“Alright, these two little ones, eh? Where did they go?”
As Wang Guihua spoke, she went to check the two small bundles that were bulging under the quilts, only to find there was no one inside.
Her shock immediately set off alarm bells in Aunt Wang’s mind. Sure enough, she saw Jiang Manman, who should have been sound asleep, open her eyes and sit up.
Looking at Aunt Wang, she said:
“Aunt Wang, that Wang Laicai currently in your house isn’t your son. Your son was eaten by a jackal spirit. The one in your house now is that very jackal spirit!”
Aunt Wang clearly didn’t believe her words.
“Pah! Are you trying to fool a ghost? How could my son have been eaten by a jackal spirit? And you dare say the son in my house now is a jackal spirit. Pah! I think you’re the fox spirit, otherwise how could you have bewitched my son so thoroughly. Let me tell you, tonight you’re coming with me whether you want to or not.”
Seeing how stubborn she was, Jiang Manman said:
“Fine then, I’ll go with you once, so you can see with your own eyes the true form of your jackal spirit son.”
Aunt Wang didn’t believe a word she said. As long as she came home with her, by tomorrow when word spread that she had spent the night at their house, she wouldn’t be able to clear her name.”
As Jiang Manman got up, Wang Guihua quickly asked her:
“Little sister-in-law, where are those two children? Where did they go?”
“Jiang Manman followed Aunt Wang to her house.”
It was a simple farmhouse courtyard, where the jackal spirit had long been waiting in the yard.
When he saw Aunt Wang bringing someone in, he walked up to Jiang Manman with a lecherous smile.
He looked her up and down, then sniffed her,
“You woman are truly tempting.”
“Is that so?”
Jiang Manman also looked at him with a smile.
And then… she directly took action!
She dashed toward the jackal in a swift movement, throwing a punch straight at his face.
The jackal spirit clearly hadn’t expected Jiang Manman to strike first.
His eyes grew even more greedy – he instinctively felt that by eating this woman, he could advance to the next level.
Fortunately, he had become a spirit before the founding of the nation. But since then, becoming spirits was forbidden, and spiritual energy had become scarce.
The resources he could use for cultivation had become even more precious.
Now that he had encountered this woman who was like Tang Monk’s flesh, he was determined to have a taste no matter what.
When Aunt Wang saw them fighting, she wanted to step in and mediate, while Uncle Wang nearby had a dark expression on his face.
To dare hit a man before even entering the household – what would happen after marriage?
He slapped the table and stood up, about to speak.
Then he heard his son let out a howl, his face suddenly transforming into that of a jackal, opening a bloody maw as he lunged to bite the Jiang family’s second daughter opposite him.
“Hiss~”
Uncle Wang nearly fainted from fright. He simply couldn’t believe it – it must be an illusion, it must be!
Looking at his wife beside him, she had already rolled her eyes back and directly fainted.
He was the head of the household – he couldn’t faint. Thinking this, he rubbed his eyes and looked again.
His arms and legs began to tremble, his physiological reactions beyond his control.
With a thud, he sat down on the ground, right on top of Aunt Wang, crushing her awake.
When Aunt Wang came to, she also saw her son – with a wolf’s head, his arms and hands already transformed into wolf fur, eyes glowing fiercely as he bared sharp fangs, currently fighting with the Jiang family’s second daughter!
After looking a couple more times, she remembered what Jiang Manman had said about her son having been eaten by the jackal spirit.
Her eyes rolled back, and she fainted again.
Uncle Wang also wanted to faint, but the stimulation was too intense – he instead couldn’t pass out.
Fortunately, Jiang Manman and the jackal demon fought their way outside, otherwise their house would have been demolished.
“My, my, my son!”
By this time, Uncle Wang had already imagined the worst—that his son had been eaten by the jackal demon, which then took on his son’s form.
Jackal Demon: I won’t take the blame for this!
Jiang Manman lured the demon out, fighting farther and farther away, even feigning injury to lead it up the mountain.
Once on the mountain, Jiang Manman stopped holding back. She went all out and twisted off the jackal demon’s head.
The jackal was now completely dead.
“Xuanwu, want to eat it?”
“No, this Divine Beast has standards. I don’t eat just anything.”
Jiang Manman shrugged and let it be.
Carrying the jackal’s body and head, she returned to the Wang family’s house, where both Wang Laicai’s parents were now awake.
The Wangs doted on Wang Laicai because he was their only son.
Seeing Jiang Manman approach with the jackal’s corpse and head, they were utterly horrified.
“You—you stop right there! Don’t come any closer! We don’t want that thing! Don’t bring it into our house!”
Jiang Manman thought for a moment and nodded.
“Fine, if you don’t want it, I’ll just throw it away then! By the way, since your son was killed by this jackal demon and I’ve slain it, the matter between our families is settled. Don’t come causing trouble for me again.”
Aunt Wang let out a wail and started crying.
The earlier commotion had already drawn attention, and now her crying, complete with sitting on the ground and slapping her thighs, made it worse.
“My son, you died so tragically! How could you be so unlucky! How am I supposed to live without you!…”
Jiang Manman twitched her mouth. With the neighbors starting to gather, it was time to leave.
Back home, she kicked open the door to Jiang Weiguo and his wife’s room.
Her elder brother and sister-in-law were in the midst of “contributing to the next generation of the motherland” when her sudden entrance startled them so badly that any “next generation” plans were promptly ruined.
She tossed the jackal’s head and body in front of them.
“Sis, you—”
“Don’t call me sis. From today on, I’m not your sister. She put something in my egg soup tonight and conspired with Aunt Wang to drag me over to the Wang family. And what happened? See this? This is Wang Laicai! To be precise, this jackal demon ate Wang Laicai and took his form. If I weren’t skilled, I’d be in a jackal’s belly by now. What kind of elder brother and sister-in-law are you? All these years, Mom said it—I owe her, but I don’t owe you two. From now on, stay out of my way. If you don’t, next time it won’t be a jackal’s head I twist off, but yours!”
With that, Jiang Manman picked up the jackal’s head and body and walked out.
The congealed blood stained their entire kang. After Jiang Manman left,
Wang Guihua reached out, wiped some blood, and looked at it. Confirming it was real blood, her eyes rolled back, and she fainted on the spot!
Jiang Weiguo’s mouth twitched violently. Shivering, he rolled off Wang Guihua and lay staring at the ceiling until dawn.
By daybreak, Jiang Manman was gone, and she had taken all her bedding with her.
Early in the morning, after Jiang Manman and her two children had eaten in the seventh-level minor world, she brought them out.
“Today, Mom will take you to the town supply and marketing cooperative to buy things, and we’ll get some candy too. How does that sound?”
“Great! Yes! That’s wonderful!”
“Hooray, we get candy!”
Seeing their delight, Jiang Manman felt equally happy. She took a deep breath and glanced around the yard—nothing worth stealing remained, and the gate didn’t even have a lock.
She decided not to worry about it and simply led the two children toward town.
Halfway there, however, they ran into Tang Yumin, who was riding his bicycle to town.
