There was no denying the horrific reality; those two men were definitely going to be eaten by the savages.

Sora Ginko’s wide, terrified eyes had been chasing the figures of the two savages dragging the bamboo cage toward the bonfire.

Close your eyes!”

Kasumigaoka Utaha hurriedly reached out and tightly covered the eyes of the younger schoolgirl.

She knew that if the fourteen-year-old girl continued to watch the butchery unfold, an indelible, maddening shadow would permanently scar her mind.

As the frantic, pig-like screams came to an abrupt, sickening end, the entire holding pen fell into a strange, suffocating silence.

Inside the other bamboo cages, some people were shakily drawing crosses on their chests, while many others just sat there totally numb, crying silently into the dirt.

What they had been terrified of in their imaginations had actually just happened right before their eyes.

Those primitive savages really caught them to use as livestock for food.

“Kasumigaoka-senpai…

will we also…”

Although Kasumigaoka Utaha had covered her eyes so she didn’t see the gruesome details herself, Sora Ginko clearly understood what had just happened to the men in that cage.

“Don’t worry…

these savages don’t seem to like eating women first.

Our cage was placed at the very back of the pen, so we should be the absolute last…”

Kasumigaoka Utaha swallowed the final, horrifying word, unable to say it out loud, but Sora Ginko understood exactly what her senior meant.

They would be the last ones to be eaten.

“I…

I don’t want to die…”

Sora Ginko threw her arms around Kasumigaoka Utaha, burying her face in the older girl’s chest as her whole body trembled uncontrollably with fear.

“As long as we can survive just a little longer until the rescue team comes to search the island, we won’t die…

don’t worry…”

Kasumigaoka Utaha gently rubbed the younger girl’s back, trying her best to comfort the trembling Sora Ginko in her arms.

The other party is only fourteen years old; honestly, it is already incredibly brave of her not to be scared into wetting herself in such a terrifying situation. Find the original chapter at novelping.com.

Alas…

if this were one of my light novels, this would be the exact moment a heroic ‘Prince’ would burst through the jungle to rescue the two distressed ‘Princesses’.

Kasumigaoka Utaha sighed bitterly in her heart.

At this horrifying moment, although the sheer trauma suddenly gave her a lot of vivid inspiration for writing dark fantasy novels, she was not happy about it at all.

Looking at it this way, it would actually be extremely lucky for us to simply starve to death in this cage before being dragged out by the savages.

“Senior sister is right.

As long as you can hold on to the very end, there is still hope…”

The same is true of a seemingly lost shogi match.

You must never surrender until the king is truly trapped.

I don’t know where Senior Brother is right now…

This school trip was a joint trip with both the junior high and the high school…

Sora Ginko squeezed her eyes shut and desperately called out to her senior brother, Kato Jun, in her heart.

…

“Great!

You’re finally awake!”

On a different beach miles away, a girl with bright pink hair tied into distinctive dumpling-shaped buns happily supported another girl’s body on the sand.

“Where is this…?”

Kato Megumi slowly opened her eyes, her usually flat expression tinged with mild confusion.

Her memory was still completely stuck in the terrifying moment when the plane cabin tore apart and she frantically hugged her older brother.

“This place seems to be a completely uninhabited island…”

Yuigahama Yui brushed her long, seawater-soaked pink hair out of her face and tried her absolute best to show a reassuring smile to Kato Megumi.

“Are you…

my brother’s classmate?”

Kato Megumi recognized her at a glance; this pink-haired girl dressed in a slightly flashy, ‘gal’ style usually sat somewhat near her brother’s seat, so she had some vague impressions of her.

“Your brother?

Wait, is Kato Jun-san your older brother?”

“Yes.

Well, my name is Kato Megumi.

Thank you for saving me.”

Kato Megumi slowly stood up from the wet beach, brushing the sand off her skirt, and then calmly looked around at her environment.

Looking out from the coastline, she deduced this should be a rather small island, but there seemed to be a much, much larger, mountainous island looming directly in front of this smaller one.

The ocean channel between the two islands did not look too incredibly far, but given the rough currents, you definitely couldn’t get through if you just tried to swim.

The two of them were currently marooned on this smaller island.

“No…

No…

I didn’t save you!

In fact, the two of us must have been washed onto this beach together by the sea currents.

I just happened to wake up a little bit earlier than you…”

Yuigahama Yui waved her hands and explained in a panic, too honest to want to be mistakenly praised by the girl as a savior.

“My name is Yuigahama Yui.

You can just call me Yui if you want.

But it seems to be just the two of us on this island…”

Yuigahama Yui smiled reluctantly, and then her expressive face gradually became extremely gloomy and tearful.

A school trip was originally supposed to be a very fun, exciting thing, but they suddenly encountered a catastrophic plane crash and ended up stranded on a deserted island…

The mood of the pink-haired gal plummeted to rock bottom.

“I see.

Then thank you for taking care of me while I was unconscious, Yui-san.”

Unlike her panicked companion, Kato Megumi calmly brushed the wet, broken hair away from her forehead, and then turned to face the sun to determine whether it was currently morning or afternoon.
