Third Person's Point Of View

Miles away, in a forgotten and windswept kingdom, Vesporion Noctis stood as its ruler, overseeing a realm where daylight seemed an eternal stranger.

The land, once teeming with life, now languished under a pall of perpetual twilight, where the sun never truly rose, and the moon hovered low in the sky, casting eerie shadows over the crumbling stone.Full novel: Death's Favorite Daughter [Cursed • Werewolf • Academy • Dark Fantasy] — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

It was a place of solitude, a place where the rumors of its former glory had long faded into the cold, still air.

Vesporion was no ordinary ruler.

He was a wizard whose name was known and feared far and wide, his power and cruelty the stuff of legends.

His castle, towering and imposing, was crafted from blackened stone and surrounded by thick, enchanted walls.

It stood as a grim monument to his strength and dominance, perched at the very heart of the kingdom like a dark crown. Within the stone halls, he wove his magic and manipulations, bending the very fabric of reality to suit his whims.

But Vesporion was not just a wizard or a king.

He was a man wrapped in mystery, his true identity hidden from all who lived under his reign.

Always masked and cloaked in robes as dark as night, he transcended humanity, becoming an enigma that inspired fear and earned the reluctant respect of those who encountered him.

The mask he wore was both a symbol of his power and a barrier between himself and the world around him, leaving no one to question who he was beneath it.

Perhaps no one ever could.

On this particular night, Vesporion stood alone atop the highest tower of his castle, gazing at the vast expanse of sky above.

The wind whipped through his dark robes, which flowed around him like the wings of a bird in flight.

Before him, an ancient telescope stood, its polished lens pointed toward the heavens.

Beside it, an intricate astrology chart lay spread out, its symbols glowing faintly in the moonlight. To most, it would have been just another tool, another relic of magic.

But for Vesporion, it was much more. It was his way of peering into the universe's secrets, searching for something or someone that might finally give him the answers he sought.

His eyes narrowed as he studied the stars, tracing invisible lines between them. His mind was sharp, focused, the moment stretching out as he deciphered the cosmic language hidden in the night sky.

The chart held secrets that only he could understand, and in this stillness, there was a feeling of anticipation in the air.

Something was coming, something that had long been set in motion.

Vesporion was close to unraveling it.

At a distance, Helios, his most trusted disciple, watched in silence.

Helios was a man of strength, dedicated to his master’s cause, but unlike Vesporion, he wore no mask.

His face was plain, yet his presence was imposing, with dark robes flowing behind him.

He had served Vesporion for many years, his loyalty unwavering, though there was always a lingering curiosity within him.

What was it that drove his master? What was it that consumed him so completely?

Tonight, as he watched his mentor’s intense concentration, Helios couldn’t help but wonder what Vesporion had found.

"Master," Helios spoke up, his voice breaking through the heavy silence. "What have you seen? What’s happening?"

Vesporion didn’t respond immediately, his gaze still fixed on the sky and the chart. Helios stood still, sensing the weight of the moment. Something was stirring inside the wizard something beyond the scope of the stars, something deeply personal. The silence between them stretched longer, thick with an energy Helios couldn’t quite place.

Then, finally, Vesporion lowered his gaze. A faint scoff escaped his lips, and as he slowly turned his head, a smirk spread across his face a look that seemed both unsettling and triumphant.

"Eighteen years ago," Vesporion said, his voice low, controlled but full of bitterness. "When the Brotherhood of the Godhood Cult passed through this land, they killed my entire family. They left me alive, but they didn’t leave me unscathed. I’ll never forget what they did to me. The pain, the loss it’s something that never leaves you. But I made a promise that I would make them pay for every drop of suffering they caused. And I’ll start with the one who was the worst of them all."

Helios’s stomach tightened. He had heard the tales of the Brotherhood whispers of their brutality and the destruction they left in their wake but hearing Vesporion speak of them like this, so personally, made it all the more chilling.

"The first on my list," Vesporion continued, his voice dripping with venom, "is Icarus."

Helios stiffened at the name.

He knew Icarus.

The werewolf who had recently made it into the Lycan title.

Powerful.

Nearly untouchable.

Icarus wasn’t just a fighter; he was a legend in his own right, a warrior whose strength had made him feared by all who knew him.

Helios had always wondered how someone like Vesporion, a wizard of such extraordinary skill, could ever hope to defeat someone like Icarus.

As though reading his thoughts, Vesporion answered the question that had been silently on Helios’s mind. "Icarus is strong. One of the few lycans in the world. His power is unmatched. In raw strength, I can’t defeat him. But," Vesporion’s eyes gleamed, "I’ve found his weakness."

Helios blinked, surprised. "His weakness?"

A dark, unsettling laugh bubbled up from Vesporion’s chest, and he threw his head back, his laughter echoing across the night like a broken man’s madness. "Yes, Helios. Icarus may be powerful, but he’s made one fatal mistake."

Helios frowned, trying to piece it together, but it was clear that his master had something terrible planned.

"You see," Vesporion continued, his voice now tinged with a hint of madness, "Icarus doesn't know this, but he has a mate. And I’ve found her."

Helios’s confusion deepened. "A mate? But that’s... impossible, Master. It’s forbidden for a Lycan to have a mate, especially one who is bound to the teachings of Adolphus Noble School."

Vesporion’s smirk only grew wider, his eyes alight with a cruel satisfaction. "Ah, Helios. It is forbidden. But what do you think will happen when I bring that mate of his closer to him? When I strip him of everything he loves and force him to watch it all unravel?"

Vesporion raised his arms toward the sky, his laughter rising in pitch, more manic, more alive with the thrill of his own plans coming to fruition. "I’ll make him beg for mercy. I’ll make him pay for the suffering he caused me. And when I’ve crushed him, when he finally realizes how far I’ve gone... that’s when I’ll have won."

The wind howled as Vesporion stood there, unmoving, his gaze fixed on the stars, lost in the certainty of his revenge.

Helios remained silent, his heart heavy with the weight of his master’s words.

What was to come?

What would happen to Icarus when Vesporion’s vengeance was unleashed?

Helios couldn’t help but wonder how far Vesporion was willing to go and how much destruction would follow in his wake.
