“…an engagement?”
“Ah, that’s great news!”
I spent my time at the convent diligently and was able to leave after five years as stipulated. The convent is funded by government taxes, so those who have already no use for the convent are given permission to leave without question. Of course, it’s not just the government tax, but most of the support actually comes from the noble families.
It had been two years since I left the convent. I was now twelve years old. A proposal came to our house for me to get engaged to the second prince of the kingdom, his royal highness prince Cody.
The first prince of the kingdom, his Royal Highness Prince Christian, was now sixteen. He is engaged to her Royal Highness, Princess Alma, the first princess of the allied Trojan Empire.
The prince was a very frail person, and even though he’s the first prince and was already 16 years old, he has yet to become the crown prince. Because of this, three factions have formed in the county. The first prince faction, the second prince faction, and the neutral faction.
His Highness prince Christian has the backing of the Trojan Empire. In order to maintain balance, the royal family thought that it would be appropriate for the second prince to get engaged to me, who has the bloodline of the royals from the kingdom of Estoria and is also the eldest daughter of one of the four great dukes. This story is hosted at novelping dot com.
Father looked very delighted, as if he had already visualized the feeling of being related to the royal family, and felt lucky for the chance of having his daughter become the queen. Andrea, who was standing next to him, looked very uncomfortable.
She probably is, since I was chosen and not her daughter. But it can’t be helped. Betty’s bloodline isn’t purely noble, and her mother is a former prostitute. My father may not have any doubt, but that doesn’t mean that she’s really his child just because they have the same brown hair and blue eyes. Those are all very common traits.
“I’m against this. Her personality is so warped that she was sent to a convent. There’s no way she could become a proper bride of a royal family member. Her personality is still so terrible, she despises her sister for having a commoner’s blood.”
Andrea pouted in frustration and spoke in a cutesy voice as if asking for something. Father hugged her waist and kissed her forehead in response.
Well, it’s good to see you’re treating each other well but can you please do that somewhere else. It’s kinda… disgusting.
“It can’t be helped. Even the influence of being one of the four great dukes cannot rebuke such a request from the royal family. It’s not something that can be ignored easily. Besides, Dahlia was presumed to have undergone medical treatment when she went to the convent, so there’s no way that information would leak out. It’s not uncommon for a young lady to have acquaintances outside before she even has her social debut. They won’t find out that she wasn’t staying then in the mansion. That shouldn’t be a problem.”
“She has stayed in the convent for five years, but she still hasn’t improved. In fact, my little Betty is still being bullied by Dahlia.”
Well, that can’t be helped. The ones who really needed to go to the convent didn’t go. One can hide away one’s bad personality, but that won’t make it completely go away.
“Dahlia can still learn to become sensible once she becomes engaged to a royal family member. Dahlia is only twelve years old, but look forward to it. She will become a fiancée of a royal family member. So don’t just act thoughtlessly.”
“I understand…”
