyer, Dent, to question him about whether he leaked the intel, and to ask for Lovecraft’s whereabouts while he was at it.

Watching Gordon leave, Rex did not warn him that after he found Lovecraft, the Court of Owls’ assassins would also arrive to silence him—using Gordon’s own police service weapon, which would bring Gordon a considerable amount of trouble.

This whole incident was caused by Gordon trusting others too easily.

Rex intended to let him learn a lesson; after all, Gordon’s life was not in any real danger.

“Where are we going?

Directly to that fence?”

Alfred grumbled while driving.

“I still cannot believe it.

That little cat lived in Wayne Manor, ate and drank well, and she actually stole from the Wayne family.”

“I told you she was a troublemaker.”

“Diamond District, the nightclub.” Rex did not address the complaint.

“What are we going there for?”

“To find a street kid and ask for directions to a place.”

When Rex reviewed the memory library in his mind, he saw that Selina had taken Bruce to a flea market for street kids.

He wanted to try and see if they could find them there.

Alfred’s driving skills were top-notch, especially when he was in a hurry.

It did not take them long to arrive near the nightclub.

After getting out of the car, Rex deliberately walked through the alleys and soon spotted a familiar head of brown hair.

“Peter.”

“Sir?”

The street kid jogged over.

It was Peter, the one who had previously helped Rex deliver the gift box to Falcone.

“How can I help you, sir?” Peter asked.

“Where is your street kids’ flea market?”

“It is a bit far from here.”

Peter did not know what Rex was planning to do, but he gave him the address directly.

“Thanks, Peter.”

Rex discreetly slipped ten 10-dollar bills to Peter, patted him on the shoulder, and left.

Wealth should not be exposed.

Peter had helped him quite a bit, so Rex definitely needed to pay attention to the kid’s safety.

Alfred started the car again.

By the time they arrived at the flea market, it was already past noon.

They called it a market, but it was actually just an abandoned auditorium.

“Do not take the front entrance,” Rex said, pulling back Alfred who was about to charge straight in.

“It is full of street kids inside.

It would be too conspicuous if we walked right in.

If the assassins are also here, we could easily expose them.”

Rex pointed to a second-floor window outside the auditorium, where the glass had long been broken.

The two of them climbed into the market from the second floor.

Seeing that the street kids were almost entirely gathered in the lobby on the first floor, they searched carefully.

Sharp-eyed, Alfred quickly and pleasantly spotted Bruce’s figure.

“They are over there!”

Rex looked in the direction he was pointing.

Both Bruce and Selina were safe.

He relaxed and even let out a soft whistle.

“Haha, it looks like Selina is buying matching couple’s outfits for her and Bruce.”

Alfred cast him a helpless glance, then his expression turned weird.

“Wait, you actually brought the camera with you?”
