That woman is actually pregnant? Didn’t Tiantian say they were going to get a divorce?

So how could she still be pregnant?

Instinctively, she looked at Lu Tiantian.Full novel: Divorce Night in the 80s I’m Pregnant with the Commander’s Child — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Lu Tiantian helplessly nodded at her.

In the hospital room, Mrs. Lu and Grandma Lu were still fussing over Xu Zhixia, asking about her well-being.

The entire room seemed to focus on Xu Zhixia, and an inexplicable, uncontrollable anger welled up inside her.

Lu Tiantian lowered her eyes, quickly reminded everyone about the correct dosage of the medicine, and hurried out.

As soon as she left, Mrs. Lu frowned:

“Luckily Xia Xia is here today, otherwise, what would we do if the hospital made such a blunder? Dad, aren’t you going to hold the hospital accountable?”

Since the mistake was discovered, the doctor had only muttered a simple apology.

She really didn’t understand since when did her father-in-law have such a good temper?

He just let it slide so lightly.

If it were her, she would have called all the hospital leaders and dealt with it seriously.

Old Master Lu sighed:

“He’s old too; his hair turned white back when he went to the countryside. After all, he was an old friend.”

Xu Zhixia was surprised:

“Grandfather, he’s still your friend?”

“Yes, an old comrade. Grandfather feels this was all meant to be. He knew you’d come to see him for treatment.”

She nodded thoughtfully. Friends shouldn’t be more careful when treating patients?

What if he did it on purpose?

He’s a doctor he must know how much this would affect an elderly person with pre-existing conditions.

Yet he only gave a light, fleeting apology.

A few more casual words were exchanged.

Lu Xiuyuan sat in his chair, expression unreadable, lost in thought.

Mrs. Lu tugged at him sharply:

“Xiaoyuan, didn’t you hear? Go buy something for Xiaxia. She’s four months along, and her belly is still so small. That won’t do.”

Lu Xiuyuan’s gaze sharpened; he had indeed returned once four months ago.

Xu Zhixia’s story sounded convincing. Seeing how concerned the family was for her, he worried she might slip up.

He directly grabbed her hand and said to Mrs. Lu:

“Mom, Xiaxia and I will head back first. She’s been out too long today and needs to rest.”

Xu Zhixia was pulled along and had no choice but to say goodbye to the others:

“We’ll leave first. I’ll prepare grandfather’s medicated plaster and send it over.”

Old Master Lu waved his hand:

“Go lie down and rest more. Don’t overwork yourself.”

Xu Zhixia was led out by Lu Xiuyuan. When they reached the car, she pulled her hand back:

“What are you doing? You’ve hurt my wrist.”

Lu Xiuyuan looked down at her wrist and saw a red mark from his grip, though he hadn’t used much force.

“Sorry, but what you just said wasn’t part of our plan.”

Xu Zhixia thought he meant the thing about following the army and replied:

“I only just thought of it, no need to thank me.”

She got into the car without noticing Lu Xiuyuan’s slightly widened eyes in shock. Pregnancy how could someone even think of that in advance?

He had a faint hope in his heart, but it turned out he had been overthinking. His heart sank further.

Normally, when they were intimate, she always cried and fussed. If she really was pregnant…

She would probably feel disgusted by carrying his child.

Thinking of that, his expression darkened.

Xu Zhixia usually liked to sleep as soon as she got in the car. After a busy morning, she closed her eyes immediately.

The car’s bumps soon lulled her into a deep sleep.

Lu Xiuyuan drove back to their marital home and saw Xu Zhixia sleeping peacefully.

It seemed heaven favored her despite her often slathering her face with all sorts of messy things, her skin remained undamaged.

She still looked soft and delicate, easy to tease.

Sunlight streamed through the window onto her face, highlighting the fine down on her skin.

She looked even cuter while asleep.

Her rosy lips couldn’t speak any hurtful words.

His heart warmed; truly, time could stay frozen at this moment.

They were still husband and wife.

He was indeed greedy for this fleeting peace.

She leaned against the seatbelt, her face leaving a mark. Lu Xiuyuan couldn’t help but hold his hand up between them as a cushion.

But before he could, Xu Zhixia woke up.

He quickly withdrew.

Xu Zhixia yawned and stretched:

“Are we here? Why didn’t you call me?”

Lu Xiuyuan replied calmly:

“Just arrived.”

She glanced at her watch almost noon and realized they hadn’t had lunch.

Her voice was soft and pleading:

“Brother, do me a favor”

Even a simple request came out in a melodious, twisting tone.

Lu Xiuyuan couldn’t help but glance at her:

“Speak properly. Don’t call me brother.”

Every time she called him that, he remembered how she called out like that when they were tangled in bed.

Xu Zhixia pouted:

“Fine, then you have to promise me.”

“You say it.”

“Take me and Mom to the department store this afternoon.”

Her eyes sparkled, round and bright, staring at him in a way he couldn’t refuse.

Her small face was impossibly beautiful, especially those eyes when she acted coy, they had a different kind of charm.

He remembered how shyly she had looked at others with the same eyes.

It made him feel uncomfortable.

Seeing his silence, Xu Zhixia thought he disagreed and huffed, about to get out:

“If you don’t want to, I’ll find someone else.”

Lu Xiuyuan saw her hand reaching for the door without hesitation and grabbed her hand.

His voice was a little hoarse:

“You won’t agree, so you’d go to someone else?”

Xu Zhixia caught the sarcasm in his tone and frowned:

“Yes, I just want you to drive me and Mom to the department store and maybe have lunch while we’re at it.”

She was carrying his child in her belly, yet he seemed to care so little.

Her acting cute, and he resisted at every turn.

He didn’t care at all about her or the baby?

She felt a complicated, unexplainable grievance.

If the bus weren’t so broken right now, she wouldn’t be asking him at all.

Hmph, men are all bad.

The more she thought about it, the more aggrieved she felt. Her eyes stung and leaked tears, the corners turning red.

Big tears fell directly onto Lu Xiuyuan’s arm.

He was startled by her sudden crying. He wasn’t afraid of arguments, but he hated seeing her cry.

All the previous annoyance vanished, replaced by worry and tenderness.

He loosened his grip and softened his tone slightly:

“Don’t cry. I promise, we’ll go now. I thought…”

Xu Zhixia’s tears continued falling, but she looked at him:

“Thought what? That I’d go find some other man?”
