Everyone was lined up in order of rank, from strongest to weakest.
Daxxel, however, was still nowhere to be seen.
Someone in a purple cloak stood on the stage, which was always there, they said nothing and waited.
Several minutes passed, no teachers were present.
Only students and the person in the purple cloak were there when suddenly a loud crash rang out.
Daxxel was thrown into the training room; he was badly injured and had lost a lot of blood.
A young man entered the room; he had thrown Daxxel from the door into the training room.
“Oh dear, look who we have here.
So many teenagers, and there he is, Avur Syofor, isn’t he?
We’ve been looking for you.”
He has a short haircut, yellow hair, an earring in his left ear, and wears the same purple cloak, but his face is visible; under the purple cloak, only some blue clothing can be seen, and he is wearing normal boots; he has a scar above his left eye and blue eyes.
Avur was confused.
Why were they looking for him?
Was this Liliana’s plan to make Avur’s life at the academy a living hell?
Wasn’t this going too far?
The young man held out his hand to Avur: “Are you coming with us or should we torment your friend a little longer?” he said with a malicious grin.
Daxxel desperately wanted to save Avur.
“No, Avur!
Don’t go with them, they’re cultists from the heres—” Before he could finish his sentence, the other person, wrapped in a purple cloak, placed a sleeping spell on him.
Avur was scared; he didn’t know what was happening.
First Daxxel had ignored him, and now he was protecting him?
And then the same person in the purple cloak who had helped Avur escape the guards who wanted to kill him appeared.
Who was good now, and who was evil?
Who was actually telling the truth?
Why is Daxxel warning me to not go with them?
And what did he want to say?
I thought he’d been manipulated by Liliana or something.
What’s going on?
Avur took a deep breath and trusted his friend’s words: “I’m not going with you.
I’m staying here, and that’s final,” he said, assuming a fighting stance.
Other students ran away, tried to get the teachers, or were too afraid to fight; even Liliana’s legs were shaking violently.
“Oh, what a shame.
I suppose if I cut off your legs, you’ll submit to us.” The young man pulled out a fyon blade and swirled it between his fingers.
Fyon isn’t ordinary iron; it’s magical iron.
Without magic, it dissolves.
This means that if your magic is strong enough, this blade will cut through anything.
It costs over eigthy gold coins—a lot of money in this world.
Avur wanted to block… but he couldn’t detect a single movement from the young man.
The man had used an illusion and transformed himself into the fyon blade.
Since the blade wasn’t particularly large, Avur only saw the illusion of the still young man as the blade slowly snaked beneath him, severing his legs.
He started with his left leg, Avur felt it and immediately dodged, but in doing so suffered a slight cut on his ankle.
The fight continued, but after a few minutes the young man stopped using his illusion.
Avur had figured out how his trick worked.
He could transform anything he touched into it, but only if he touched the object or person during the fight.
He had to touch his blade and activate his illusion to create it.
If he touched the blade, released it, and then tried to use his illusion, it wouldn’t work, as it only activated when he was actually holding the object or person he wanted to use for his illusion.
This way, he could either transform himself or use an illusion that was visible to everyone.
They both fought in close combat, because if either of them were weakened by excessive use of magic, they could easily pass out. Read this novel at g.com for the best experience.
Since the young man didn’t use his illusions too often, he seemed to have his own limits that he didn’t want to exceed.
Otherwise, he would be easy prey for Avur in his exhausted state.
Avur launched several attacks: a jab, an uppercut, and a liver shot.
The young man dodged most of the blows, but some still landed.
Avur’s sweeping kick caught him in the feet, sending him flying backward and sending him sprawling to the ground.
Avur then repeatedly punched him in the face, held him tight and choked him.
Avur was so engrossed in the moment that he didn’t notice the other person, wrapped in a purple cloak, flying towards him with gravity magic.
This person was using an anti-gun; if they shot Avur, any injuries inflicted by the gun could not be healed with magic, meaning he would die, as it would take too long to help him if he were hit in the heart.
Avur finished off the young man and turned around when he heard Pixie shout, “Behind you!” It was too late.
The person in the purple cloak had already fired.
Meanwhile, Daxxel cursed himself inwardly for not having been able to protect his best friend while he slept.
When he heard the gunshot, he woke up and saw Avur’s shocked expression – he knew he was going to die.
