Upon reaching the city, Lin Runjie parked the car at the spot designated by Su Liuying.
“Thank you, senior Lin!”
She opened the car door, stepped out, waved at him, and turned to leave.
“Liuying, please wait a moment!”
Lin Runjie called out to stop her, “Can you give me your phone number?”
“Of course!
Hand me your phone!”
Su Liuying took his phone, entered a series of numbers and dialed.
The ringtone of her phone in her bag began to sound.
“This is my number then!”
“Liuying, let’s stay in touch!”
Lin Runjie called out, not expecting that he would run into Su Liuying, the girl who had always been hidden in his heart, right after returning from abroad.
“Sure!”
Su Liuying squinted and grinned, flashing him a big smile.
Back in her rented room, Su Liuying collapsed onto the bed exhausted.
“What rotten luck!”
She suddenly sat up, found a morning-after pill and swallowed it, the dry pill making her cough incessantly.
Damn it!
Luckily, morning-after pills were available to her, otherwise having to go to the pharmacy to buy one would have been mortifying, not knowing what kind of looks the clerks might have given her!
It had been a long time since Su Liuying had visited the orphanage, so she decided to visit Mother Su before she started her new job.
As soon as she entered the courtyard, the children surrounded her at the sight of her.
“Sister Liuying, you haven’t been here for a long time!”
While distributing toys to them, Su Liuying smiled and answered, “Sister has to earn money to buy toys for you all!”
“Thank you, sister!”
Director Su Qing came over, delighted to see her, and exclaimed, “Liuying, you’re back!”
“Mother Su, I’m sorry, I haven’t been able to visit you more often!”
“Silly child, Mother Su understands you’re busy.”
Noticing that Su Qing seemed to be coughing continuously, Su Liuying quickly approached to support her, asking, “Mother Su, are you sick?”
“Oh, it’s just an old problem, no big deal!”
After saying this, Su Qing coughed several more times.
A bigger boy came running over and whispered in Su Liuying’s ear, “Sister, I saw Mother Su coughing up blood.
Is she going to die?”
The child’s words startled Su Liuying.
She reassured the little boy, “Don’t worry, it won’t happen.
Go play!”
The boy ran off, and Su Liuying, looking at Su Qing, said, “Mother Su, let me accompany you to the hospital for a check-up.”
“There’s no need, no need, I know my own body.
Why waste that money?”
Su Qing refused with a shake of her head. New chapters come out on g.com first.
With the orphanage’s finances already tight, a hospital visit would only make matters worse.
She knew all too well that these funds were supplemented by Su Liuying working several part-time jobs.
Without that, the orphanage would not have been able to keep going.
“Mother Su, you’re like my own mother.
I’m afraid of losing you!”
Su Liuying nestled into Su Qing’s embrace, acting spoilt.
Having been raised in the orphanage since she was a toddler, Su Qing told her she was about two years old when she was abandoned at the orphanage’s doorstep, so she had no background information.
The only clue was the necklace she wore around her neck.
Her name was also given by Su Qing, who had her take the surname Su.
As a child, she was as cute as a doll, hence she was named Su Liuying.
Her date of birth was estimated by Su Qing based on her age, and her birthday was set as the day she was found.
