Chapter 4: The Vault: Realm of the Four Kings

Deviant Kings: Claimed by The Four Lycan Kings

Deep beneath the ancient foundations of the Royal Lycan Academy lay The Vault—a subterranean sanctuary accessible only to the Four Thrones. Here, the future rulers of the four greatest Lycan kingdoms dropped their public masks.

Zyran sat swirling a glass of dark amber liquor, his lethal charm radiating even in the dim light of the fireplace.

"Well, look who finally decided to crawl out of the courtyard," Zyran purred, his voice smooth but laced with a subtle, mocking growl. He didn’t bother to look up from his glass. "You smell like ozone and a heavily bruised ego, Blake. Did one of the low-ranking omegas forget to bow to you today, or did a highborn princess finally realise your lines are recycled?"

Blake scoffed, running a hand through his messy hair as he threw himself onto the leather sofa, kicking his feet up onto the table. "Shut up, Zyran. Seriously. I ran into something... weird out there. A new transfer student. Completely off the grid."

"Off the grid?" Zyran chuckled, a dark, dangerous sound. "In this academy? Every bloodline is catalogued before they even take their first breath, Blake. No one enters these gates without a pedigree."

"That’s the thing," Blake muttered, his eyes narrowing as he recalled the plain hoodie, the flat, completely unimpressed gaze, and the total lack of an identifiable scent. "She had no house colours. No highborn attitude. Nothing. But that’s not what stopped the courtyard."

The heavy oak doors of The Vault groaned open, and Raven stepped into the sanctuary. His immaculate uniform was perfectly intact, but his stoic expression was locked tight, his aura still crackling with a residual, protective energy.

Blake tilted his head back, a sharp, knowing smirk creeping onto his face. "Why don’t you ask our Lord Protector? He seemed very keen on dragging her away by the wrist before I could get a proper introduction."

Zyran finally looked up, his eyes flashing with sudden amusement. Keiran pushed off from the stone pillar, stepping into the firelight, his gaze locked entirely on Raven. The air in the room instantly grew suffocatingly dense as the power of the heirs clashed in silence.

"Is that true, Raven?" Zyran murmured, setting his glass down with a soft clink. "You broke your own code of absolute detachment for a nameless transfer? Who is she?"

Raven walked past them without a single flicker of emotion on his rugged face, poured himself a drink, and turned to face the three men who ruled the academy alongside him.

"Her name is Adeline," Raven stated, his voice dropping into a low, commanding rumble. "Her safety is guaranteed under the House of Dravenmoor. She is completely off-limits to all of you."

Blake leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees, his eyes gleaming with a dangerous, competitive thrill. "Off-limits? You know how this works, brother. The more you try to hide a secret in this castle, the more we want to tear it apart."

Raven didn’t flinch. He raised his glass, taking a slow sip, his expression entirely unreadable. "It isn’t a secret, Blake. It’s a royal decree. Touch her, and you challenge the House of Dravenmoor. It’s that simple."

"A royal decree for a girl?" Zyran scoffed, a dark, intrigued smile playing on his lips. He stood up from his armchair, his fluid grace drawing the eyes of the other three. He walked over to the centre of the room, stopping just a few feet from Raven. "You’re hiding something, Raven. A Lycan prince doesn’t act as a personal bodyguard for a charity case just because of ’an invaluable service.’ What is she really? A runaway princess? A spy?"

"She’s a student," Raven replied, his voice dropping an octave. "And she is none of your business."

Keiran finally moved. His boots clicked softly against the stone floor as he stepped into the light. Unlike Blake’s playful arrogance or Zyran’s flashing charm, Keiran radiated pure, unadulterated menace. He was the executioner among them, the one whose wolf side was always clawing right beneath the surface. His piercing eyes locked onto Raven’s.

"You’re tense," Keiran noted, his voice a low, gravelly rasp that immediately cut through the bickering. "Your scent is spiked with protective pheromones, Raven. You aren’t just protecting a political asset. Your Lycan is restless."