Daxxel forced himself to his numb feet.
He wept and used the lightning step to place himself between the bullet and Avur.
He knew he wouldn’t make it alive because he couldn’t feel even a part of his body.
He forced himself to wake up, but his body was still asleep.
Nevertheless, he managed to use a lightning step to protect Avur.
Daxxel was shot in the chest… His eyes were half-closed; he knew he was close to death.
He tried to attack the person in the purple cloak, but he couldn’t because he couldn’t move his legs or breathe.
Instead, he hugged Avur, sobbing and repeatedly apologizing for not having been a better friend.
Avur wept too; he couldn’t believe that Daxxel was dying and apologizing to him.
Until Avur said, “It’s alright, Dax, stay with me.
I don’t want to be alone.
I can’t do anything without you.
We’re best friends, after all, aren’t we?”
He returned Daxxel’s hug, while the person in the purple cloak didn’t attack, but instead planned something…
Daxxel didn’t move after saying, “Yes, best friends…forever…” …he was really dead…
Avur cried out.
He was angry, frustrated, and sad all at once.
He couldn’t believe it; his best friend had died in his arms.
How was he going to tell Daxxel’s family?
His sister would probably cry just as bitterly as he did.
Avur heard nothing for several minutes; his screaming sobs echoed in the training room.
He came to his senses.
He wiped the tears from his eyes and looked at the person in the purple cloak who was talking to themselves, until he looked at Avur and said, “Do you know how much this boy has done for you?”
Avur was confused, but asked with a shaky voice: “W-what do you mean by that?
What has he done for me that I couldn’t possibly know about?”
The person in the purple cloak replied, “He secretly protected you every time he fought against us.
And for what?
Seemingly only to protect his beloved friend.
Every time you thought he was ignoring you, he saved you by sacrificing himself countless times.
Every time you said your goodbyes, he was fighting me and my comrade.
All this without your knowledge.
That’s why my comrade brought him here.
We finally defeated him.
And now he’s dead.”
Avur’s eyes widened.
“He did all this…
for me?” He was on the verge of crying again, but he suppressed it.
The person in the purple cloak was about to speak again when Headmaster Jivua Kodreux entered the training room.
His magical aura enveloped the entire room, causing everyone present to fall to the ground.
No wonder he’s the headmaster; he’s incredibly powerful.
He let the others go, Pixie grabbed Avur and left Daxxel’s body behind, as it was too risky to carry it because there might still be other cultists somewhere.
However, Pixie did not lead Avur back to the teachers, but to a secluded area behind the academy.
She pushed Avur against the wall and silenced him with her hands.
“I have something very important to tell you,” Pixie whispered in his ear.
He nodded, and Pixie took a deep breath before saying, “I love you, Avur.
I really do.” She leaned closer to him.
Avur’s face instantly turned red; he could not have imagined that anyone would harbor such deep feelings for him since Bironica had used him.
“So, maybe you’d let me kiss you?
Just this once.
One of us might die here, so I want to take my chance now before one of us gets killed by these cultists.” Their lips were only inches apart.
Avur’s heart was racing.
Was he finally going to get his first kiss?
“I guess so…
but I’m still sad because my best friend just died.” He closed his eyes and let her kiss him.
Instead of a kiss, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his stomach that tore him in two.
He opened his eyes and saw Pixie, who was looking at Avur’s severed body with a malevolent and dark expression.
His torso was separated from his lower body, causing him to fall to the ground.
“Huh?”
Avur didn’t understand what was happening.
Why am I lying on the floor, and why is my body split in two?
Pixie was just a seventeen-year-old beast-woman girl; she would never kill me, would she?
Had she always wanted to kill me?
Or was it something else?
But she was looking at me so…
evilly.
He hears her laughing maniacally: “Did you really think I could ever fall in love with someone like you?
You’re so disgusting, you probably only like girls for their looks.
I would never kiss you.
And everything between us was calculated.
It seems his plan worked out exactly as he expected.
I guess you can’t hear me anymore.
Good luck dying!”
Avur’s eyes were empty.
He was dead, but then a portal opened.
His only thoughts were: “Screw them all!
I never belonged to this academy.
Daxxel was my only true friend.
Everyone else is using me or trying to kill me.
I’ve had enough!”
The portal glitched and he heard a crunching sound until he lost consciousness.
