The appearance of this breakfast instantly washed away Shu Qianzhi’s originally gloomy mood, and her world brightened along with the rising sun.

After spinning excitedly in place, she finally opened the bag the bodyguard had left on the table, unveiling the exquisitely packaged takeout container.

It was a French breakfast pastry—modest in portion but well-balanced in variety, just enough for one person to enjoy.Full novel: Crying in the Paranoid Brother’s Arms After Rebirth — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

And still, everything was to her liking.

Indeed, Ji Zechen understood her preferences; he could accurately match what she loved.

Shu Qianzhi took everything out of the bag, arranged it into an elegant plating, then picked up her phone to take a photo and sent it to Ji Zechen.

Along with a message:

【Thank you, brother, for the breakfast! It’s all things Ze Xi loves to eat. You should eat too, brother—don’t work too hard!】

After sending it successfully, Shu Qianzhi didn’t expect Ji Zechen to reply. She simply set her phone down and began to enjoy her lunch.

…

Ji Zechen had just arrived at the company when he received Shu Qianzhi’s message. He glanced down briefly at the content, then expressionlessly put his phone away, his long legs striding purposefully into the elevator lobby.

He took the private elevator, which was empty, yet he inexplicably felt his hands had nowhere to rest. Unconsciously, he raised a hand to adjust his tie.

The moment he did, his mind automatically conjured the sensation of that person tying his tie for him, along with her ever-soft, gentle voice.

But then, remembering her saying she often helped her brother with his tie, his heart tightened uncomfortably.

Annoying…

The elevator dinged as it reached the floor, the doors sliding open slowly. Ji Zechen instantly composed himself, casting aside all such meaningless thoughts.

Wan Feng, spotting his approach, immediately came over and stood beside him to report the latest work arrangements.

After relaying a series of matters, Wan Feng paused before presenting the latest updates regarding the person at Ji Zechen’s home.

“Master Ji, the boy the young lady bumped into at the clothing store yesterday is from the Shu Family. It’s said he kept calling her ‘sister’ when he saw her, and the young lady’s reaction was clearly flustered.”

The Shu Family?

Ji Zechen’s eyes darkened slightly, focusing on this detail as he mentally reviewed all known information about this so-called Shu Family.

Wan Feng continued, “From what I know, the Shu Family only has two heirs—one son and one daughter. When we contacted the Shu Family yesterday, they claimed the boy had mistaken her identity, and the ‘sister’ he referred to was the Shu Family’s young lady, Shu Zhishan.”

“So there’s still no lead on her background?” Ji Zechen cut straight to the point, uninterested in unnecessary details.

“Correct,” Wan Feng replied.

After all, the young lady had nothing on her that could verify her identity, and Master Ji had specifically instructed them to keep the investigation discreet. Their efforts were like searching for a needle in a haystack, making it extremely difficult to trace her origins.

“But this also suggests the young lady has no ulterior motives. She was likely just frightened and ran into the restroom to escape the boy.”

Wan Feng went on to analyze, his words clearly indicating his inclination to side with Shu Qianzhi.

“Hmm.” Ji Zechen’s tone remained flat, betraying no emotion.

“Master Ji, regarding the young lady’s amnesia, should we continue investigating the matter or focus on helping her recover her memories?” Wan Feng watched Ji Zechen’s expression carefully as he posed the follow-up question.

Ji Zechen answered almost without thinking, “Continue observing.”

He still didn’t completely trust Shu Qianzhi.

“Understood.” Wan Feng accepted immediately without another word, then hesitated while staring at a particular spot on Ji Zechen. “There’s one more thing.”

“Speak.” Ji Zechen let out a deep sigh, crossed his legs in the opposite direction, and waited for Wan Feng to continue.

Wan Feng pointed at Ji Zechen’s clothes. “Master Ji, your tie isn’t properly tied. It’s a bit messy.”

“Ah…” The tie again.

Ji Zechen shot Wan Feng an annoyed look, waving his right hand to dismiss him while his left hand went up to adjust the tie.

Wan Feng, perceptive as ever, quickly took the hint and made himself scarce, leaving the office entirely to Ji Zechen.

A simple tie – something he’d done countless times before – now proved inexplicably difficult to fix properly. Ji Zechen’s movements grew increasingly impatient as he struggled to get it right.

That sentence flashed uncontrollably through his mind again, along with that person’s every smile and expression.

She certainly had some talent. A car accident had wiped everything from her memory, yet she could only remember that she had a brother, and that she often helped him with his tie.

Her feelings for this brother she kept mentioning must run deep. He wondered how she would react if she discovered she’d been mistaking someone’s identity all along.

She’d probably be quite disappointed.

Given her temperament, she might even cry again.

If given the chance, he’d really like to meet this brother of hers and see what kind of person could tolerate her particular personality.
