“Hahaha, the children of Orario are all very cute, especially in bed.
If you’re willing, even goddesses are perfectly fine!”
“Oh, by the way, remember not to tell Asfi.”
The god you’re talking about…
it isn’t Ishtar, is it?
…That really isn’t necessary.
Xia Jia thought of the dark-skinned goddess who ran the Pleasure Quarter.
However…
Join the Hermes Familia?
Xia Jia was stunned.
After realizing he had arrived in the world of DanMachi (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?), he had naturally thought about joining a Familia.
Undoubtedly, while this world is often referred to as the “floor” of the 2D world and its overall combat power isn’t considered incredibly high, the [Falna]—a system capable of turning all one’s experiences into experience points to stably increase physical stats—is one of the best initial options in most “infinite flow” novels.
Coupled with the ability to awaken magic and skills that are highly subjective and “idealistic,” it can be said to be a “wish-fulfillment” cheat system.
But…
Hermes, as a god, is essentially an ultimate tool-man.
He is known for being strictly neutral, yet he is exceptionally obsessed with certain things, stopping at nothing to achieve his goals.
He can’t exactly be called an “evil god,” but compared to gods like Hestia who treat their Familia members like family, he is definitely not on the same level.
I wonder if the blue-ribbon goddess has descended to the lower world yet, or if she has received her first Familia member?
“Her—mes—Sama!”
“What could possibly be so important that you can’t tell me…”
In the blink of an eye, a cold, crisp voice rang out from behind the god and the boy.
“Are you thinking about something impure again?
And with another child, no less!”
The owner of the voice was suppressing her anger, but even as Xia Jia swayed his head from side to side, he couldn’t see who it was.
In contrast, Hermes had frozen in place.
The laughter that had been ringing out earlier was suddenly cut off.
Before Xia Jia could react, a massive impact struck Hermes in the abdomen, and the god was abruptly punched into the ground.
A huge humanoid crater suddenly appeared beside Xia Jia, causing him to swallow his saliva involuntarily.
He had been wrong.
Seeing Hermes twitching in the crater without dying on the spot, he finally took one thing seriously.
Even a god like Hermes has physical strength that is simply incomparable to someone like me, an ordinary person!
Xia Jia also truly realized that the combat power of high-level adventurers was not as weak as he had imagined.
The sudden killing intent prompted Xia Jia to immediately stand at attention and apologize:
“Heroine, have mercy!
I don’t know this god well at all!”
As the words left his mouth…
The air in front of Xia Jia fluctuated, and a dry-looking girl with short blue hair and silver-rimmed glasses slowly removed her mask, her figure becoming visible.
Asfi Al-Andromeda.
Bearing the title of [Al-Miraj] (The Man of Many Talents), she is one of the few holders of the [Mystery] development ability.
It is said she is also a princess of a kingdom across the sea…
It is worth noting that she has a secret crush on her own god.
From the thick dark circles under her eyes, it was clear that this Asfi was already the captain of the Hermes Familia, proudly serving as a “chosen” hardworking employee.
Hermes, for some reason, stood beside Xia Jia as if nothing had happened, once again attempting to persuade him:
“How about it, brother Xia Jia, want to join my Familia?”
Join the Familia and become a “chosen” worker like Asfi…
Xia Jia chickened out and declined politely: “I’d like to understand this world a bit better before I make a decision.”
“That’s fair.”
It was understandable that he would have such an answer; Hermes had no idea that Xia Jia possessed a natural “God’s-eye view” and knew this world like the back of his hand.
He shrugged and said: “The place we’re heading this time is the City of Sword Craft.
Would you have any problems with that?”
Not Orario?
Xia Jia pondered for a moment and nodded: “No problem.”
The City of Sword Craft is perhaps not well-known to the average person, as the core stage of the entire DanMachi story revolves around Orario, and there is very little depiction of cities outside this center of the world—the Dungeon City.
But the City of Sword Craft happened to be one of the cities Xia Jia knew about.
As the name implies, it is the city where the best swords in the world are forged.
In the original story, the [Magic Sword Blacksmith] Welf Crozzo, who left the Kingdom of Rakia, first settled in this city.
Hearing Hermes’ invitation, Asfi began to size up Xia Jia seriously, stroking her chin:
“Red hair, green eyes…
I feel like you look somewhat familiar…
Have we met somewhere before?”
