Silver had been feeling like doing something for a while.
He had been like this now for a few days since making his sword.
He is itching so much to do something that he can’t even meditate properly.
Well, he does know why this is happening to him.
As the saying goes, ‘with a sword in hand, the heart becomes restless.’
He had been wanting to test his new sword after having it.
He remembered that a new weapon, especially a melee weapon, has to taste some blood for it to be considered a real weapon, not just some good-looking display piece.
Plus he also needs to try using his sword skills in real combat to get better.
So he started preparing some things as he planned to go deep into the forest alone, maybe even check out that first mountain.
He also made new arrows using new arrowheads made out of the high-carbon steel.
He had made some money from the things he forged before, which he used to buy cheap healing potions.
He had finally prepared everything on this day.
“I am going now, Mother Mathron!” Silver shouted by the door in front of the orphanage.
“Be careful! And remember to not stay a night in there! If you don’t come back tonight, I will have to ask that hunter kid to find you in there,” the old matron said loudly and seriously as she came to see Silver off.
“I remember; I will be careful!” Silver said loudly as he waved goodbye and started jogging towards the forest as a warm-up.
He is wearing his full set of hunting gear.
There were new pieces added to it.
A new small chest plate that he forged himself using the new steel and folding technology together with greaves, an arm guard, and a circular shield that is also on his back and covers most of his back too.
He is wearing new leather boots for forest trekking and leather gloves.
He made a helmet and tried it, but it did not feel comfortable, so he is currently not wearing it.
His current bow is a better one, which was made according to the hunter’s specification, which the hunter helped him make.
This bow is definitely stronger than the previous one and is surely harder to pull the strings of, but Silver can easily do it.
The hunter was aghast as he saw Silver pull the strings of his own bow completely without struggling when he asked Silver to try it because Silver pestered him to make a stronger bow for himself.
So with a resigned sigh of feeling completely defeated, he helped Silver make one.
“At least I have a magical beast companion.” The hunter comforted his heart and boosted his own confidence.
Silver currently looks like a fourteen-year-old with a strong physique; it is the result of his continuous effort to train his body.
The humans of this world seem to be stronger in physical aspects than those in his previous life, which must be because of the various magical things in this world.
He is doing everything using the scientific method proven to be effective in his previous life, with a little adjustment to fit his current situation.
It did not take long for Silver to get into the forest as he inventoried the things he brought with him in his mind, carefully checking if he miraculously forgot something somehow.
Thankfully, no such accident happened.
So he quickly got alert and used his senses more actively.
His senses are like a wild beast’s now, nose as sharp as a dog’s, eyes as good as a bird’s, hearing like those of a rabbit, and sensitivity of a deer, not roe deer.
But even though he is moving with caution and alertness, he is still moving very fast since he is still quite familiar with this place.
In a few minutes, he traversed and moved through the forest he was familiar with, and then he became slower as he trod upon an unfamiliar place.
The trees here deep in the forest are very large, mostly trees that don’t have fruits, like oaks, or pine-like trees that bear nuts.
The ground condition is varied, with some places having tall grass and some being sparsely covered or not having any grass at all.
A cacophony of sounds can be heard all over the place, like the birds chirping or frogs croaking.
He harvested valuable herbs along the way, some herbs that were ignored in this world were familiar herbs that were very expensive in his previous life, like the so-called ginseng, which he had only ever seen on the internet.
He was also unfamiliar with it before; he only accidentally discovered one, which he thought was ginger, and brought it home, but when he compared it to real ginger, he quickly discovered that it was ginseng by looking through his memories.
“I still can’t tell how old a ginseng is. If I’d known, I would have watched more varieties of short videos in my previous life, especially the kinds with some special knowledge,” Silver muttered as he dug up a ginseng very carefully.
“The only clue I have is the leaf’s prongs. I remember reading somewhere that the more prongs, the better. The old matron thought it was ginger too when she saw it and was even doubtful when I said that this was a natural tonic. So I peeled and sliced a whole root and put it on the simmering meat stew in the kitchen. Then all the kids were so energetic that even after playing or running errands for the whole day, they still looked like they were not exhausted at all. This effect made the matrons’ eyes so wide in shock. Well, it made my eyes even wider in shock because I don’t remember ginseng having this kind of potent effect! I tried thinking of a reason, but in the end, I could only blame the fact that this is a magical world with gods, magic, and a dungeon.”
