Not long after Alfred and Harvey went inside, a Jeep drove toward them.
The Jeep pulled over by the roadside.
Three men stepped out of the vehicle one after another.
They were dressed identically and exuded a very obvious murderous aura.
“Is that them?” Gordon asked.
After waiting two seconds without an answer, Gordon looked to the side, only to see Rex already taking aim.
“Wait, what if…”
Whoosh!
Boom!
The entire Jeep was hit directly by the rocket, resulting in a violent explosion.
The three assassins were instantly silenced.
“That was them.
Let’s see if there are any survivors.”
Rex tossed aside the rocket launcher, grabbed a machine gun, and slowly walked toward the site of the explosion.
Seeing Rex act so decisively, Gordon felt a momentary twinge of inferiority.
Rat-tat-tat!
A burst of gunfire rang out.
Rex finished off an assassin who had luckily survived and was vainly attempting a sneak attack.
After a quick inspection, he gave Gordon an “all-clear” hand signal.
“I was completely useless standing here,” Gordon sighed, shaking his head.
Rex’s strikes were truly fast.
“Here,” Rex nudged an assassin lying on the ground with his foot.
“This one still has a breath left.
Your use has arrived.”
“A waste of public funds,” Gordon said helplessly.
Ultimately, the city would have to pay for the medical treatment of these wounded men, but this was still part of a police officer’s duty.
So, he dialed for an ambulance.
Rex walked directly into the fence’s hideout.
The battle outside had ended so quickly that Alfred and Harvey hadn’t even had time to regroup with Bruce yet.
However, when it came to dealing with these mobsters, Harvey was a veteran.
Seeing Rex walk in, he bluntly stated that the assassins had already been taken out.
He told Brad not to put up a stubborn resistance; if he handed over the two kids, Harvey would pretend he had never even been there.
Persuaded by his own subordinates, Brad finally decided to release Bruce and Selina.
Everyone was happy.
Alfred couldn’t wait to greet his young master.
The moment Bruce walked out of the holding area, he spotted him immediately.
“Alfred.
I didn’t expect to see you here.” The anxiety gripping both of their hearts dissipated simultaneously.
After today’s thrilling experiences, Bruce actually found himself missing Alfred’s waffles.
“Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” Bruce nodded, indicating he was okay.
Alfred walked up to Bruce and carefully inspected him.
After confirming that Bruce was genuinely unharmed, he finally relaxed and said, “Master Bruce, you scared me to death.”
“If you had died…” Alfred’s tone was emotional, “…who hires butlers these days?”
Bruce couldn’t help but laugh.
He then pulled Alfred into a hug, and Alfred tightly embraced his young master in return.
Rex, having just walked over, witnessed this touching scene.
Click!
The reason he was a little late was that he had gone back to grab his camera.
Of course, he wasn’t going to miss a scene like this.
He planned to make a photo collection in the future, themed The Road of Batman’s Growth.
If he could take items out of this world, Rex would definitely bring these photos.
In case he ever went to other Batman worlds in the future, relying on these would surely help him get along well with Batman.
Or get beaten to a pulp by him.
“Rex, thank you.
You saved me again,” Bruce walked over to express his gratitude.
Rex waved his hand, telling him not to mention it.
Then, he noticed someone was missing.
“Where did Selina go?”
“She left.” Bruce replied, “She said she didn’t actually see the face of the killer who murdered my parents, and then she left.”
Rex observed Bruce’s expression but didn’t see any annoyance at being deceived.
‘Makes sense.
The bliss of first love is enough to cover up any other flaws.’
However, Selina was not a house cat after all.
Compared to the comfortable life at Wayne Manor, she yearned more for the freedom of the outside world.
With Gordon spreading the news that Selina had never seen the killer’s true face, the mastermind behind the scenes no longer obsessed over capturing her.
After all, they had already lost two waves of assassins.
Wayne Manor returned to its usual tranquility, though Bruce would often close the study door, preventing Alfred from seeing what was happening inside.
Rex didn’t know either, only that he was running out of camera film faster and faster.
Of course, he wasn’t perverted enough to secretly photograph the young couple being affectionate inside.
But he did manage to capture most of the scenes of the little kitten sneaking into the study.
After all, since he ate and lived here, he had to contribute to the manor’s security.
Gordon, as expected, was made the scapegoat by the Mayor.
He was demoted to a security guard at Arkham Asylum.
Rex wasn’t worried about him in the slightest.
It wouldn’t be long before Gordon returned to the GCPD.
After all, wherever Gordon went, crime followed.
Considering this was Gotham, it wasn’t that he discovered crime; rather, crime was simply omnipresent.
Right now, Rex was more concerned about the Penguin’s state of mind.
It wasn’t that he was disrespecting Rex; the Penguin’s attitude toward Rex hadn’t changed at all.
Rather, he had developed a slight disdain for Maroni and the others.
Lately, he had made several great contributions, received rapid promotions, and managed to keep Maroni completely in the dark.
All of this made him look down on the “heroes” of the underworld.
Simply put, the Penguin let the success get to his head.
After hanging up the phone with the Penguin yet again, the little bird excitedly announced that he was heading to the docks controlled by Maroni to raise taxes on the fishermen.
Daring to bypass his boss to raise taxes was proof enough that the Penguin’s ego had truly inflated.
Rex didn’t voice his opinion.
He knew Maroni would teach him a lesson on his behalf.
He only had a six-month stay here.
He had to seize every opportunity to knock the penguin down a peg to ensure he wouldn’t act recklessly after Rex left.
Furthermore, three months had already passed.
He had to accelerate the plot’s progress.
Early that morning, the Penguin took his subordinate, Gabe, to Maroni’s docks.
“Good morning, gentlemen.”
“Have you considered my proposal?” The Penguin asked a group of fishermen.
“We considered it, and no,” a lead fisherman stepped forward and said.
“We already pay enough.”
“No?” The Penguin shrugged.
“That was the tax rate Maroni set last year.
Now, I am raising the price.
If you want to blame something, you can only blame inflation.”
“Maroni said…” The fisherman had barely spoken when the Penguin interrupted him.
“Maroni, Maroni.
You are starting to annoy me,” he said, displeased.
“You are talking to me, Penguin.”
“You are the Penguin, so what?” The fisherman looked at him with a bewildered expression.
“I even reported you to the cops.”
“That’s Mr.
Penguin to you.”
The Penguin corrected him.
Then, he responded casually, “Also, making phone calls and all that…
it is far too naive.”
“The police on this side of the docks are all our people.”
“Tell that to the cops.” The fisherman pointed a finger behind him.
The Penguin turned around to look, just as a police cruiser happened to pull up.
Two burly police officers stepped out of the car, their expressions serious.
The Penguin approached them confidently, feeling certain that these officers wouldn’t dare do anything to him.
“Fellas, why the long faces?”
Before he could finish his sentence, the lead officer smashed a vicious punch into his face.
Guys I see zero support on this.