“Haha, must be an illusion.” Xia Jia gave a dry laugh.
“An illusion?” Asfi’s eyes remained hesitant, then she changed the subject: “You look like you’ve been injured.
Come here.”
As she spoke, Asfi pulled a vial of potion from under her cloak, poured out a little, and wiped it on Xia Jia’s forehead.
The scraped wound healed quickly.
“This…”
“It’s nothing, just a regular potion.
You haven’t retrieved your loot yet, right?
Although surface monsters are very weak, they occasionally yield some magic stones and drops.”
Asfi reached out, and Xia Jia saw several rice-grain-sized magic stones and a shrunken finger bone lying in her palm.
These barely count as magic stone fragments.
They almost didn’t even produce a stone.
Xia Jia accepted the magic stones.
The three of them packed their luggage and headed toward the caravan nearby.
Xia Jia asked about some basic information, such as the major events that had occurred in recent years, though mostly he just listened to Hermes brag.
…
The night faded away.
At noon the next day, as Xia Jia followed Hermes’ caravan and arrived at the City of Sword Craft, looking at the tall city walls and the Demi-humans and Elves coming and going on the streets, Xia Jia gripped his fist secretly.
It’s starting, my adventure in another world!
After entering the city, Asfi brought a bag of gold coins to Xia Jia and instructed:
“Hermes-Sama has other matters to attend to.
This is the payment for the goods you sold, roughly 50,000 Valis.
If you spend it sparingly, it should be enough for half a month of expenses.”
Xia Jia didn’t pay it much mind, putting the money bag into his backpack.
Asfi continued: “You can wander around the city for the next few days.
If you’ve thought about whether you want to join our Familia, come back here in three days; we will be departing then.”
It was easy to see that Asfi had mixed feelings about Xia Jia.
She didn’t seem to want him to join the Familia, appearing worried that Hermes would take people out and cause trouble.
Before Xia Jia could open his mouth:
Standing to the side, the black-haired Dog-human Lulune Louis, who was holding her head with her hands, said nonchalantly:
“Although it’s Hermes-Sama’s intention, to be honest, brother Xia Jia, you don’t really fit into our Familia.”
“If you follow the formal recruitment rules, you would at least have to pass a test.”
This referred to a test regarding thievery, where the tester uses a magic-like technique to hide a coin in their hand, and the person being tested must guess where it is.
In other words, the entry standard for Hermes’ Familia is to have the aptitude to become a “thief.”
For someone like Xia Jia, who appeared straight-laced on the surface, he was somewhat incompatible.
So…
“If you can, it’s better to choose another Familia.”
Asfi pushed up her glasses and said calmly: “Lulune, you’re overstepping.”
“Yes, yes.” Lulune Louis shrugged and stopped the conversation.
Then Asfi turned her head and said to Xia Jia earnestly:
“Don’t mind it.
Honestly, I don’t want you to join the Familia, especially not in that way…
But I won’t oppose Hermes-Sama’s wishes.”
Xia Jia had a strange look on his face.
Are you talking about luring your man to the Pleasure Quarter?
Sorry, it was your own god who led me astray, okay?
I am the victim; you can’t blame me!
Helpless, there was no reasoning with a woman who was protective of her “calf.” Xia Jia nodded and said politely:
“Thank you, I understand.”
Waving goodbye to the Hermes Familia as they went to sell their cargo, Xia Jia’s eyes flickered, and he stepped onto the city street.
There was a reason Xia Jia followed Hermes and his group to this city.
He was looking for someone.
No.
A god.
“According to the information gathered from Asfi, it should be about three years before the start of the main story.
Based on the plot, that person should be settling down here.”
He silently recalled the god’s appearance as he inquired about the city’s gods along the way.
After paying a fee of 10,000 Valis, Xia Jia successfully obtained the information he wanted at a tavern and immediately set out, arriving at a weapon shop in the corner of the city.
Just as he was about to step forward and push open the door, the person he saw facing him made Xia Jia’s pupils shrink.
“Uh, Asfi, why are you here?”
“Delivering a letter to an acquaintance, Xia Jia-san.
On the contrary, why would you appear here?”
Asfi was expressionless.
The sunlight reflecting off her lenses made it impossible for Xia Jia to see what the girl was feeling.
He had the distinct feeling of a man cheating on his wife, only to be caught red-handed.
