Adding another stick to the burning firebox, Lin Ke held his hands out over the furnace, fingers spread, enjoying the warmth from the flames.

The furnace, built entirely of black stone, absorbed the heat perfectly, radiating enough warmth into the surrounding area to make it feel ten degrees warmer.

Sitting on the stone stool that was finally no longer freezing, Lin Ke watched the system’s loading progress while warming himself.Full novel: Cyberpunk 2077: Night City Monster Hunter — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Generating Class…] 87%

…

Well, nearly an hour had passed from chopping wood to lighting the fire, and only 40% had loaded.

Looks like another half hour was needed before he could obtain his transcendent class.

“Can’t just sit here waiting.

Might as well chop some more wood—this little bit won’t last long.”

Thinking this, he reluctantly got up, walked over to the supply chest, pulled out the heavy blade, and started hacking away again.

This time he didn’t need neat, thin kindling; anything that burned would do.

How ever it was most convenient.

*Bang—crack!*

*Bang—crack!*

…

Wood splinters flew.

Lin Ke stopped to rest every six or seven chops, stowing the chopped wooden blocks into his storage as he went.

Half an hour passed like this.

Aside from adding wood to the furnace once, he spent the entire time violently dismantling the supply chest.

In half an hour, he chopped about 40 times, using almost his full strength for every strike.

The result was that he was now gasping heavily for air.

His chest muscles throbbed with sharp pain from overexertion, his lower back was stiff and sore, and his hands and arms were so numbed by the recoil that he could hardly feel them.

It felt as if his hands no longer belonged to him.

So damn exhausting!

If it weren’t for survival, he would have quit twenty minutes ago.

But doing work for his own sake yielded rewards.

Where the box once stood, nothing remained.

In his storage, he had a pile of irregularly shaped wooden blocks totaling over 40 kilograms.

At the furnace’s burn rate, this would last about two days.

Thus, his survival time extended from two days to four, increasing his chances of surviving in this world.

After gathering the firewood, Lin Ke returned to the furnace and checked the text notifications in his mind.

[Class generated.

Player, please confirm class acquisition.]

“What if I don’t confirm?

Can you swap it for me?” He mocked the system internally and confirmed with a thought.

In anticipation, thoughts raced through Lin Ke’s mind.

What class would it be?

A Qi refiner?

Feasting on wind and dew, transforming into a rainbow to soar the heavens, living indefinitely on atmospheric energy?

Or a Mage?

Studying magic, mastering the elements, akin to a god?

Or even a Dou Practitioner?

Cultivating Dou Qi, Dou Kings turning Dou Qi into horses, Dou Emperors surrounded by beauties on both sides.

At the very least, being able to breathe fire would be nice!

[Player confirmed.

Hunter class loading…]

Lin Ke’s fantasies shattered into pieces.

The moment the system text appeared, Lin Ke closed his eyes as a scene flashed in his mind.

In a snow-covered forest, a hunter wrapped in a heavy padded coat and wearing a dog-skin cap had frost on his eyebrows and a bright red nose from the cold.

He slowly raised his wooden bow, drew the arrow back, and aimed at the prey he had tracked through the blizzard for a day and a night.

Of course, this wasn’t a scene played by the system; it was Lin Ke’s own mental movie constructed from films he had watched and his personal perception of the Hunter class.

The imaginary scene shattered, and Lin Ke felt his vision brighten.

Even with his eyes closed, an orb of silver-white light seemed to ignite in the darkness.

A sphere of white light swirled and bobbed in the gloom, its surface wrapped in wisps of silver fire that flared like solar prominences, making the orb look like a burning silver sun—mysterious, grand, and divine.

Then, the sun hurled a tongue of silver flame straight toward him.

With a loud rumble, Lin Ke felt his consciousness float upward.

As if undergoing an out-of-body experience, he actually saw his own physical body!

Silver flames ignited around his body, yet his clothes showed no sign of burning, nor did he feel any pain.

Under the silver flames, his flesh and bones gradually turned translucent.

Looking down from above, Lin Ke’s consciousness saw his own pale brain tissue.

Passing through his brain and looking past his collar, he could see flowing blood and pulsating internal organs.

Burning like this for about 10 minutes, the flames gradually receded, finally turning into specks of starlight that merged into his body.

As the flames dissipated, his consciousness returned.

Lin Ke hurriedly felt his body; the warm touch made him sigh in relief.

Is this what class loading is like?

Although “Hunter” doesn’t sound super high-end, the loading process was genuinely thrilling to watch.

And yet, Lin Ke felt surprisingly comfortable and light now.

All the soreness and fatigue across his body had disappeared.

Clenching his fists, he felt an endless surge of energy.

His body felt so light it seemed he could fly if he just pushed off, and his mind was clearer and sharper than ever before.

Sitting on the stone stool, Lin Ke hurriedly opened his attribute panel to check.

The light screen slowly unfolded, and the numerical values had changed:

After reading the attribute panel, what else could Lin Ke say except shout “Awesome!”?

The cheat was truly incredible!

His attributes alone increased by 6 points total!

No wonder he felt an endless surge of strength.

Physical stats he wouldn’t have dared dream of before were now his after a single class loading!

No wonder everyone wants a cheat system—a slight move of its hand alters fate itself.

If his attributes keep increasing through his Hunter talent, what would he eventually become?

Superman or Homelander?

Ah!

Such a tough choice, haha!

Lin Ke couldn’t help bursting into laughter.
