Yukinoshita Yukino looked suspiciously at the heavy, brown-gray coconut in her hands.
“Drinking stale coconut water from a rotten shell can easily lead to severe diarrhea, which causes rapid dehydration.”
“I used to watch a lot of documentary TV shows like Man vs.
Wild in my spare time, so I still know a few basic things about island survival.”
“Besides, the juice of a fresh green coconut is much richer and far more nutritious than an old brown one.”
“I see…”
Yukinoshita Yukino realized Kato Jun was absolutely right, and she obediently dropped the dirty brown coconut back onto the sand.
“However, those green coconuts grow at the very top of the trees…”
She looked up at the towering trunks; the coconuts were dozens of feet in the air, and she couldn’t climb trees at all.
“Just step back and let me do it.”
Kato Jun took off his damp school uniform jacket, tossing it aside, and then quickly took off his shoes and socks.
After sizing up the rough thickness of the coconut tree and comparing it with the length of his uniform sleeves, Kato Jun decisively unbuttoned and took off his white dress shirt as well.
“Kato-san?!
What are you doing?”
Looking at Kato Jun, whose upper body was suddenly bare in the moonlight, Yukinoshita Yukino asked suspiciously, her voice pitching up.
She immediately took a few steps back, crossing her arms defensively on high alert.
This boy wouldn’t suddenly give in to his beastly instincts just because we’re alone on a deserted island, would he?
However, despite her guard being up, she couldn’t help but notice that while Kato-san looked somewhat thin in his uniform, the muscle lines on his bare torso were actually very defined.
These are the clear, lean traces of someone who exercises vigorously and consistently.
Staring at his unexpectedly sculpted back, Yukinoshita Yukino’s heart felt a little messy and confused.
“Okay, this should be sturdy enough to help me climb up.”
Ignorant of the girl’s internal panic, Kato Jun tightly knotted the sleeves of his white shirt, tying it into a strong figure-8 loop.
He first stepped his bare feet into the figure-8 knot he had made, using the fabric to grip the rough bark, and then he held the trunk of the tree with his hands.
Pushing off with his bound feet and pulling with his arms, he slowly and steadily shimmied up the tall coconut tree.
It’s really useful!
This is actually the proper islander technique for climbing a smooth palm tree.
It was the first time Kato Jun had personally tested this unique tree-climbing method he had only seen on television programs about Okinawa and Hainan.
The makeshift foot-strap was incredibly effective, and it didn’t take much effort at all for him to scale to the top of the swaying tree.
“Yukinoshita-san, stay away from the drop zone!
I’m going to start plucking the coconuts!”
Kato Jun motioned for Yukinoshita Yukino, who was staring up from under the tree, to back away a safe distance so she wouldn’t be hit.
It was no joke; falling coconuts actually killed more people every year than shark attacks.
“O-Okay!”
Seeing Kato Jun easily scale to the top of the towering tree in just a few practiced moves, Yukinoshita Yukino had opened her mouth in genuine surprise.
After hearing his warning shout, she snapped out of her daze and hurriedly moved away, feeling as though she were in a dream.
Boom!
Thud!
Boom!
After forcefully twisting off five or six heavy green coconuts and dropping them to the sand, Kato Jun cautiously climbed back down the trunk.
“Kato-san is amazing…”
Yukinoshita Yukino looked at the fresh bounty of coconuts that had fallen on the beach, involuntarily praising the boy as he put his shirt back on in front of her.
After finding a jagged rock to smash the top of the coconuts open, the two teenagers, who had been exhausted for hours, finally shared a meal with sheer excitement on their faces.
Although the taste of the warm coconut water was slightly sour, the feeling of hydration and fullness in their empty stomachs was still incredibly heavenly.
Both of them felt the lingering chill fade as their physical strength slowly began recovering.

“As expected of Kato-san, who is always ranked first in our grade…
you even excel at things like climbing coconut trees…”
If it weren’t for Kato-san being here, she probably wouldn’t have even been able to survive the very first night of this disaster.
Yukinoshita Yukino glanced gratefully at the capable classmate sitting across the campfire from her.
However, when she mentioned the words “first in our grade”, she slightly increased the sharpness of her tone.
This was the lingering academic resentment emanating from her subconscious; after all, she had been bitterly ranked second to him in test scores for years.
“It’s really just a trick I saw on a TV show once…”
Kato Jun breathed a heavy sigh of relief after drinking the sweet coconut milk and using a shell to scrape out and eat the soft white coconut meat.
Anyway, with fresh water and full stomachs, they should be able to safely survive tonight.
However, as Kato Jun closed his system panel, he noticed that Yukinoshita’s Affinity stat had actually risen by 5 points…
I’m fighting for my life on a deserted island, so why is this system acting like a dating sim?