Blake sat up straighter, his smirk widening. "I knew it. I felt it out there too. When I got close to her, she didn’t just flinch—she froze like a rabbit staring down a hunter. But she didn’t smell like fear. In fact, she didn’t smell like anything." Blake’s eyes narrowed as he tapped his chin. "A wolf at this academy with absolutely no scent? That’s impossible. Unless she’s masking it."

"Or unless she’s wolfless," Zyran added, his eyes flashing with a sudden, vicious realisation. He chuckled, though the sound was devoid of warmth. "Imagine that. A broken defect slipping into the Royal Academy. If the high council finds out—"

"The high council won’t find out anything," Raven interrupted, his stone mask finally cracking to reveal a flash of lethal fury. He set his glass down on the table with enough force to crack the crystal base. "Because none of you is going to breathe a word about her to anyone. I paid my dues to secure her place here. Do not make me regret keeping you three as allies."

Blake raised his hands in mock surrender, though his eyes remained sharp and calculating. "Relax, bro. We’re brothers. Your secrets are safe in The Vault." He stood up, stretching his massive frame, a lazy grin returning to his face. "But the classroom? The campus? That’s neutral ground. You can’t shield her from the entire academy, Raven. And if she crosses my path again... I can’t promise I won’t play with my food."

"I told you outside, Blake, and I’m only going to say it once to the rest of you," Raven said, his dark eyes narrowing to cold slits. "Adeline is under my personal jurisdiction. Her records are locked in the Student Council database under maximum security. No one touches her. No one investigates her. And no one speaks her name in this academy unless the request goes directly through me."

"Jurisdiction?" Zyran mocked, letting out a sharp, breathless laugh that carried absolutely no warmth. He took another step forward, aggressively invading Raven’s personal space, his eyes burning with hostile defiance.

"Since when does the untouchable use his official power to shield a wolfless, low-born stray? Look at the facts, Raven. She shows up on day one looking like a beggar, bumps into Blake, and within five minutes, she has you dragging her by the wrist into the private wing. Open your eyes, bro. She’s playing you."

"She isn’t playing anyone," Raven snapped, his chest rising and falling heavily as his aura began to crack.

"She’s a gold-digging parasite, Raven!" Zyran growled, his dominant Lycan voice slipping out, a raw vibration demanding his brother see reality. "Girls like her know exactly what they’re doing. They use their fragile, wolfless acts to look like helpless victims so powerful men will fight over them. She’s looking for an elite pack to latch onto, and you just handed her the keys to the castle!"

In a flash of pure, blinding speed, Raven closed the distance. He lunged forward, grabbing the lapels of Zyran’s expensive designer shirt and slamming him backwards against the velvet-lined pillar of the booth. The heavy impact echoed through the silent cavern of the room.

"Watch your fucking mouth," Raven hissed directly into Zyran’s face.

His fangs visibly lengthened, his eyes flashing a dangerous, predatory gold. "You don’t know anything about her. You don’t know where she came from or what she’s been through. If I catch you, or your little fan club of pack princesses, breathing in her direction, I will personally strip your syndicate’s funding and lock you out of the elite circle. Try me, Zyran."

Zyran’s jaw clenched, his hands coming up to grip Raven’s iron wrists. The two stood locked in a suffocating battle of raw dominance, the heavy scents of cedar and dark liquor thick in the air. Zyran’s eyes burned with a venomous intensity. He hadn’t even met this Adeline yet, and she was already turning his best friend like bros against him, fracturing the perfect hierarchy they had built since childhood.

"You’re losing your mind over trash," Zyran whispered, his voice dripping with pure malice as he stared right back into Raven’s eyes. "But fine. Protect your little pet. Hide her in your office. But remember, Raven... we share the same classroom. Today is just orientation. Tomorrow, the real semester starts. She can’t hide behind your blazer forever."

Raven stared at him for one last, tense second before brutally releasing his grip, pushing Zyran back. He straightened his own collar, his volatile aura slowly settling under an icy control.

