The Shopper from the Darkness part II

Part 3

As the carriage moved further away from the town, Sandro initiated another conversation with Zal.Full novel: Doombringer the 5th — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“We may need days to reach our destination…

Let’s talk about you in the meantime…”

“About me?”

“Yes…

Mainly about the class you’re interested in and want to pursue…

I can guide you properly if you tell me which class you’re committed to…

We need to train you to a certain level before moving on with the plan…”

Hearing this, Zal’s eyes sparkled anew, and he stated his aspiration with excitement:

“I want to be the strongest summoner!

Tell me!

how can I become a top-tier summoner!?”

“Hmm…

First, you might need to…

start with another class…”

“What!?

Are you trying to pick a fight!?”

His excitement turned into frustration due to the seemingly sarcastic remark, but Sandro continued calmly:

“Not like that…

but a summoner is a class with many weaknesses…

It’s not suitable to be your main class…”

“Ugh…

Why does everyone say that?

It’s like they have no dreams at all.

Everything has a beginning, right?

I know creating powerful minions is difficult, but it’s not impossible, is it?”

“What good is having an invincible minion if…

the summoner is still just a regular person…

In battles against summoners, they aim to take out the summoner first…

If the summoner is captured, the minions just vanish…

So, even if you can summon divine creatures, but can’t survive in battle, it’s useless…”

“Ugh…”

“Moreover, creating a truly powerful minion isn’t easy…

It requires a summoning circle far more complex than single-use spells…

It’s something that takes years of accumulated knowledge and technique to achieve…”

“But…”

“And even if you manage it, the summoned being might consume so much magical power that you couldn’t sustain it…

Especially for someone young like you, even spending all your magical power, you might only summon level two or three creatures…

So it might be better not to waste your time…”

Zal struggled to find words to counter because everything Sandro said was technically correct.

Yet, a summoner was the class he loved, and reviving its reputation was one of his dreams.

Being belittled to the point of being told it was useless made Zal feel even more determined.

“It’s not like I’m trying to become a god-level summoner overnight!

Just starting from today!

Even if it’s a class full of obstacles, if I persist every day, I’m sure to succeed!

How can I even think of overthrowing the Peace Keepers and taking over the world if I can’t handle this!?”

Sandro looked slightly surprised to see him burst out, sitting quietly and staring at him for a while.

Zal also stared back with unwavering determination, his eyes now showing firm resolve rather than just anger.

“I understand… Follow the newest chapters on g.com.

If you are that determined…

I’ll support you as much as I can…”

Sandro’s response was beyond Zal’s expectations, making him shout out in joy.

“Really!?

Yay!”

“…

But I mean it that you should start with another class…

A summoner still needs to be able to survive combat…

So, you need to train in another class alongside…

It might be tough, but it’s the best way…”

“Hmm…

What class should it be then?

I’ve never really thought about studying another class…

By the way, what’s your secondary class, Sandro?”

“My secondary classes are actually several…

but the ones I’ve mastered are Lancer and Wizard…”

Lancer was a class of warriors who used long weapons like spears or lances, and Wizard was a high-level magic user class evolved from Mage.

Both Lancer and Wizard were considered third-tier classes.

“Wow, besides being a fourth-tier Lich, you also have two third-tier classes!

How old are you exactly?”

“Even though I mastered these two classes…

if you’re interested in other classes, I can still teach those too…

especially mage classes…”

Zal deliberately ignored the question, which made Sal wanted to annoy her.

So, he tried to guess a random number,

“One hundred years?”

“I can also teach you some warrior skills up to a certain level…”

“Three hundred years?

(As old as the world, huh?)”

Suddenly, Sandro reverted to her Lich form, and a dense fog filled the carriage, obscuring the windows and darkening the interior.

She then abruptly stood up and stared down Zal with a skull face at close range, startling Zal who tried to escape the frightening image.

“Alright, alright, I won’t ask anymore!

I’m sorry~ Please turn back into a human!”

Sandro looked at him with green flaming eyes at close range for a while longer before moving back to her seat.

The fog then contracted to cover her body and vanished, leaving Sandro in her usual female form sitting there.

“Pant…

Pant…

I mean…

maybe being a mage would suit me better…”

“Um…

I think so too…

Various auxiliary skills of mages also support being a summoner…”

After finishing her sentence, Sandro opened a dimensional space to search for something.

She switched between dimensions, pulling out items one by one.

Once she had what she needed, Sandro closed the dimension, and on her lap were two books and a wrist strap.

“This is a book about basic mage training…

This wrist strap is used to monitor remaining magical power…

Train until the magic power is depleted, then I’ll let you read the other book…”

“Oh, a wrist strap like the ones they used to give us…

at the academy…”

As he mentioned the academy, Zal’s speech momentarily faltered, and even his expression changed, which Sandro noticed but continued the conversation.

“Yes…

it’s similar in use…

If we reach our destination, I’ll have better items for you…

but for now, use this one…”

“And the other book?”

“This volume is a basic guide to designing magical circles used in the study of dark arts…

Once you’ve exhausted your magical power practicing with that book, I’ll teach you this one…”

“Really!?

Let’s get to it then!”

Zal eagerly practiced the basics of magic as he was keen to learn about designing magical circles he had long dreamed about.

Within just over an hour, he had used up all his magical power.

The two took a dinner break in the carriage, eating beef over rice and fried pork over rice from boxed meals Sandro had bought earlier that the day.

Zal was surprised that Sandro ate as well, and she ate heartily at that.

The boxed meals Sandro had purchased were all jumbo-sized.

Zal could only eat half of his before feeling full, but Sandro managed to devour three boxes on her own, even adding some separately bought fried pork.

Sandro did not eat sloppily or hurriedly, but she finished all three boxes quickly as if it was nothing.

After dinner, Zal immediately continued reading the second book, understanding the principles of magical circle design much better with Sandro’s guidance.

Soon, the sun set, and darkness covered the surroundings, but the carriage continued on its way.

Zal practiced his magic to exhaust his magical power before bed, as advised by Sandro.

Then, he lay down to sleep on the carriage seat adjusted to form a bed, while Sandro, without expanding her seat into a bed, leaned against the carriage seat to rest as well.

Part 4

That night, as she was not yet soundly asleep, Sandro heard faint sobbing and opened her eyes.

Looking across, she saw Zal, who was asleep with tears streaming from his tightly closed eyes, dampening the carriage seat.

His face appeared tormented.

Sandro got up and sat by Zal’s side, lifting his head to rest on her lap.

She tried to soothe him with her hand on his forehead, but instead, Zal shivered from the cold.

This was because Sandro’s body was too cold; both her legs and hands were merely forms without real blood circulation, contributing to her low body temperature.

Sandro closed her eyes to gather magical power for a while, causing her body to emit a faint glow.

When the light faded, Sandro’s skin, previously pale, turned to a warm pink flush as if blood tinged it.

She touched her cheeks with both hands to make sure the temperature was right and then stroked Zal’s forehead again, which relaxed his expression.

Sandro watched the boy resting in her lap with an expression that revealed no emotions, making it hard to guess what she was thinking.

Soon, she leaned back and closed her eyes, while the carriage continued to travel through the darkness.
