“Fugui, look! A huge fat dog!”

Goudan looked at the Beagle crying on the ground, overjoyed.

Lying on the ground, Bai Jimu, whose leg had seemingly been hit, was still dutifully faking his sobs.

But when he heard “huge fat dog,” he almost broke character.

You’re the fat dog! Your whole family is fat dogs!

Bro clearly said I’m just fluffy!

However, what happened next was exactly as Bai Jimu expected.

The man called Fugui heard his companion and immediately got out of the car.

With an evil grin, he tossed Bai Jimu into a large cage in the back of the van.

“Awoooo?”

Bai Jimu struggled cooperatively a few times.

Fugui seemed to recall how the dog had run circles around them last time, so he turned around and grabbed a syringe from the car.

“This fat dog is tricky. Better give him a shot to be safe.”

Bai Jimu instantly went silent and shrank back into the corner.

“Hey, look, he’s behaving now.” Goudan stopped Fugui. “Anesthesia is hard to come by these days. Save it while we can.”

Bai Jimu let out a fearful whimper and curled himself into a ball.

Fugui thought that made sense. He closed the cage and locked it swiftly.

As the van door slammed shut, the interior plunged into darkness.

Bai Jimu huffed through his nose and began observing his surroundings.

There were nearly ten cages of various sizes in the van, including one containing a member of the stray dog gang that used to chase and bite him.

Looks like these guys have caught quite a few lately.

Bai Jimu scratched the floor anxiously. Although he hated this environment, he could endure it to save his own kind.

“Boohoo, Mommy, I want Mommy.”

“Damn humans, actually playing dirty!”

“Hungry, food…”

Scattered voices from inside the van drifted into Bai Jimu’s ears.

It was clear that a large portion of the dogs here were pets with owners.

The bumping of the car smoothed out, and Bai Jimu guessed they had arrived at the warehouse.

Sure enough, not long after, the van doors opened again.

There were more than just the two men here.

Watching four men busy themselves moving all the cages out, Bai Jimu was glad he hadn’t just barged in earlier.

I knew there’d be people guarding the warehouse; they were just inside.

I need to think of a way. I wonder if Bro is worried since I haven’t gone back yet.

Bai Jimu lay on the ground looking listless, which made the dog traffickers lower their guard.

“This batch is about done.” The dark-skinned Goudan leaned against the wall, taking out a cigarette and lighting it. “We should be able to ship them out tomorrow.”

Fugui rubbed his chin, looking at the cages piled up in the warehouse. “Yeah, about right. Any more and they’ll be hard to get rid of. Did you find buyers?”

“Of course. The big dogs go to the dog meat restaurant, and the small ones go to pet shops out of town. Prices are all settled.”

The two men made no attempt to hide their conversation, and Bai Jimu heard every word, his teeth itching with rage.

Animals!

How can they take these lives so brazenly!

Both stray dogs and pet dogs had the right to live.

What right did they have to casually strip that away?

Pet dogs carried the love and effort of their owners, akin to family members.

He couldn’t imagine how heartbroken those owners would be if they couldn’t find their dogs.

Stray dogs tried their best just to survive. As long as they didn’t bite people or do anything bad, why should they be sent to the butcher’s knife so casually?

As a dog himself, Bai Jimu trembled with anger at the thought.

Even a Beagle, naturally friendly to humans, detested these beasts.

I must save everyone!

As time passed, the dog traffickers left the storage area to rest, and it was time for Bai Jimu to act.

“Little Bi? Where are you? Why aren’t you back yet?”

It was closing time at the shop.

Bai Yanzhou had waited and waited, but seeing no sign of Bai Jimu, he sent a telepathic message with some concern.

Hearing Bai Yanzhou’s voice in his head, Bai Jimu immediately replied, “Bro, I found the hideout of those dog traffickers. Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon!”

“What!” Bai Yanzhou was startled and stood up immediately. “Is it dangerous? Are there many people?”

Bai Yanzhou had taught Bai Jimu basic spells, but since they were in the human world, using magic blatantly would not only cause unnecessary panic but also attract the attention of the Supervision Bureau.

So Bai Yanzhou had repeatedly warned Bai Jimu not to use destructive spells unless absolutely necessary.

Even he himself only used magic occasionally for assistance.

Now that Bai Jimu had run off to the dog traffickers’ lair alone… logically, he shouldn’t be worried.

After all, the guy ran faster than a rabbit in his true form.

But rescuing all the dogs from the traffickers might be difficult and could risk exposing his identity.

However, on second thought, he was his brother.

Dealing with a few dog traffickers should be… no problem, right?

Just a matter of casting a few sleeping spells.

Thinking of the spell he had taught him recently, Bai Yanzhou sat back down calmly.

“Don’t worry, Bro. Don’t underestimate me.”

Bai Jimu’s voice was confident, which reassured Bai Yanzhou a lot.

Indeed, it’s time to let Little Bi gain some experience.

“Alright. Don’t forget what I taught you, but don’t make too big of a scene, understand?”

Bai Yanzhou gave a few more instructions before cutting off the connection.

After thinking for a moment, he still felt a bit uneasy, so he took out his phone and tapped a few times.

After doing all this, Bai Yanzhou yawned.

With a flick of his finger, the main door closed gently.

He scooped up Coal Ball, who was sleeping soundly nearby, and shuffled upstairs.

“Come on, Coal Ball, let’s go sleep with Daddy.”

On the other side, once Bai Jimu was sure the group had left, he skillfully extended his paw and fiddled with the lock.

With a click, the door opened.

A mere cage thinks it can hold me?

Time was limited.

Bai Jimu immediately transformed back into human form.

However, his transformation ability was slightly inferior to Bai Yanzhou’s.

When Bai Jimu transformed, he couldn’t conjure clothes, only a pair of boxers.

Under the dim light, a half-naked man wearing only boxers was sneaking over to the nearby dog cages.

While opening the cages, he whispered to the dogs inside, asking if they had seen a white dog named Nuomi.

Unfortunately, the answer was always no.

It seems she’s not kept here.

After all, these were mostly big dogs, likely destined for the dog meat restaurant.

A Husky with blue eyes in a nearby cage watched Bai Jimu transform into a human and widened its eyes in shock.

“Holy crap, bro, where did you learn that trick? I knew my poop-shoveler was holding out on me.”

Bai Jimu: “…”
