The environment around Emma and her group was freezing, wet caverns full of stalactites, stalagmites, black pools, and echoing corridor’s, the labyrinth felt alive with Atlantean magic, the entrance to the labyrinth was nothing more than a narrow fissure in a frozen Coral Cliff.
Emma held her breath as they squeezed through, Frost crackling around their clothes.
Carlos’s teeth chartered.
“could this place be any colder?”
Ethan produced a soft blue orb of light, the glow pulsing in the gloom.
“Don’t complain. you are the one who teleported us halfway across the ruins”.
“Be quiet”, Emma whispered.
“listen”, The sound of water dripping echoed endlessly.A draft hissed from the depths, as if the cavern itself exhaled.
Sarah shivered and drew closer to Ethan’s orb.
“it’s like this place is…..watching us”, they followed the narrow passage until it opened into a vast underground chamber.
Stalactites hung like dagger teeth from the ceiling.
stalagmites rose like pale sentinels.
Etched into the rock, glowing runes flared, Emma traced them with her fingers.
“GUARDIAN BOUND. KEY SEALED. TRESPASSERS FACE THE PRICE”
Carlos squinted.
“That’s a friendly welcome” Emma’s breath fogged the air “It’s Atlantean. It’s a warning”
Sarah crossed her arms.
“We don’t have a choice.we need that key” A low moan of wind rattled the cavern, as if something in the Stone groaned awake
The passage forked three ways.
Emma swallowed.
“which one?” Carlos closed his eyes, reaching with his power.
“I can….glimpse possible paths.” His face twisted.
“But they are blurred. It”a like time is shattered here.
deliberately.”
Ethan raised his shield arm “we stick together, no splitting up”
Sarah touched one of the stalagmites.
she jerked her hand back.
“That’s blood”
The stalagmites pulsed, almost like a heart beat.
Emma’s voice wavered “It’s alive. or possessed”
As they advanced, the tunnels narrowed, then opened a hall lined with black pools.
Reflections rippled.
faces appeared on the water surface _distorted, screaming Sarah stumbled “They are souls, trapped”
“Turn back, this is your last Mercy.”
Emma stepped forward “we are here to stop the demons.
we don’t want to fight”
“Your world will fall regardless.
I am BOUND I cannot let you take the key”
The path split again.
This time fog rolled in thick and cloying.
Ethan’s orb dimmed , swallowed by shadows, they moved in a single file, shapes twisted in the mist
Carlos saw his mother, screaming for help in a ruined City.
Sarah heard whispers promising her power enough to control legions of demons.
Ethan saw himself failing to protect them , their blood on his hands.
Emma heard the ocean roar with voices: “You are no true Atlantean. You will soon them all”
Sarah screamed.
Ethan’s shield flared, cracking the illusions.
“focus on my voice!!!” he yelled.
Emma forced her eyes open, shaking “keep going . Don’t stop. It want’s us lost”
They emerged into a frozen cavern.
Icicles as tall as trees jutted from the ceiling.
In the center sat a colossal figure made of ice, fused with Stone_ an Atlantean spirit bound there.
It raised it’s head, eyes glowing blue-white “you carry Atlantean blood. why would you steal what we sealed away?” Emma stepped forward surprised she had no idea of her Atlantean heritage, no wonder she was threatened with it at the fog.
“We are not stealing it. We are saving our world”
The spirit roared, cracking ice around it.
“All who seek the key must prove they will not fall to darkness!!”
Icicles fell.
Ethan raised a shimmering shield, deflecting shards.
Carlos teleported behind the guardian to distract it.
“Come on, ice giant! Over here!”
Sarah closed her eyes, feeling the demonic energy in the cavern.
she reached with her gift commanding the darkness, forcing it to retreat from them. You are reading on g.com, the official source.
The spirit howled “You dare command the abyss?”
Emma’s voice rang out : “I don’t want command, I want balance!!”
The runes on the cavern walls flared.
The spirit hesitated.
The ice receded enough for Emma to approach, she laid a hand on the frozen giant’s chest.
“show me,” she whispered.
“Show me why you guard it”
visions surged through her mind :
~Atlantis falling into the sea as demons poured through cracks in reality.
~Atlantean mages sacrificing themselves to bind the portal.
~The spirit’s past own past life giving up it’s freedom to guard the key forever.
Emma wept “you were a hero”
The spirit’s eyes dimmed.
“Then prove you are too”
A smaller Crystal of ice broke free from it’s chest revealing the key, glowing with silver light.
Emma took the key gently.
The spirit crumbled, Fragments dissolving into Frost.
“Protect them…even from yourselves,,,”
The cavern shuddered.
The pools of trapped souls released final sighs before going still.
Sarah wiped her eyes “Lets get out of here”
Carlos took Emma’s hand teleporting them back to the tunnel’s entrance.
Ethan looked back once, his shield flickering.
“Rest well old friend”
Outside the labyrinth, Dawn was breaking over the ruins of Atlantis.
Emma turned the key over in her hand “Three down.
We are a step closer to unlocking Atlantis”
Sarah shivered “But at what cost?” Carlos put a hand on her shoulder.
“we will pay whatever it takes”, Ethan nodded grimly “let’s gets going something tells me we still have a long way to go”
The wind howled over the frozen Cliffs, somewhere behind them, the labyrinth sighed emptied at the last of it’s final prisoner.
