The pretty face.

The white hair.

The sexy figure.

The dangerous little smile, and the body language that said she could cut a man’s account empty before he noticed the knife.

Rook only let himself be surprised for a second.

It was 2076.

This should be the year Maine’s crew tore through Night City.

Lucy had probably not met David Martinez yet.

A faint smile tugged at his mouth.

‘Sorry, David.

In this timeline, I don’t plan to let Night City break her that way.’

He boarded the NCART and deliberately chose a car with fewer passengers.

Sure enough, Lucy slipped in after him.

During the ride, she lifted chips from several Arasaka employees with practiced ease.

By the time she reached him, her hand moved with the same casual rhythm, fingers angling for the two chips seated at the back of his neck.

He caught her wrist before she touched them.

Lucy blinked.

In the next breath, he had her pinned against the train door.

“What are you doing?”

For the first time that night, her netrunning trick had failed.

She looked up at him with a frown, more annoyed than afraid.

“What?” he asked, smiling.

“Going to pretend you didn’t do anything?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

She turned her face away and closed her eyes, clearly planning to deny the theft until the end.

He was an Arasaka employee, after all.

Telling him the truth would have been stupidity dressed up as honesty.

Since she would not admit it, he pulled her closer with one arm and reached into the back pocket of her shorts with the other.

A handful of stolen chips came out in his palm.

He leaned near her ear and kept his voice low.

“Not bad, little thief.

Busy night?”

Lucy’s brow arched.

Once caught in the act, she did not panic.

If anything, her smile turned warmer and more dangerous.

“Oh?

If you caught me, handsome, what are you planning to do about it?”

Her breath brushed the side of his neck.

He stepped back at once and released her waist.

That single opening was all she needed.

She placed both hands against his face, her lips curving as she studied him.

“What’s your name?

I don’t think we’ve met, but you look like you know me.”

As she spoke, her hands drifted from his face to his neck, then lower, tracing the hard lines of muscle under his clothes.

When she felt how solid he was, color rose in her cheeks despite herself.

He was not immune.

Blood rushed hot through him, and his guard loosened for half a heartbeat.

“I’m Rook,” he said.

“And no, we’ve never met.

You followed me all the way here.

Of course I got curious.”

“Is that so?”

Lucy wet her lower lip, then turned the tables.

With a quick shift of weight, she pressed him back against the door and launched an intrusion program into the chips at his neck.

“Let’s see what kind of toys you’re running.

Standard Arasaka R&D chip, nothing special.

Huh.

I can’t read the second one at all.”

Disappointment flickered across her face when she found the first chip.

The second one, however, caught her full attention.

She tried to breach it and hit nothing but a wall.

By then, he had recovered.

He caught her again, turned her in front of him, and pinned her there.

“Little thief,” he said, amusement edging his voice, “jacking into a stranger’s hardware is rude.”

“You…”

This time, the situation had truly slipped out of her control.

For a moment, tension sharpened through her body.

Then the whole car changed.

“Hey!

You an Arasaka employee too?

My scan says my chip is in your hand!”

A broad man in a suit marked with Arasaka’s logo stepped into view.

Around him, other passengers realized their chips were missing as well, and unfriendly faces turned toward Rook and Lucy.

Fortunately, the NCART reached the next station at that exact moment.

The doors opened.

He did not waste a second.

He lifted Lucy over his shoulder and bolted out of the car.

Instead of panicking, she relaxed almost immediately.

As he ran, she even stuck her tongue out at the people inside.

“So what if I stole your chips?

Come catch us if you can!”

“Shut up, thief.

Stop making it worse.”

He gave her pert ass a sharp slap and kept running.

If he had not just arrived in this world, and if he were not trying to avoid the NCPD and MaxTac on his first night, he would have handled the whole car then and there.

But Lucy still had the nerve to provoke them.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