"She won’t have to hide," Raven said coldly, turning his back on them as he walked toward the door. He stopped at the threshold, looking over his shoulder at the three Alphas who ruled the campus with him. "Just remember the warning. Stay away from her."

Zyran smoothed down his wrinkled shirt, his breathing shallow. He didn’t want to break the bond between them. They were non-blood brothers, bound by years of shared secrets and absolute rule over the campus. A single stray female wasn’t worth fracturing the strongest alliance in the academy.

Relaxing his posture, Zyran let out a soft, self-deprecating laugh, the dark malice instantly melting back into his signature, casual charm. He raised his hands smoothly in mock surrender.

"Alright, alright. Chill, Raven," Zyran muttered, his voice dropping into an easy, lighthearted tone as he smoothed down the front of his shirt. He looked back at his friends. "No need to take off my head. If he says she’s off-limits, she’s off-limits. I’m not looking to pick a fight with the President over a transfer student."

Blake watched the immediate shift and let out a loud, booming chuckle, his playboy smirk returning in full force as the suffocating pressure in the room finally lifted. He stood up, stretching his massive frame, and walked over to the table with careless ease.

"Damn right," Blake teased, his eyes crinkling with amusement as he looked at Zyran. "Man, I just thought she was cute! If I knew she was your personal project, Raven, I would’ve rolled out the red carpet for her myself. You know I love you, bro."

Kieran finally stood up from his shadow in the corner. His massive frame moved with an effortless, quiet grace as he walked over to the private bar, grabbing a fresh bottle of top-tier bourbon and four heavy crystal glasses.

"Let it go," Kieran spoke up, his gravelly baritone grounding the room as he poured the golden liquid, the heavy thud of the bottle acting as a reality check. "We have enough pack politics to deal with before the semester formally starts tomorrow. Drop the drama. Come on, let’s just have a drink."

When Raven returned to the table after pulling himself together, he stared at Zyran for a long, quiet moment, measuring the sincerity in his brother’s eyes. Seeing nothing but casual, relaxed compliance, Raven sighed, the rigid tension finally leaving his broad shoulders. He walked over to the leather couch, sliding into the center seat.

Zyran took his spot opposite him, a loose, easy smile on his lips as he picked up his glass. "To the first day of the final year. May the faculty leave us the hell alone."

"Amen to that," Blake laughed, clinking his glass against Zyran’s before sinking back into the plush cushions. "Seriously though, Raven, you’ve got to give us some credit. You’ve ignored every single high-society Luna on the East Coast for three years. Can you blame us for getting shocked when you show up holding hands with a girl in an oversized hoodie?"

Raven took a slow sip of his drink, his dark eyes fixed on the amber liquid. "She needed a safe place to land. That’s all. It’s a favour for an old contact."

"A favour," Zyran repeated smoothly, swirling his bourbon. He kept his tone completely casual, his voice light and teasing, showing Raven that everything was fine between them. "Well, consider her ghost status approved by the syndicate. If anyone tries to mess with your ’favour,’ I’ll have my guys look the other way while Blake locks them in the cells."

"Already on it," Blake grinned, winking. "No one gets past campus security without my say-so anyway."

Kieran took a seat at the end of the table, taking a quiet drink. "We should review the combat arena schedules for the week. The lower-year packs are already challenging each other for rank."

The conversation shifted seamlessly into the familiar, easy rhythm of four powerful Alphas who trusted each other implicitly. They talked about the upcoming training cycles, the new academy budget, and the seasonal pack galas they all despised attending.

On the surface, everything was back to normal. The bond between the four Kings remained completely unbroken. But as Zyran laughed at another one of Blake’s ridiculous stories, his eyes flicked toward the heavy doors, a secret, quiet curiosity burning deep inside him.

He wouldn’t break his relationship with Raven. But tomorrow, they were all sitting in the same classroom. And Zyran was highly anticipating his first real look at Adeline.
